  • Halfway through the week and we have a new “Five Minutes Histories" episode for you on Baltimore’s painted screens.
    This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Each day, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and website. We are honoring Governor Hogan’s request and are doing this from home.

    The painted screen exhibit was the most memorable part of Baltimore’s Visionary Art Museum, and I’m frequently telling folks about it. Thanks for making this video!

    Dee Hargert painted my screens in edgewater, md for my house. A young couple was walking down the street and pointed to my screens and said you must be from Baltimore. I said yes. A small world 😊

    I remember so well walking to his store with my grand Mother ..she had a painted screen where she would sit after her long house work days she also had marble steps that I scrubbed with Octagon bar Soap and a scrub brush. Oktavec once he had his art store established all those making their first Communion would go to his lovely store set up with fern, pedestal and lovely picture had our picture in our communion clothes still have mine : ))

    maybe talk to dr bob hieronimous about all the murals he did around baltimore. and john ellsberry did those alligators on 28th street, i know both so you may im me on fb.
