- Alice in Wonderland at Blackpool Pleasure Beach POV.
Built by Arrow in 1961 under license from Walt Disney, the Alice in Wonderland ride is a classic family favourite at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Riding a grinning cheshire cat, this slow dark-ride brings to life a variety of tableaux depicting the classic novel.

'Cuckoo Waltz' by Will Glahé, (as played outside the ride)
'I've Got A Golden Ticket' by by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley from OST 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, (as played inside the ride),
'Reg' by Paddy Kingsland from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, (as formerly played outside the ride!).
I cried big time, when I saw this. My mum and Dad have gone, they are up there in a lovely place, with no harm no hurt and more importantly, they are together. This great ride, my dad took me on. I was a mere 6 years old, and I loved it!
I am now coming up to my 58 birthday next week. Just to say thank you. Happy Memories for me. And yes, I shed a few tears as well, big time!!!

It is the greatest ride of all time!!! Blackpool, wouldn't be Blackpool, without it!! Oh I'm from Stourport in Worcestershire and from 6 years to 58 years, but remember it, and loads of fond memories, and now with loads and loads of tears! I think you know why!! Thank you for those lovely birthday wishes it was wonderful, but again with a few tears, oh and few too many drinks! Milk? No, it was beer!!
I feel you, I’m fortunate to still have my mum & Dad still with me, I was about 8 when my mum took me on this, I’m now 51 just seeing this, brings back so many happy memories for me.
I can't believe this is still operating. I went on it as a six year old (44 years ago) fully intend to take my (reluctant) 17yo on it next week. Thanks for posting.
My pleasure! Yeah... having done away with the Gold MIne, I'm just hopefully that they will leave Alice, AND the Ghost Train as they are!
ghost train will stay, it is populer an it's the worlds first to use the term ghosttrain. alice NEEDS remodeling. new animatronics ans more refferances to the original book to break away from the disney and fear of a lawsuit. I would like to see some projections too.
www.ukrides.info agreed the ghost train and Alice are absolutely fine as they are they just need to keep on top of maintaining the theming/effects on both the inside and the outside, The most I would do is update a couple of scenes in the ghost train with the rocks fall on the Wee the corridor you go through and maybe some slight adjustments to the scene where the big gargoyle is in but other than that it's fine the way it is.
I’m actually crying watching this video. This ride is by far my favourite ride at the Pleasure Beach, everything about it is so magical and wonderful and this video perfectly captures it. The music is just...urgh!!!!!!!

I remember this ride when we used to go to Blackpool in the 80s, does anybody remember the awesome smell that came from the popcorn guy across from this ride? omg it was the best smell ever !
Anyone who's been on this ride can smell this video. It smells old and musty, but in a very pleasant, welcoming way.
In recent years Jess, they've used smell pots, it smells a bit like fizzy sweets in there!

Won, that smell was the sparks from the track and rust, if they weren't there the ride wouldn't be the same.
As an 11 year old girl this was one of the best things I have experienced in my entire life.

As a 1 or 2 year old this ride traumatised me I was so scared of it and I just have memories of it like humpty dumpty falling of the wall and the cats what you ride in and the track that goes up in the air.
That ride has changed such a lot since I last rode it.

+davidjellis Its a shame we don't yet have the technology so include smells, I love the sweet scent pots they use in Alice. :-)
The music playing at the end is a track called “Reg” and it was the B Side of the 1970s issue of the Doctor Who theme music as a single.

Why hasn't blackpool been sued for ripping off the Alice in wonderland dark ride at Disneyland and using I got a golden ticket for Willy wonka?
A good question often asked Veloci! The owners of Blackpool were good friends with Walt Disney, he visited them often seeking inspiration for Disneyland. So the Alice ride at Blackpool was built on licence, permission and with support from Disney who assisted with the theming.
The Alice rides were built by Arrow, who acted as Disney's go-to ride manufacturer. Blackpool also had a good relationship with Arrow who went on to built the Steeplechase, Revolution, and Big One.
Why is the music from the original Charlie & the Chocolate factory film used on this ride!??

While my older cousin went on this ride, me and his younger sister went on The Big Dipper instead.. I was about 14 and she was about 12. He was about 15 - big girl's blouse.. lol

Used to gon this ride every year from 1998 (4years old) till 15(2009) planning to go on this again end of the year, me and my fam went up about 3 weeks ago just did not have the money for pleasure beach but hoping to bring the nostagia back sometime in the future :)

Love the Last song Reg, was used on the ride in the 70's if iI remember correctly. It was on the B side of the Dr Who theme record that was in use when Tom baker was doctor.

Actually, its the other way around! Blackpool bought the rights from Disney, this is the Blackpool version of the Disneyland ride! :-)

Yep... never found out why, but for some reason this is the music Blackpool have been playing inside the ride for as long as I've known it... (and I'm old!) LOL But its pretty much exactly as you hear it looped here.
