Anyone remember the old fishing shows that were on TNN early in the morning on Sundays? Bill Dance Outdoors, Fishing with Roland Martin, Lunder's Outdoors, and coverages of the B.A.S.S. championships? I would sit every Saturday and Sunday morning and watch them until noon when they would switch programming.
So, when I was a teenager I went to the Diesel Institute of America and our year end test was to pull a city bus into the shop, tear the engine out of the back of it, rebuild it and install it again. If it ran properly, we passed, and we did. One of our special field trips was to go to the port and inspect a container ship's 9 cylinder Wartsila diesel. They handed me a single piston ring and it was 4 feet in diameter and as thick as your hand all the way around. You can imagine how much power and torque that engine makes to move a 100,000+ ton ship. Plus, it had a turbocharger that was about as big as my Peterbilt attached to it.
So old school. Propane has been dead in the diesel world for like 10 years lol. 426hp at the wheels is so easy to make even on an old LB7 without injecting anything into it.
Yeah but still enjoyable if you go on power Nations website they say as much. That said I found them to be pretty honest. They often didn't mention the price but other than that Not a lot of eBay Chinese turbo kits being pushed but brands like ARP which are expensive but still have a good reputation throughout the industry.
Ahhhh, this is so retro. I had a 2005 6.0L Powerstroke diesel with a Bully Dog GT Platinum programmer, literally just mounted on my a pillar had a touch screen 4 pre loaded tunes, ability to scan trouble codes, just plugged right into the obd II port.
Well you have to understand that this was almost twenty years ago man lol. That's the same reason that diesel is cranking out such small and uneven numbers haha
I understand it's old. I watched these every weekend morning when they came out lol but still they had the ability and the knowledge it would handle it. At least 75 shot would have made way more sense.
@@TexasGTO late response, but I feel like they didn't want to give people the idea to do something that may blow their engine. 75 isn't a lot, but it can be enough to start knock, especially when you're considering whatever else they got from the propane.
@@TexasGTO gotta take into account that those year duramaxs weren’t the best in terms of strength, I mean those were some of the first development duramaxs when they were still working out all the kinks, plus you can tell it’s old do to the fact I doubt people are doing propane injection anymore these days. Most people are twin and triple turboing their diesels now a days and they actually make triple turbo kits for the duramaxs now, plus most set ups have nitrous just for turbo spool and not so much for down track runs. It was also a built truck too though were as this one was probably stock internals but even so people are running 700HP in duramaxs easily with stock internals which is still pretty crazy in my opinion.
This is awesome, in 2005 it was plug and play but now you don't have to do anything because the horsepower and torque are crazy, but nice to know you can still tweak and be safe hehe
@falchulk This is true. I am 36 and I drive multiple trucks every day, although I work with mine because I deliver oilfield equipment to gas pads here in the northeast. Alot of people just buy a truck to drive every day, but in reality they're just like people with cars. People modify their cars, but they don't work out of them, and alot of people regard buying a truck as just having another vehicle and they never haul anything more than the occasional furniture piece for a friend. My manager is from Canada and both him and his wife drive trucks and you know she's never hauled anything in hers, that's just what they prefer to drive instead of a car. My point is that you don't have to work with your truck to own one, it's a lifestyle choice like started above. Some people just like to sit up high over the road when they drive. I've owned many trucks in my lifetime so far. I own 6 of them right now including a 2014 Peterbilt 367, a 2014 Ford F-750, a 2011 Ford F-550, a 2017 Ford F-550, a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500HD, and a 2015 Chevrolet 2500HD, ALL diesel trucks for hauling, and I also own 5 gooseneck and fifth wheel trailers for these trucks. I daily the Ram.
Several propane suppliers have declined to fill my tank because the expiration stamp on the tank was not visible without climbing under the truck. They are also required to do a visual inspection before filling. We ended up relocating the tank into the bed. Also lowers the risk of tank damage or puncture on gravel roads.
People forget back then that was good horsepower and torque numbers!! If you had a truck that ran that good You Were the King!!! were spoiled now my tuned 2.7 ecoboost is making 400 hp and 500 tq at the flywheel modern horsepower wars even with trucks!! But i love these old 90s episodes with Stacy David i watched as a kid its nostalgic!!!
someone correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the 2008 and newer ford 6.7 powerstroke make 400 hp and 800 torque stock, about not much less than this duramax with several thousand dollars of power adders
I don't recall Stacy and Joe having a show together. The original hosts of TRUCKS were Stacy David & Mel Fair and the original hosts of ENGINE POWER were Chuck Hanson & Joe Elmore.
Does anyone know if this can be done to Nissan or Toyota hilux - 2.5 - 3L engines I searched and didn't come up with anything. I don't see why it won't work but it sounds cheaper to add propane for more power. in my country it's $5 usd for a tank of propane
You are not talking about the amount of BTUs in diesel v. gasoline v. propane. Fact is that diesel has lots more heat than gasoline. Hot air moves the pistons!
When these engines first came out, Gale Banks was spinning them to 7000rpm and making ludicrous power. I'm sure all that research went somewhere. It isn't like a 12v Cummins tractor engine that you can literally bolt 200hp on, these are more dependent on the tune.
Conway16o that’s what I’m saying but I’m guessing he didn’t have enough injector left in the truck to get full Benefits. Just a turbo upgrade nowadays would make more then those numbers for cheaper
They should have done more pipe work, like a better down pipe, no catalytic converters, muffler, y-pipe, cooler pipes, and all that Jazz, and smog pump delete if that truck had it, which more than likely had. They probably had to comply with the laws though.
Something I've never seen go on a diesel? It's funny how far technology has gone since he was host, every performance diesel that's worth a damn has nitrous now.
