      @Ben Sk - Thanks Ben. My vlogs tend to be info/text heavy and rushed from trying to pack too much in, so won't be everyone's cup o' tea but thank you for the high praise. STL (blushes;)

    I’ve lived elsewhere in Thailand, but never considered living in the Riverside area of Bangkok. I always thought it was too expensive. A huge thank you for taking the time to make these. Do you know of any good rental agents that handle that area?

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Mark, 1st, if you arrive at one of these buildings and ask at the lobby office usually they will have either an in-house agent or list of avail units. Or perhaps search renthub site in Thailand as it's quite good for condo rentals. Having said that unfortunately like most sites here many units are stale dated and may or may not be avail. Few agents seem to keep their listings up to date on these sites. Craigslist is a complete waste as agents simply repost the same list of condos over and over every single day, like a groundhog day site. Then there's facebook groups, just use a bit of caution as anyone and everyone can be an 'agent'. Last, always recommend to get an airbnb for at least 1 month first to see if any area is suitable before signing a year lease (the norm). Thanks for watching and commenting and good luck on your search. For any interested in part 1 of this series, here's some affordable hotels & condos: th-cam.com/video/fu2xLTogwXs/w-d-xo.html
      Cheers!

    Ohhhh... memories... I stayed right beside that ferry point at the start of this video - but I couldn’t find the ferry, or understand how to cross the river, on my arrival in Bkk on my (first) visit there. Being hours late to arrive because of airport delays, dragging a large, heavy suitcase with wheels that broke off, lost, and spending about an hour on the other side of the river bank unable to see what was right in front of me - that arrival to this very spot was the WORST travel experience of my life, ha! But after that, once I eventually crossed the river, things were okay, and I liked to hop on and off the (very cheap) ferry to cross the river, and get a cool breeze in the incredible, overwhelming heat and humidity...

    Very different to the Bangkok I saw back in the early 80’s,

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TheBelroyal Can't imagine what it was like in early 80's. You were fortunate to see it then. Was a late 90's arrival for me as a young man. After the Skytrain the pace of development has been astounding. Despite it all Bangkok remains one of my fav cities. Just hope it may it retain some more of the old along with all the new...

    You make good video´s! Interesting new places. What kind of cam do you recommend? My filming is made with an old Samsung S5... difficult to make steady filming.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ParagonSmile Thank you. I still have much to learn so mostly using my little Yi 4K+
      www.amazon.com/YI-Action-Waterproof-Control-Streaming/dp/B01CW4B2P8
      Here's a recent review:
      th-cam.com/video/67olWg6D1eM/w-d-xo.html
      It's inexpensive but does the job ok with 4K up to 60 FPS, or 4K with EIS in 30 FPS (my usual) plus live stream ability built in, external mic port (never used it, just use the on board mic;) and voice commands, view touch screen, etc etc. What I like most is it's super compact but still captures decent enough quality for youtube vids. Will upgrade once I become a better videographer and by then hopefully someone puts out a 1" sensor (for better quality + low-light) all in a compact package.
      If I absolutely HAD to buy a slightly better replacement camera right NOW, I might choose the Sony FDR-X3000
      www.amazon.com/Sony-FDRX3000-Underwater-Camcorder-White/dp/B01LYSJB8A
      Just a great all round little camera with all the options a youtuber on the go might need.
      Canon finally looks soon to launch a G7X Mark III which will have the 1" sensor plus likely some great upgrades so might keep an eye out for that. Xiaomi is also likely to launch an updated Yi 4K compact but with a 1" sensor is doubtful (would jump at it). The Osmo Pocket is another option but personally decided to wait til 2.0 version first.
      If you noticed the scene up at Le Bua State Tower bar with the river + skyline sunset scenes, I actually filmed that on my Samsung Note 9 phone. Came out surprisingly ok. So, if one is starting out or still in a steep learning curve like me, recommend just get started with a phone or a cheap but functional little 4K like the Yi and just get filming and learning along the way.

    Hi, just wondering when buying condos, cause it was not mentioned but i am sure there are maintenance fees or home owners fees. do you have info if they have and how much? very good video though very informative. plus i am from the philippines but would love to stay in bangkok for a year and travel around. what are visa requirements or is it ok to stay in Thailand for a year being the philippines is a membe of the ASEAN.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Arthur Ifurung Monthly maintenance fees vary depending on quality, amenities and location. But in Bangkok factor say 60 baht per Sq M (approx $2 per Sq M) and usually this is paid yearly at once. Another fee to consider is the 'sinking fund' (collected from all owners and pooled for any future major repairs etc). This is usually paid one time up front and again varies depending. However factor say 600 baht per Sq M.
      As for ASEAN, this collective of SE Asia Nations meets annually and sets mutual trade and other agreements. Among those has been much talk of an ASEAN visa for citizens of SE Asia nations. However this is yet to be finalised. Hope this info is helpful to you and perhaps others looking in. Cheers! STL

    Bangkok looks a little pricier than other videos when you’re traveling by scooter or your new car.
    Do you prefer to be in the small towns all the way from Bangkok or do you prefer Bangkok?

    We have had those damn electric scooters in Stocholm for maybe two years now, and they are in the way for everyone and everything. I hope they forbid them very soon!

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      555! Those stand-up e-scooters can be a menance. BUT it's not the scooter, it's the RIDERS, also leaving them strewn about on sidewalks, doorways etc after finished renting.
      EDIT to add: BUT BUT EVs will certainly rule and sooner than many realise.
      Here's my vid test driving some EVs in Bangkok if any are interested:
