If I had a bet - this lowering of his Trade Value might've actually helped certain teams that perhaps couldn't afford him before. Like, I could see my Hometown Padres making a play for him now by maybe giving up only one of their #6-10 prospects and a Top 30 prospect to get his services. The Padres - like many teams - are desperate for any Pitching they can get their hands on. As long as his Pitching Arm and Hand are good to go, he could be out on the mound far sooner with his hand hard-casted under his glove. Maybe they be even desperate enough to convert him back to a Starter.
So, I wouldn't say his season is ruined just yet. If he's still on the A's past the Trade Deadline, then his season is absolutely over.

As a former pitcher myself, former national hockey player for 22 years… he can definitely still play MLB Ball with a broken finger on his non-throwing hand. They can inject his finger with a steroid, a numbing cream and isolate the finger to fit in to the glove or cut a hole in the glove where the finger goes and tape over it to protect it from the outside.

I'm an IT guy and my hands are how I do my job but they're not worth millions to me, they simply keep a roof over my head (feeding the family comes from my wife's paycheck because mine is piss poor, comes from working for a shitty offshore contracting company.) If my hands were worth millions, you'd better believe I'd be damned careful with them. Most pitchers if they're lucky last a decade, a very few last longer, and you need to grab it while you can. He'll be out for 3 weeks; 4 tops. It's a hairline fracture on his non-pitching hand. Any contender that has the mint required to get this guy at the deadline is still going to get him.
