Satori, I specifically sent this request to you because of your love for Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis produced music. This was her last hit song and was my jam from day one. Her most famous song is the disco classic Don't Leave Me This Way. Glad you vibed to it.
Great choice, Shannon! And, Satori: when you react to Don't Leave Me This Way, PLEASE go with the full album version (5:42) to experience the full effect! Happy New Year, SMG Fam! th-cam.com/video/rUdw7V-FC_Q/w-d-xo.html
I love this! This is my first time hearing this song by Thelma Houston! Her vocals are amazing! Whenever I hear "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Ms. Houston, I am so impressed! Satori is jamming! We are loving it! ❤😎GREAT REACTION! Great request as well! Thank you!❤😊 You just can't beat the "old school" cuts! Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were everywhere! ❤😎
I will NEVER forget the first time I heard this....Thelma performing this on Soul Train....and I was hooked IMMEDIATELY!! Every time it came on the radio after I was screamin' "THATS MAH SONG!!!!" 🤩 The melody...the vibe...the lyrics...the chorus..."Youuuu...Used to...Used to Hold...Used to Hold Me...Used to Hold Me So TIIIIIIIIGHT!!!" CHIIIIIILE that song was FIYUH!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Um whatca man tough tune from 4 decades ago what a groove in the top 5 of jam and Lewis production sounds so good I have the album which is not very good but keep on groovin good for your health
Perhaps bc you’re not as big of an R&B fan as you think you are. Some ppl only know crossover hits like from Michael, Janet, Prince and Lionel Richie. ✌🏽
Back in the day the radio 📻 stations dictated what should be played or not played on the air. They were owned by a few people and It was not always the other songs on an album, cassette, 💿 or cd that they gave air time to! (The B- side!) It was all about what was being played on a national stage, television, etc. Sometimes I bought an entire album if I loved the artist and I also bought just the single as well. It just depended on what I could afford also. We had so many great songs during that era until it was impossible to hear or get them all! The list is endless! This should have been a top hit song by the legendary Thelma Houston! That might be some of the reasons Michael! I am speculating! Guess what though? We are hearing it for the first time now and it is definitely going on my playlist! 😎❤️👍🏽
@ “You Used To Hold Me So Tight” peaked @ #13 on the Billboard R&B charts in Nov of 1984. Just to give you some point of reference, at its peak, YUTHMST was a hit at the same time as “Operator” by Midnight Star, “Contagious” by The Whispers, “Rainforest” by Paul Hardcastle, “Hang On To Your Love” by Sade and “No One’s Gonna Love You” by The SOS Band. Btw, it did even better on the Billboard Dance charts: it got as high as #6. ✌🏽
@@gabrielmcdonnell8699 I appreciate this information Gabriel. Very interesting! Thelma Houston scored a number one hit in 1977 with “Don’t Leave Me This Way” and she won the Grammy for Best Female R&B vocal performance. That song played over and over on radio stations back in the day! According to discovermusic, In the “minds”of most music fans, that was her only hit, but the versatility of earlier songs like the Jam and Lewis hit “You Used To Hold Me So Tight” tells us how extraordinarily talented she really was! By the way Gabriel, you are my go to Music man and critic! 😎❤️👍🏽⭐️🔥💿📻🎤🎼🎶🎧🪩
