On this world of consumerism, it is just refreshing to see that simple and clean kitchen is just as beautiful compared to the fancy kitchen setup all over youtube these days! Thanks for keeping us grounded!
I converted and decanted all my dry goods into my canning jars and other large food jars. Pretty much if it is glass It often becomes a dry good Jar. It does look so much better and the canning jars I use my jar sealer and make them airtight. I save all my jars that have a rubber lining and if one day I have to be a rebel canner and use them I have them. In the meantime, they store dry goods. I am constantly taking a quart of something that is almost gone and moving it into a jelly jar. I get my quart jar back into canning service.
It's fun to come up with dishes when you want to use up what's been in your cupboards. Then to shop for new or regular staples knowing what you need and what you already have. Very inspiring video. ☃️❄☃️❄☃️❄
Hi Suzanne, Your shelves look amazing! A wonderful transformation! In 2019, our sump pump seized and our basement flooded, and that's when I started our decluttering journey. You will be so happy you did this because everything will be easier - shopping, cleaning the house, and managing the items in your home. I smiled when you decanted the spices into spice jars as I have done that too. I'm looking forward to seeing what is next in your home! Have a great week!
Thank you! Wonderful that you have already done this. I have already noticed a huge shift in my shopping habits. I actually know what I need now! And I honestly don’t need as much as I thought did before 😅
Hi Suzanne. Good Job! Isn’t it so satisfying when you can see everything at a glance? I am a mason jar storage girl too. Every spring and fall I reorganize my pantry. It is a really big room off the kitchen that stores all my food and preserves and preservation equipment. My fridge lives in there too, and it’s quite cold because it isn’t insulated. I love it. Your cabinets look great. I love how happy it made you. ❤😊
Thank you!! ❤️ Now that I have done this, I don’t think I will ever go back to the way it was. It was totally worth using my Mason jar stash (I still have more jars!) I would have used every last one to accomplish this goal!
Hi Suzanne, what a great job on your kitchen reorganization! Just a tip... When storing in glass jars, I use a permanent marker on the glass as to the contents and the expiration date on the original packaging. Its much easier to identify the contents for me than writing on the lid. When I need to change it up, the permanent marker comes off fairly easy with a kitchen scrubby!
This is an awesome inspiration to me.. I am much like this.. I have lots of things decanted in to jars, that I needed to have separated. I have plenty of things in several areas! And need to consolidate. Very very inspiring, thank you. I think I will follow you and your channel. I do not can a lot but I don’t have a pressure cooker. I do hot water bath what I can.
Hi Suzanne, congratulations on this huge clean and declutter. We are all so guilty of having messy cupboards. Your process in dealing with this overwhelming volume or stuff was very sound. I like the comments about bugs, also. So true. The jars are beautiful and good luck going forward and thanks for the inspirational video! Hugs, Karla in Cali.
Love it! I save mainly glass jars of all sizes (but quality plastic too) for food storage from peanut butter, condiments, etc. I love being able to see our dry goods and baking supplies too. Much more inspiring when trying to decide what to cook. It's a great way to repurpose packaging that would otherwise be thrown away.
Yes!! 👏🏻 I made a batch of muffins recently, and I couldn’t believe how much easier it was to access the ingredients. Plus, being able to easily fit my measuring spoons into my spice jars is a game changer!!! I will try to save those nicer quality jars. Great idea! Then you can get some of your canning jars back.
Your cupboards look so nice! I've seen some people put the back row of jars on a 2x4 as a riser. I've been storing my food in glass jars for quite a few years now. The glass will keep bugs out, but beware...some food comes with eggs/bugs already. I had an incident of rice being full of bugs. Thankfully the bugs were isolated to that one jar.
Yes, this was a long wait. I put it off for so long. Funny how the longer you put something off, the more you just get used to the way it is. My life has changed since doing this! ❤️
I enjoyed watching your video today. When I do purchase items; salsa, sauces, etc., I try to pick ones with a jar that fits a regular size jar lid, or that has a lid that is sturdy. It has made transferring my spices and herbs more enjoyable, plus I feel I'm saving money and recycling at the same time. 😄
Suzanne, What a wonderful feeling of accomplishment you must have had. Organizing your cupboards is a great way to keep from unnecessary purchases and it gives your life a true sense of order. The canning jars were a great idea and a good way to keep things from bugs and becoming stale. You should be pleased at your task all completed. Well done, Joan
Thank you Joan, it has made an incredible difference in our household. My husband and kids love the jars! They can see everything now, and they all love sprinkling the nuts and raisins on their oatmeal. 😀
Hi Suzanne, decluttering your pantry was a huge job that you accomplished! Your finished result looks great. I am constantly in a process of purging and reorganizing so that things make sense. To better view my spices, I used step like "risers", so that they take up less space, but I could still see each of them. Last year, I made a ruthless purge of my kitchen: discarding all Tupperware, plastic food containers, and any scratched nonstick bakeware. I actually emptied one entire cupboard and have kept it empty.
You are on top of it Leslie! Good for you. I want to keep on top of this. I feel like the jars is a good system, because you are no longer shoving bags in your cupboards. Plus you only buy something when the jar is empty! The risers is a great idea. I might have to go get some!! Thank you ❤️
@@thefarmerswifecanada I totally agree with using glass jars for storage, I need to find a large one for my Cheerios!! If you have any small scraps of wood, they could be used as the risers.
Your cupboards look so clean and neat and well organized! Now my pantry is calling me. I'm going to follow you, and I will try to keep up with you as you conquer and move on. Well done, and thanks!!❤
Hi Roberta, it is the perfect time of year to do this. Pre-gardening, when you actually have the time indoors. That is why I need to make the most of this time of year! It has made an incredible impact in my shopping habits already. I actually know what I need (and what I don’t)!
Great Job! So satisfying to organize according to our own tastes and utility. I wish I could send you a photo of my open shelves above my baking counter....I have been collecting antique canning jars for many years and have used them to store/display my dry goods. It is a scene that gladdens my heart every time I walk into my kitchen. I'm sure you'll have the same reaction the next time you open the doors to your now organized and pretty cupboards. So glad I found your channel!
Wow! I commend you Suzanne for jumping in with both feet. It very inspiring to see you face those darn pantry cupboards, not truly knowing what you might find. I'm heading in tomorrow 😂 I want my space to be fresh and organized.. too. Thank you, Ruthanne 😊
Hi Ruthanne!😀 Yes, it was a monumental task. I decided on tackling the hardest parts first, to get it over with. Once I really got into it, it was actually quite enjoyable. Only once I could see the progress though! Before that, it was quite stressful! 😅
I wouldn't be embarrassed, the fact you had the energy amazes me! I never gave it any thought about how messy the cabinets were......honestly the only thing I noticed was how small your sink was! Which is not a bad thing....just an observation. I would get a different faucet one that has a taller neck and can be used as a sprayer. It's a game changer! I have two small sinks side by side with a separator. I had a faucet like yours and when I switched mine out for a modern pull out faucet it really made doing dishes so much more enjoyable with less water flinging on the counters. The lady I bought my place from changed all the faucets even put a walk in whirlpool tub but did not change the kitchen faucet so I did it.
You are absolutely right about the faucet. That would make a huge difference! I will mention it to my husband. Having only one small kitchen sink has been the biggest annoyance out of anything else, living here. I have a system that works, but having to use a wash tub takes up extra space on the counter. But, I love living here, so it is a minor inconvenience!
We moved into a new home last month and I had to so many shelves of home canned food and other food that I had to go through and get ready to bring to the new home. It was quite an eye-opening experience. You will love having your food in the canning jars and as you said, it is much safer. I haven't watched the whole video yet, but maybe the excess you should just put into a jar as well and not leave in the bags. You could have the current jar you are using and the excess in jars somewhere else. It will stay fresher and safe from the bugs. Okay...now I've seen it. You did a great job!!
Yes, that is a great idea. I have once drawer where I kept all the spare bags of things to re-fill the jars with. I’m sure moving all your canning was a huge task! 😀
Wow what a change! It looks so good and so organized! Fantastic job!! I appreciate you keeping your channel real and showing us you are just like the rest of us 😊
OK this looks absolutely wonderful! I have been working on the same type of project in my house. I like how you kept your overflow products in plastic Ziploc bags rather than in other jars. I think that makes more sense for storage solutions as I also have a very small kitchen. I noticed when I am parceling out food items I will usually be able to fill one large jar and then with the leftovers I put it in a smaller jar which then takes up a lot of additional space in my cupboard. Keep up the good work and I really enjoy your videos.😊
I’m totally going to implement this! You’re awesome for sharing this since I was literally looking for a good solution for all my spices. I like to buy in bulk and what you did is a great solution. Thanks!
Yes, totally do it! You won’t regret it. It has been the best change I’ve ever done in my kitchen. What’s great about this for the spices is that it is so easy to fit your measuring spoons in the jars, rather than fumbling around in the bags. So much better! 😀
I assumed that I could just dump dried beans in mason jars. They must have had drops of water in them because a year later mold and yuck was in them!! Thank you for teaching us how to properly decanter dried food!!!
Well done! I prefer my pantry with jars and containers as well, instead of plastic product bags, and product labels. It is a much more natural and aesthetic, and streamlined look, in my opinion. I have been planning to eventually do a pantry organization/tour video on my channel as well. 😉
On this world of consumerism, it is just refreshing to see that simple and clean kitchen is just as beautiful compared to the fancy kitchen setup all over youtube these days! Thanks for keeping us grounded!
Aww, thank you!! ❤️ What a wonderful comment. I love that I was able to use what I already had for this project. 😀
Yes - it's great to see an actual functioning kitchen!

Thank you, that is so nice of you to say ❤️

Yikes! Thank goodness they were trapped in the jar! Can you imagine if they wandered out to all the other food in the cupboard. 😱
What a great makeover! I have to always go through and reorganize my pantry. It feels so good to refresh!

Hi we have, all been there but you did a lovely job🌻🌻
Thank you! ❤️
I love your kitchen's aesthetic and the mason jars are spot on! I am hoping to use jars in my kitchen at some point soon, too!
Thank you so much! Definitely do it if you can. It is so much more inviting when you open those cupboards up! ❤️

You are so welcome! Another option is a dishwasher that sanitizes and heats up, but I don’t have one! So the oven is a perfect option. 😀
Oxygen absorbers would prevent this as well. 😊
