I loved those as a kid and over fifty years later still purposely drive down an out of the way concession road just to gawk at a field of them slowly rusting away. Giant mechanical dinosaurs. We used to go on field trips to tour the huge kilns where the clay tile was baked that was used in the bottom of the trenches these machines dug. Very heavy clay soils around here, every field was tiled and I guess the same clay was used to make the tile.

I can barely remember but my dad had one of those wheel trenchers in the early 1970’s. He traded it off on T 600A Vermeer then in 1976 he bought a T600C we still lay plastic field tile with today. We have another running T600C and another for parts. Those T600C’s are easy to repair you could’nt give me a train load of Vermeer 555’s.Not easy to repair am not paying a mechanic to come 150 miles one way and they are to heavy to haul on a1 ton and gooseneck trailer.
