This is pretty much how (not-professionally-trained) Finnish English sounds to people tbh. Legendary "Rally English" is in our blood.
It's our version of "How you know someone is American? Don't worry, they'll tell you." As soon as we start talking, we oust ourselves as finnish! Thers nou es-caip!
@@jijji2602 It might sound like that but is legit. We don't have much irl situations where to talk in English as much as reading it or if we can be active, writing it daily. It's teached through many years of school but that can go to waste with learning difficulties and lack of usage.
I used to be ashamed of this sort of English until I saw some foreigners in Finland do the same thing. I loved their vibes and their ability to get the point across despite being all wrong grammatically. Lots of Finns also think that the typical Finnish accent is embarrassing, but I’ve met a lot of foreigners who think it sounds sexy as hell haha. (I don’t have it so they weren’t even being nice to me.)
@@JesterPrince And that's the thing: We usually learn just the theory, not the practical, part of it.
And without practice, we can't get comfortable with our accent that usually melts away the roughest parts of it as we pick on the surrounding, local, way of speech.

@@miafyra5149 well Käärijä tries hard to promote Suomi in this video. I can imagine what the climate in Finland is like, I grew up in Russia. Was wondering how similar Russian and Finnish sauna traditions are.😄
@@lba6859 As a person who spent a good part of life in Finland - pretty similar, I would say, except I was pretty much flabbergasted when I was told to drink beer right in the sauna and then started to love it 😄Also pouring beer on the rocks is not what Russians normally do, but the rest is very close
@@EikichiDrummer I was actually expecting to see a followup drinking in this video😆 few things though surprised me that they were all dressed (those Australians even were feeling shivery!) Also in Russia a man inviting a lady to sauna defo means something intimate 😄 though I understand that in Finland it is such a strong and regular custom that even business meetings can take place there )))
@@lba6859 Well, in Finland everything's the contrary. I've been to both household and public saunas (in various cities) and nothing intimate happened back there - we sat together in a mixed company, drank beer, had a great time together, but all the other intimate stuff used to happen outside of sauna, like this is not a proper place for that. Regarding being dressed - yesssss, that feels absolutely odd 😅

Minusta on hienoa, että Käärijä on ollut rohkeasti näytillä miljoonille katsojille bolerosillaan. Se merkitsee paljon niille, joita on leikattu ja jotka pelkäävät esimerkiksi uimassa käymistä, koska pelkäävät muiden ihmisten reaktioita arpiin. Minusta on hienoa, että myös lapset näkevät arpivatsaisen miehen rappaavan, laulavan ja tanssivan ja kuulevat kertovan, ettei tarvi pelätä maailmaa. Tämä maailma olisi paljon parempi paikka jos täällä olisi jokaiselle mahdollisuus mennä mukaan omista peloista tai arvista välittämättä.
Valtavasti on Käärijä ja koko Suomen työtiimi siellä tuonut näkyville hyvää suomikuvaa! Yötä päivää on Käärijä + muut ahertaneet siellä ilman vapaapäiviä. Respectiä! 💖

@@elinaviihde Aivan turhasta on sitä kielihäpeää. Kielitaito kehittyy vain puhumalla. Siellähän Käärijä on ollut nyt kielikyvetettävänä. Huomenna sitten finaalissa lauteilla vuorolla 13 💚🖤🩷
Tossa tönkössä puhumisessa on semmosta Käärijä-hahmon korostusta ja höpsöttelyä. Kuulostaa hauskemmalta.

ngl, I’d never given Finland too much thought and now Finland is on top of the list of places I want to explore and I even started to try to learn basic Finnish words
not only is Käärijä charming and made me like the country, I liked most of the music from UMK 23 and I definitely felt a connection with the Finnish people and culture as a Brazilian (Finnish people do a lot of things in the same way we do, so I’d love to visit the country)

Clarification: I know Argentina and Brazil are two vast countries with different cultures, and I am in no way implying that you are the same. I just figured that there could be a smaller tango subculture in Brazil as well, since you're neighbours, and neighbours have influence on each other.
@@bestnarryever Same here! My dad has worked in Finland for years and I’ve never really had an interest in going, but Käärijä has convinced me 😂 Also, Brazil has been top of my list for a long time! I would love to visit some day!

@Von Gröger Maybe they have read how to communicate with Finnish people. You are rude if you interrupt when a Finn is speaking, because it shows you don’t respect him or her. So people listen politely and don’t interrupt then. Another myth is that every Finn is an introvert. That is absolutely not true. That is true that Finnish extroverts enjoy to walk in the nature or bath even alone in a hot sauna. So Finnish extroverts don’t need so much company. Finns are just not used to take whole family and friend to a shop when they are buying a product type of a new carpet.

Usually the sauna is heated up to 70-100°C. Considering that the Australians were cold, I assume that that sauna wasn't really warm enough, probably the steam would have made it more difficult to shoot the video.
But the Australians were fully clothed, which is very weird for sauna 😂 You never wear any clothes for sauna (but I realize the folks here didn't want to be filmed naked, understandably).
@@florenna we don't wear clothes in sauna here in Australia - I think Voyager just didn't want to be filmed without clothing!

There are still tickets left for Käärijä's gig in Tampere on June 15th. It's a small restaurant venue right next to Särkänniemi amusent park... Tampere is the funnest, most relaxed city in Finland. Maybe think about it!

In an early interview he was asked that if he were to write a song with a current Eurovision contestant, who would it be, and his immediate reply was Teya and Salena.
And now he's buddies with the ladies and Voyager and Joker Out AND Loreen and p much everyone else, so if stars align, who knows, we could get a "Käärijä and Friends" album, or at least a bunch of singles.
So, even after the Eurovision hype dies down a bit, we could still see glimpses of these adorable friendships.

Armchairissa se "arm" tulee ilmaisusta "arm rest" eli käsinoja. Nojatuoli on siis englanniksi "käsinojallinen tuoli" ("a chair with arm rests", "an arm rest chair") mutta se "-nojallinen" ("rest") on pudonnut siitä aikojen kuluessa pois.
Eli "an arm (rest) chair" -> "an armchair"

In finland it's against the etiquette to drink beer in Sauna. Some people do, most don't drink, inside sauna that is. They drink it when cooling.. outside the hot room.
