In other news, the Memorial Bridge Water Gang has increased the price of passage from one bottle of dirty water to two purified ones. This has sparked outrage in all 13 surviving people within The Pitt.
Mutant sightings have also increased dramatically, although critics of the danger posed by them state that "A big gun deals with them just fine". More at 9

If the United States of America were to be invaded by a foreign power, in such an aggressive way, such as what's happened in Ukraine, I genuinely feel the general tone and sentiment of what the response should be would be drastically different. Natural, of course, but the hypocrisy of my fellow countrymen is disheartening.
If we were a fraction of the size economically, and militarily as say, China, and China were to invade, I'm sure we would be desperate for any help we could get; and discouraged and or angry about the lack of assistance some western civilians voice we should be giving.
It doesn't stop with Ukraine., if the Kremlin does succeed in their war with them.

    • @scorpioneldar
      @scorpioneldar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

of course we would. we are Americans and in your scenario America would be under threat. it us up to us to look out for our interests. just as it is up to the Ukrainians to look out for theirs while they are under threat. that's not hypocrisy . that's actually fairness. for all people keep saying it. America and Ukraine are Explicitly NOT allies. We never became allies. they TRIED to join our alliance structure and we said NO precisely because we did not want this fight that is happening now to be ours. we are not obligated to look out for their interests. or even to care about them. and even if we were allies. we would only be obligated to do as much as whatever alliance treaty says we should do. EVERYTHING we have done for them thus far is charity. charity that I think benefits us... and that we should continue to do to be clear. I want Ukraine to win this war. I want Putin and Russia punished for their actions. I want this to resolve favorably for Ukraine... but that doesn't change the actual facts. we owe them nothing. they are not our ally. we have already done far more than we had to or should have. though clearly not as much as we could. And I do still want us to do more.
WHEN we have been under attack by outside powers we HAVE been desperate for aid and angry when we didn't get it. as would anyone. but just because someone is desperate and angry. doesn't mean that anyone else owes them anything at all. much less everything.
Ukraine should absolutely do whatever it can wherever it can to serve its own interests. 100% but if they want to use our tools. they need to abide by our rules. and it isn't in our interest to risk nuclear apocalypse to save a country that would also disappear in the nuclear fireball should we guess wrong. Ukraine may be more willing to take risks than we are. understandably. they have a lot more to lose if they don't and at the most extreme end don't lose much more than they would otherwise if they are wrong. but we have a lot to lose if they guess wrong... and very little to gain. so again. if they want our help. they use OUR standards. not theirs. if they want to go it alone they can do whatever the hell they please.
now if we get to my personal policy preferences. I say that they should be able to hit anything that is used to harm them total war style and that I doubt Putin will rain nukes on countries they aren't actively fighting while the one they are fighting is right there to be hit. I don't think Putin wants to end the world. nor do I believe he would be willing to. but he might be willing to nuke Ukraine itself. again total war style. but I don't think that benefits him. nor do I think us encouraging Putin to go there benefits Ukraine either. however. if that is a risk Ukraine wants to take. then so be it is my outlook. But our leaders don't agree with me. they think Putin is willing to end the world. they thing Putin is willing to waste firepower on countries they aren't fighting. so their appetite for risk is understandably different than mine. and they are the ones with the secret knowledge and best spies. not me.

If the average age of the Russian fighters wasn't hovering at 50 and the vast majority of their equipment wasn't refurbished out of emptying storage yards, it'd be worrisome, true. If Iran had a strong army and the support of its people, if NK equipment wasn't ancient and poorly maintained, if China had actually participated in any of this instead of just war profiteering and scoring political points but by and large doing its own thing, (which is the actual worrying part,) it'd be worrying.

Boy those next generation bombers and missiles (which if i were a betting man, I'd say still require a heavy amount of r&d) are gonna be expensive. Seems difficult for a nation with an absolutely baloonign defense budget to manage on the long term. Reminds me of a certain Soviet nation in the 80's.

Ukraine says they need this or that to win the war but refuses to use the weapons given in the way they were designed to be used. They constantly ask, no demand more while ignoring the western nations strategies and tactics for blatantly obvious Russia military tactics. Both sides have miss used armored vehicles both sides have used mass waves, both sides have used artillery, bombs to attack civilian targets.

I think it's just more posturing by Putin.
Regardless of what he says or how he acts, he's not stupid. He knows full well that nuclear armegeddon isn't his or Russia's best interest.
It doesn't really matter who has more nukes when we're talking thousands of missiles. Fact of the matter is, there are more countries pointing them at Russia than Russia could realistically handle. Russia's only strategic allies are NK, Iran, and China. NK is probably the only other country that potentially has the capability to fire nuclear weapons at US soil or it's allies and the stupidity required to do so, but they also have the smallest nuclear arsenal in the world and are much more concerned with South Korea, than the US mainland.

9:13 "At some point there will be a line ... "
There doesn't have to ever be a line.
There are two possible nuclear strategies: nuclear deterrence and nuclear blackmail. In nuclear deterrence, you specify very few conditions (possibly only one) to which you would respond with nuclear omnicide, and you do whatever it takes to make a credible commitment to respond under those circumstances. In other words, you draw a red line. Any actual benefit you get from your nuclear arsenal takes place at lower levels of the hierarchy of threat. Your adversaries can't credibly threaten to make a nuclear first strike over something that's only moderately significant to them, because they know you would respond. So you can be more credible if you threaten to do that moderately-significant thing as a deterrent to something else, and the balance on that threat affects yet another level of less-significant things, grounding out in a difference on the issues you actually haggle over in day-to-day diplomacy.
In nuclear blackmail, by contrast, you apply the threat of nuclear omnicide directly to whatever issue you're talking about that day. It's not very credible, but maybe you can convince your adversary that you might not be particularly attached to the idea of continuing to exist in a form other than radioactive vapor, and that you just might be that fanatical about the particular issue you're making the threat over, so that your adversary decides it's not worth the risk. In other words, you draw a fake red line, every time you feel like getting a little extra leverage on a quotidian issue.
These two options are incompatible. The more fake lines you draw, the harder it is to credibly draw a real one. Putin has heavily committed to the second option. Switching to deterrence would be a wrenching change. As long as his current approach seems to be working, even a little, he probably won't switch. It is possible to keep on letting it work a little, and have Russia lose decisively. We have to keep hesitating just enough, and then doing just a little less than would actually be in our interests if each step were evaluated in isolation -- but still crossing the fake red lines eventually, and still doing enough to eventually bring Russia to the point where unconditional surrender looks like their least-bad option, followed by nuclear disarmament in exchange for a new Marshall Plan. It's certainly not easy. We probably won't. But it is possible.
