Me and you are going to be neighbors in Malibu at some point. The architecture out there is so unique.

You said the right word that defines these houses and his style…..FUNKY. It reflects from his California upbringing. During that time. 60’s/70’s. His houses are very eclectic. I could see lots of cool 60’s types of parties in these houses. Mama Cass would have liked these houses. 🥹

Those 60s parties were probably a blast. Simpler times...

$700,000 for 100 square feet seems reasonable.

Anyone else notice that "The Sandcastle" is just a few doors down from "The Wave House"? You can see it in the background of One of the Sandcastle's pics.

good video - enjoy these deeper dives into an architect that was once considered wild; who then helps shift/disrupt the industry. not to mention i really dig his interior styling as well. but those price tags, dang… hahaha

I know! Those price tags are wild. But trophy properties for sure

Which house do you prefer… the wave house or the sandcastle?

💚 Number 1 ... The Cole House ( Why would you block a sea view from bed with a massive brick fireplace IN MALIBU )

A little steep? you picked this just to upset me, didn't you? :) I'd pay for the C4 charges. It's a cute idea for a cheap wooden construction but it's not worth 5million or even 1.
According to pictures it looks like it got new foundation at some point but I can't find any mention of it. The new foundation is a pretty strange design. But with enough C4 it doesn't really matter :)
Hopefully no one buys it for even 25. It would take someone as dim as Kanye West to pay that much. Some 'clever' people are trying to pretend that Malibu is a 50-100million$ area when in reality it's more like 3-5.

Ha! Yeah it'll be interesting to see where these ultimately trade. With Gesner's name on them, they'll no doubt get a premium. But I agree... other $50M+ homes in the Malibu area are a tougher sell.

It’s ridiculous how valuable Malibu ocean properties are. The ocean goes right up to your caissons and the homes lie directly on PCH.

    • @Real.Estate.Report

      I agree it’s wild

It's a different world. As a Uber driver back in the day I've been used to transfer art collections, I delivered a bottle of Chateau Margaux from 1787 that was valued at $300,000...... Even had someone call me over to deliver a $ .99 romance novel from the far side of Malibu to Catalina Island. Uber is the go to service to transport the children of divorced celebrities too.

Too bad the architect doesn’t get lifetime licensing fees on when these houses sell again. The price is partly based on the longevity of his designs.

Nice Harry Gesner original architecture houses. I am not a fan of curves in a house and curve roof. I like symmetrical design. Gesner houses are art pieces.

Imagine spending 50 million on a house that strangers will be walking UNDER at high tide.... All beaches in California are accessible to the public with the exception of military bases and water/energy facilities.
Pretty place but I'd pass if I had the option

Both of these homes are probably going to be bought, then torn down, then a Mansion will be built on each property. The property is the big value because of the location and view. People that spend this amount of money to buy a house, want the house to be how they want it.

You lose 10 feet of ocean front beach for every inch rise in seawater...won't be long before that lot is completely underwater! Probably less that 50 years and the owner will be swimming with the fishes!
