I rarely agree 100% with someone. I have spent hours telling students what to avoid, and the interesting thing is that some of them "think they are smarter" and, because of their "naive nature" ignore the suggestions and pick advisors who made their lives miserable. Your PhD Advisor (not always a mentor) really shapes your future. As Andrew says, the advisor is THE PERSON!

While I may have made the wrong choice for a PhD advisor, this is helpful for a potential postdoc.....

Yes, many aspects are similar. I will make a separate video about postdoc positions.

Many thanks for the well-recorded presentation. I believe it is tricky to gauge the character of the PhD supervisor upfront. This is mainly because you have never sat under their tutelage, and the main source of information to you may only be what they have said about themselves online.

It is tricky, indeed! This is why it's so important to talk to the current group members and alumni!

A toxic professor can act as an axe, cutting down your motivation and professional growth. On top of that, dealing with such a professor can cause immense stress, making you feel like you constantly have to sacrifice your well-being just to gain their attention.

This is true. Toxic advisors should be avoided at all cost.

Hey, it is a wonderful video. I have one comment on it. I would really appreciate if you may do the check list out of this video. It will not only make some people's life better but also will give an additional value to what you already have done.
