    I designed a small weather station powered by two low-power solar panels. The device transmits(I2C) the data(Temperature, humidity, pressure, and air quality) collected by the BME680 sensor to the ESP32 microcontroller, which then publishes the data to ThingSpeak via WiFi.
    OP/Duty cycle: IDLE+WiFi(~1.7sec) - DeepSleep(10min).
    This project is a prototype that definitely needs to be improved, but it has been useful for testing solar panels.

    I absolutly love energy harvesting, and the system you did is incredible. Keep up the good work!

    I would love to see a video where you look at the solar power input vs the power it takes to run the microcontroller with different events (taking data measurements, sending the data, ...) with that you could select a battery size.
    example: size the battery such that if you get 4 days of rain (no solar), then the battery had enough power stored to still run the data samples at a freq of 1 measurement per 10 mins. on the fifth day, sun comes out and can run the system while fully charging the battery.

      I did similar tests but I did not show them in this video, but for sure in the next video I will show in detail the power consumption of the board and the power delivered by the solar panels👍

    I saw a lot of these projects on Instagram, but I always made it special... My question.. What camera do you shoot with? Is it a phone camera or a regular camera?

    I have an idea for. Another project :)
    As its possible to power up to 100W using poe - you could build ans poe esp32 and use the provided power to create Smarthome (rgb) ceiling lights that also include presence detection using Bluetooth or mm wave sensors :)

    Awesome project! Using NRF microcontroller should definetly be interesting. I'm curious in how the development process would be. Keep up the good work!

      The next step is to develop the new prototype using an nRF52840 or similar. Definitely I need to improve all the power circuits(LDO, Battery manager...) as well.

      @@SalvatoreRaccardi O wow, looking at the datasheet, it has some really unique features build-in, especially NFC and Bluetooth 5.3. If it all works well, it might be something for OBJEX Link aswell (smart watch application maybe..?)

    The enclosure cast shadow on the solar panel, maybe a thinner wall otherwise good job

    • @SalvatoreRaccardi
      @SalvatoreRaccardi  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to make it thicker to fit M2 inserts. I have to redesign the enclosure, I thank you for the advice👍

    Many thanks for the video, I have also built my own custom board with esp32-s2, can you please tell me if the bare chips need a bootloader flashed on them before I can upload to them using the UART bridge? My chips are not entering the boot mode even though every thing is designed correctly.

    • @SalvatoreRaccardi
      @SalvatoreRaccardi  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No bootloader needed. If you are programming the board with a serial bridge try tapping the DTR pin low.

    Hi, great project! I'm also working on a ultra low power project with solar harvesting. Would you have the reference of the solar panels or a ling to where you bought them?

      In this first prototype I used a "normal" battery manager and an LDO, in the next video that I will upload soon I will compare two ICs for solar energy harvesting

  • @gripperrod
    @gripperrod 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi, the solar panel seems very small for energy harvesting? I’ve measure a 10cm by 5cm panel that was supposed to deliver 1W and I got a max of about about 0.3w in full sun in uk. Your panel looks like it’s about 1/4 the size so would it only deliver about .1W which is roughly 16ma?

    • @SalvatoreRaccardi
      @SalvatoreRaccardi  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You also have to consider the type of solar panel. I used monocrystalline, you?

    • @gripperrod
      @gripperrod 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SalvatoreRaccardi Polycrystalline, which will be less efficient.
