I really love how he smoothly transitions from a slow, melodic, bendy start into a fast, ripping shred towards the end of his solo. His using of whammy bar is also godly. Rest well Ko-Gami, no one will ever forget your talent.
His style kind of reminds me of Chris Poland of Megadeth. Still extremely different, but in regard to their approach to technique and phrasing I think they aren't too far off base.

I’m am absolutely devastated to hear that Mikio Fujioka has passed away. My sincere condolences to his family and children. A legend will never be forgotten, he was loved by all. I will truly miss my number one favourite KAMIBAND member.

I just found this band on December 23, 2017. I had seen blurbs about them only in passing and never took too much heed. My first video I watched was Catch Me If You Can and I never looked back. The solos drew me in, especially Mikio's performance. His smile. His demeanor. His fun loving attitude. His slamming riffs that melt your face. All of this was part of the reason I got so hooked on this band. I had a very bad 2017 and this band turned my life completely around. I will never forget this and though I have never seen this band live, I will and I will honor Mikio. I don't know about you guys, but I am extremely sad. Today was bittersweet. I had just bought the Tokyo Dome show and watched it last night twice and then I come to work this morning and saw the news. It's rare that in this day and age that I get so wound up over a band especially musicians, but this band has got what it takes and I know they are all going to miss this man's smile and his musical talents. We are the One! Look after him oh Fox God :(
I found them on youtube in 2014. I'm a disabled and retired Navy vet. I had a MRI earlier this year. I'm a bit claustrophobic. I was listening to Babymetal's Karate and it got me through it. When I'm depressed I listen to them. Mikio was a fantastic guitarist. The band took two hits, his death and yuimetal leaving. but I'll be a fan forever and support Yui if she goes solo. Looking forward to what the future brings.
He is my Favorite member on Kami band.. and always be my Favorite...

神 (God) on its own is written as kami but in this case its pronounced ko-gami because it has another word 'ko' coming before it.
I had the pleasure of seeing them live at download 2016 when I found out about his death I cried like a baby. Still sad to this day that hes no longer with us just look at his cuteness and that infectious smile while playing you could tell he really loved what he did. MISS YOU MIKIO 😭😭😭😭

You will be sorely missed. Such an inspiration.
He was really coming into his own, in terms of guitar style. He could definitely shred, but you can tell that he was introducing elements and flavors that were uniquely his. His work with the whammy bar shows a lot of Jeff Beck influence, and was very musical, and with a singer's quality. That, is where a shredder truly begins to find his or her own voice. Anyone can rip around on scales. but how you use those scales, and how you accent those moments with lyrical playing; that is how you define YOUR voice.
Oh my God.....I don't know what to say. I'm chocked right now. My respect and condolences for all BABYMETAL family. Great musician. Rest in Peace Mikio Fujioka.

I shouldn't need to be reminded of the amazing performances of Mikio but still, I come and revisit his greatness. Absolutely mesmerising to watch and listen. We all can't quite come to grips with the loss of such a legend though. RIP

まだ心の整理がつかないけれど、多少は落ち着いて参りました。
文章がやっとこさ書けるくらいに。
僕の周りには、不幸にもベビメタファンは全く居ない。
だから、どうしてもここでこの暗澹たる思いの全て吐き出してしまいたいのです。
ちょっと、私事の長文になってしまいますがメイトの皆様どうかお許し下さい。
アコギで「この曲」弾いて歌ってたら、歌詞が藤岡さんと重なって泣けてきた・・・
誰に何と言われようが、僕がベビメタでダントツに好きな「この楽曲」。
僕はアコギ派でエレキ全くダメだから、他の曲はアコギでは難し過ぎて太刀打ちできない。
しかも、年取って手が震えるので往年の技は全く使えず、今ではストロークしかできない。
でも「この曲」だけは、アレンジもメタル離れしていて
ベビメタで唯一のアコギでも違和感のないバラードだから弾けるのだ。
エレキ奏者は今まで興味が無く、ファンになったことも皆無で上手い下手も全く判らなかった。
でも、エレキど素人のこの僕でさえ流石に神バンドの物凄さは判る。当然他の楽器のみんなも大好きだよ。
アコギ至上主義者のこの僕が、生まれて初めてエレキ演奏がカッコイイと思った。
エレキ奏者のキャラとしては、大村さんのパフォーマンス、イケメン、高身長のカッコ良さ
そして勿の論、速弾きも大大大好きなんだけれども
藤岡さんの明らかなる変態弾き？(何て言う奏法なのか全然解らん)の音色の虜になった。
まだ一年ちょっとのキツネだけれども、そのきっかけはウェンブリーのCMIYCの頭のソロ演奏。
そして、東京ドームとウェンブリーの紅月の微妙な音の違いで藤岡さんファンを確信。
すぅさんのお声自体は、東京ドームの方が迫力があって好きなんだけど
ウェンブリーの大神＆小神コンビの間奏のツインギターの処。
あくまで、僕の個人的感性にはウェンブリーの方が遥かに心地よく聴こえるんだ。
でもまさかよりによってヘビメタなのに、いかついお兄さんじゃなくって
ちっちゃくて子供みたいに純心な笑顔のKAWAII藤岡さんの大ファンになるとは・・・人生ってオモロイなあ。
でも、掟破り過ぎの超絶KAWAYUIベビメタにとっては、最高の♪宝物に出逢えた♪だよね。
そして、僕の中でも世界一のエレキギターリストは紛れもなく藤岡さん正にあなたなのです。
年末の30日に熱が出た(藤岡さんが落っこちた日)。
高熱が出て全く動けず、寝たきり老人状態で年越し。
漸く4日に熱が下がってなんとか動ける状態になったけど、まだフラフラだったので
5日に病院に行ったら、今までかかったことのないインフルエンザ判定(藤岡さんが旅立った日)。
点滴打ってもらったけど、病院で待たされ過ぎて反って疲れちゃって
家に帰ってからも状態は一進一退で、その日から数日間全くネット見る気になれず。
9日までにナンとかカンとか回復し、久々にネットを見た瞬間悪夢のニュース(藤岡さん訃報発表の日)。
これ、本当に作り話ではなく信じて貰えないだろうけれども事実なんですよ。
当然この事を話し合える人間は存在せず、精神的ショックをたった独りで抱え込み
心の捌け口もなく、また悶々と数日間再び眠れない寝たきり老人に逆戻り。
この歳でまさか、ジョン・レノン、尾崎の時とおんなじ思いをするとは夢にも思わなんだ。
♪だけど この目に映る♪ ネットでのボタン押し間違えでたまたまベビメタ見つける事ができた。
今こんなにも辛い思いはしてるけど、僕としては藤岡さんの生命に間に合って非常に幸運だったと思う。
ただ、LIVEにも行けていない単なるいちファンの新参者の僕がこれだけ落ち込んでいるのです。
故に、ご家族のご心中は察するに余りあるものがあります。
いらない 何も 明日さえも

絶望さえも 光になる
悲しい雨が 虹をかけるよ

二度と会えないけど
忘れないでいたいよ

Mr. Fujioka is surely shredding with his heroes in heaven. A world-class talent taken far too young. His contributions to BABYMETAL forced the metal world to sit up and take them seriously.

僕は彼の名前を「かんた」とずっと間違って呼んでいました。「みきお」なんですね。
僕が彼を身近に感じていたのは、この「かんた」という間違えていた、親しいみのある名前だけではないのです。彼の演奏スタイルはアラン・ホールズワーズの影響を受けている事が、最初に彼の演奏を聴いてすぐにわかりました。
僕も20才になったばかりのころ，アランにドハマりしていました。1970年の終わりごろから1980年代の初期にかけてです。アランの参加しているアルバムを全て集めて聴きまくっていました。
藤岡さんのように若いギタリストが、アランの影響を受けていて、そのプレイが世界的に評価されている事を、本当にワクワクして誇らしい気持ちでいたのです。
亡くなったことが本当に残念で悲しく落ち込んでいました。こんな気持ちはジョン・レノン以来です。ちなみにアランの影響を受けていたと公言していたことも、誕生日が僕と同じ1月19日だった事も、彼が亡くなってから知りました。余計に親しみを感じてしまいます。

0:32 That sound, the way Mikio uesd the whammy bar. That's how I know as a fact, Shine from Metal Galaxy is a tribute to Mikio. Around 3:00 in the middle of the solo of Shine, You can hear it. The signature sound of Mikio bust out, then shine through. Like mikio, Kami band members are so important to BABYMETAL. They shaped the metal side of the band in early stage through these riffs and solos. I know they usually are not credited as composers. But in interviews, Mikio and Takayoshi treat these riffs and solos in the way that is written by them.
