    I really like the feel of Abus locks when picking... they just feel better machined in general than most other locks.

      I agree. I can't say why, but they feel so pleasant to hold.

    I just purchased this lock because I watched your video. I am just starting in locksport, and had not seen an Abus lock before. You are driving sales as I have almost a hundred locks (picked about twenty so far), and Sparrows should thank you for my expanding kit.
    High quality videos, LockPickingLawyer.

    The biggest flaw on this 80Ti are sadly the missing ball bearings. The first driver is a double serrated and as far as I remember the rest are spools (I once had taken one apart), keypins are all standard. Actually it can be an easy or a hard pick, some are relatively smooth and on some the spools are really catching and pins like to drop, that differs a lot on this series. The big key is really nice, just love that triangle bow, and can have some crazy factory bitting :).

    The large 6 pin Titalium was one of the hardest locks to learn for me, now I enjoy picking them as they are no longer too much effort to open.

      I think that tension tool is just a bit more springy than others..

      He was using a .032 pry bar which bends a lot with normal tension - even more so when dealing with spools and a heavy core spring

    Hey LPL, I want to thank you for getting me into locking. I first found your channel browsing the web, and I became interested when my mom paid 50 dollars for a guy to open our front door for her. (She locked herself out.) I have only started with my only tools being a small paperclip, a 2 dollar clear lock on amazon, and a tenstion wrench a made from windsheild wiper inserts I found in an auto store trashcan. Although my parents tiscouraged me from following this hobbie I have convinced them to let me at least learn a little. I really wanted to thank you for the insperation you have given me to start this hobby. Sincerely, a sophmore in highschool.

      HipsterAmI Right at the very least buy a southord pick set, I think the might be the most affordable, yet the five pick set is very versatile

    I wish their was something like the covert companion but for tension tools. that might be nice to have. What do you think?

    I’ve found that there’s a lot of variation between individual locks with the Abus Titalium. Some can be opened like this one and others can take Picking all the pins. Still pretty fun to have it the bag!

    Nice to see you getting back in the saddle properly LPL :) Nice pick, shame those shims are so pesky to find! Nice worktop/counter top (reminds me of one I got from IKEA a few years ago) works very well as a backdrop to the picking. (looking back, it seems you've brought that worktop with you -it does make a good background nonetheless, just I didn't notice it before :))

    Is there a difference between this lock and the 64/40 other than the shackle length?

    • @frequency_DJ
      @frequency_DJ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 64TI/40 has smaller diameter shackle, and housing. It's the little brother of this lock.

    Would this lock be susceptible to a Core pulling attack?

  • @Alguien644
    @Alguien644 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This actually took longer than average

  • @tonhultermans652
    @tonhultermans652 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've got a disappointing 64TI50 here, where the first 2 pins don't even come in to play. It basically is a 3 pin lock...

    • @Anjou1234
      @Anjou1234 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually find the 64TI harder to SPP than the 80TI. They are easy to rake but gives me no feedback on SPP.

    • @redcatimaging
      @redcatimaging 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try a bit harder tension on the 64s :), they like that. And somehow they are easy to overset. But once you find the right tension, they are not that hard :). You get some destinct clicks and once you learn how that feels, they will be no problem for you anymore 👍.

    I have this lock on my truck tool box. While I love the lock and it has stood up well against all weather conditions, I would not use it on something expensive at home. I am usually not far from my work truck so I would see if someone was messing with it and if a thief really wanted it the could probably just remove the whole box easier. Doesn't make sense for me to have a lock that is worth more than the items it is protecting.

  • @chucknaround5271
    @chucknaround5271 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why when I get a False set The pins bind instantly I almost broke to picks trying to get them to set? I get a good false set by raking first then S.P.P. after but no movement at all? What am I doing wrong?

    • @Ghorda9
      @Ghorda9 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      learn how to deal with spool pins, you need to lighten up tension so the spools "unbind" and then put tension back on to lock it into place.

  • @ButterBallTheOpossum
    @ButterBallTheOpossum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What does false set, binding and counter rotation mean?

    • @Morbuzka
      @Morbuzka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      as far as i know, binding means the pin is resisting being pushed by the pick, which means its the next pin to be picked because it'll stay once it hits the right spot.
      false set is when the core turns slightly because its caught on the slots in the spool pins.
      counter rotation is what you get when you pick a spool pin while in the false set. as it moves closer and closer to the right position, it'll push the core slightly out of that false set back to the neutral position.

    Can you please explain "false sets" and "counter rotation?"
    I've tried looking around but can't find a solid explanation.
    Many thanks.

    • @davidtucker3026
      @davidtucker3026 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To add to this, counter rotation is a challenge to deal with, if you don't apply appropriate tension during the counter rotation and not fast enough, it will reset the pins.

    • @Alex-xg2od
      @Alex-xg2od 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      False set is when a security pin is picked and fell in it's false position to trick you that its picked if i'm not wrong. It clicks and turns the core, but is not set yet. Needs to be picked more. False set is happening before you have to deal with counter rotation as the guy above explained. This happens on for example Spool pins

    • @ro11erbeast
      @ro11erbeast 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, a false set would be when the small diameter portion of a spool pin is at the shear line, and counter rotation is when you vary the tension slightly while pushing on that pin to get the larger bottom of that spool pin past the shear line? Thanks for helping us noobs.

    FOR GOD'S SAKE DONT THINK ALL TITALIUM ARE THE SAME. DON'T BUY ANY WITHOUT A 3010 OR 888 CORE. I GOT ONE AND IT HAS NO BALL-BEARING THEY CAN BE SHIMNED AND PICKED AND RAKED. I WOULD NOT USE IT FOR ANYTHING. ERA AND ABLOY ARE MY FAVOURITE LOCKS

  • @Dreancaidi
    @Dreancaidi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Those Abus locks are absolute crap. I bought a brand new abus titanium pad lock and locked my log splitter with it. Now I need to use the splitter and the lock wont open. It took me hours to open it. The aluminium had corroded. Junk.

    Crap lock. I picked several of these with a cheap James Bond style credit card lock picks set.
