The purpose of tarrifs is to protect local production. If a country does not produce something, putting a tarrif on that thing doesn't protect anything, it just makes the product harder to buy for the locals.
The US isn't punished by tariffs. It's punished by the fact that US foodstuffs are filled with toxic chemicals. For example, here in the UK, it's illegal to import fruit loops from the US because the artificial blueberry colour in them has been linked to brain cancer. The UK has sought a trade deal with the US for the last 4 years but it's impossible because our food safety laws will not allow the importation of US agricultural goods on the grounds of how it's processed. Stop using growth hormones in beef and stop chorine washing chicken then we will buy it.

Here's how it works: Country or group says "we are going to start fighting". Trump sends a clear message "You could do that, and we could launch a few missiles and really mess you up, or you could just chill out and get along". Pretty much how it worked last time, and sometimes there were a few missiles, and sometimes there was diplomacy. But you don't have to go to war to send the message literally or figuratively.
You haven't actually provided anything if you're not willing to use it when it counts. If you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is then your protection is _and has always been_ the world's most expensive bluff.

You sound a bit under the weather, Simon. If that’s the case, I hope you get well soon!
Simon at it again - instead of butchering the Abkhazia and Ossetia names, just call them Anastasia 1 and Anastasia 2 and move on.

I studied history in Uni. I'm terrified to watch this. I hope sand tastes as good as the ostriches make it seem.
As a negotiating tactic, announcing ahead of time that you don’t want to start any wars is a weak first move. I thought Trump was practicing the “crazier than thou” strategy.
My guess for Taiwan is that Trump will simply fold and we end up buying chips from China. The disruption of a conflict with China would make Covid supply chain problems seem like heaven.
Trump said he would end all wars. Let's hope he keeps his promises.
No one person can pull that off, and nobody who would actually make that claim about themselves is going to be a meaningful part of that process.
Nato doesn't want an end to wars
@@strongmermaid4651we all want qars to stop. Why qould we not want to?
Hahahahaha like he ended the war in Afghanistan?! Or all the ones in Africa n S America that were going on? Didn’t Russia get bold right round his first term and start the process of war in Ukraine by annexing Crimea? Only promises he’ll keep are ones that enrich him and his billionaire buddies.
The worst restarting conflict is the one fought between Trump's doctors and 12 Diet Cokes per day
Last time Trump was president the world was a lot more peaceful.
Many members of his staff have attested to this having little to do with Trump himself, who had to repeatedly be talked out of nuking his problems.
It won't be so this time. His third term here is gonna be rocky. Just wait until the fourth.
@@aesop2733 third? did you drink the paint thinner again?
@@KT-pv3kl Nah, he's probably right. Trump will try to railroad either himself or his son-in-law back into the presidency after his second term.
@@anthonybraden157 this is why the libs lost the election. you don't even understand the basics of conservative politics or politics in general. after trump jd vance will be the maga candidate. he is the choice of trumps big tech billionaires and was specifically chosen as their plant to inherit trumps legacy. trumps son will be next in line after vance provided the dems manage to run face first into a wall again as they did in this election by denying reality.
i don't think its likely that trumps son will ever get elected president however as he has zero pedigree on the economic or political stage other than having a famous billionaire dad.
you do have a point however on a possible 3rd term for trump provided a major war kicks off or the current russia conflict escalates beyond eastern Europe as it would give trump carte blanc to suspend the elections. however in order to do this trump would need to actually declare a state of war which is rather uncommon in our day and age where all wars are excused as "peacekeeping operations" by all global players.

How much does it cost to relocate tsmc to a less problematic location?
Trillions. You essentially have to move the fabs, equipment, people, living accommodation for the people, power generation, water cleaning, and more to a location where the logistics would make sense. Basically move taiwan to america and give the empty island of taiwan to ccp.
Your channel is one of the only truly unbiased geopolitics channels I’ve found
lol sure dude
Unbiased😂😂 that’s a good joke. It’s a good channel but unbiased it is not
why is it that we all see the guy saying things we agree with as "unbiased"
Not unbiased at all wake up dummy
A good channel but not an unbiased one
Hahaha... geez guys... it's all on trump huh. No one anywhere has agency over themselves. Fix your own damn problems.
What is this hysterical trump propaganda lately. Calm down guys.
Someday we'll MTWGA.

Moldova is part of nato? Lol. Ao much wrong with your biased videos. 😂
I guess mistakes=biased now also if I can ask why do you people always put emojis at the end of every sentence
@chaosgamer016_5 yeah sorry i misundstood the comment. The emoji is so that people don't misunderstand the message. I guess my comment was not necessary. No emoji at the end of this comment tho

But you don't have to go to war to send the message literally or figuratively.
hmmmm sounds like Europeans are very dependent on the US for stabilization and maybe we should be compensated for that
So the almost entirely open trade relationship between the US and Europe is not enough?
You haven't actually provided anything if you're not willing to use it when it counts. If you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is then your protection is _and has always been_ the world's most expensive bluff.
Also, you're being compensated. Handsomely. You get a lot of favours for being the West's security guarantor. If you're no longer trusted in that role then those favours will quickly stop coming, and believe me when I tell you that you _will_ notice their absence.
@@resileaf9501 the trade relationship is in no way "entirely open" if you ever tried importing American goods to Europe you would know the monumental amounts of red tape to go around. its often easyer to import stuff from china to the EU than the US
@@Talisguy what favors?
Idea:
All these FROZEN conflict areas should be goven the UN and are free trade areas.
🤷
I think before you go any further, you should explain why you don't like Trump, because it seems to be adding a lot of bias to your videos. If it's simply because Europe might have to start paying their fair share, then suck it up. I'm tired of the strained middle class in America having to pay for Europe's luxuries
That’s not at all what happened he literally explained the points trump has made and America doesn’t pay for europes luxuries lmao
