- Three nights on Lake Winnipeg (AKA Big Windy) chasin' big greenback walleyes with my good buddy Brett McComas (Mr. Target Walleye). Lot of big fish action and some great Livescope footage. Enjoy!
Special thanks to Kris Gaune (gaunefishin.ca/) for hosting us in the fancy Yetti fish house and putting us on a sweet bite!

Have traveled to Lake Winnipeg many times starting 20+ years ago and I really don't know where to start but you're spending a lot of time and money with hopes of catching something really special. In my experience you have to be very mobile. You're spending a lot of precious time and money to make the trip. I, personally, would absolutely not lug a massive fish house up there. I've been up there when you had to have two extensions on your auger to get through the ice. If you're extremely lucky, you'll have a year where you can get around with a properly equipped 4X4 pickup but many years we would not have been able to fish without a snowmobile or tracked quad. A decent two up snowmobile with a covered pull behind sled that attaches to your sled with a static coupler and a rack for your auger gives you the ability to be constantly on the move until you start to locate pods of huge fish. You'll know that you're on them when everyone in your party is icing giants which sometimes take hours or even days to locate. If you're catching 2-7 pounders, move on, you can catch them at home. Plan on experiencing busted equipment and horrible weather conditions, I could go on and on including one year when we had a pressure ridge form out from the access during the day while we were out on the lake forcing us to drive many miles across the lake to another access point where we were very, very lucky to get off the lake. That was a decent fish in the video, when you're with a group of 3 or 4 guys and you're all putting fish like that on the ice you'll have experienced fishing nirvana. Your group should be loosely spread out and leapfrog around once someone gets a decent fish, like 50-100 yards until you really get them dialed in. To fish it right is truly exhausting as I get quite a bit older I have to be honest with myself and not attempt it on a year without optimal weather and ice conditions. Best of luck to everyone, we've made a lot of friends up there over the years, mostly friendly and helpful Canadians some of which we, in turn, helped out. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with sitting in a fish house drinking beer and eating deer sausage, just not here imho (well, drinking beer on the ice is illegal in Canada fyi).
Thanks for the 2c. It’s a magical place no doubt!
Believe it or not, we actually ended up out producing many of the other parties we spoke to on those particular days, which I would never have guessed. It helped that the bite was very tough during that three day window. But it was very interesting to see the line of folks leaving the lake in the evening, then the fish would start going nuts about 30 minutes later. I was very surprised by the night bite out there. I didn’t put all the fish we caught into the video, but the bite was very good during the key morning/evening windows. We would have had a lot better results during the day if we had been mobile of course! Regardless, I know we didn’t experience the absolute best of the best that Winnipeg has to offer.
You've been sitting on this great ice fishing footage since March, just waiting to get us all hyped up a couple weeks before ice season. Love it!
Haha you got it! Was excited to get this one out. Took me three days to go through the footage and edit… 😅
Nice job Nick! Love your videos bud
Shoot! I bet that was hard waiting all open water season to put this banger out! Well done! I bet that fish Brett couldn't get in 4 times was a burbot
Nice work gents
P.S. love the Livescope Overlay, might need to borrow that 😊
Thanks man. The hardest part was the three days it took to go through and edit 170gb of footage 😅
Looks like a terrible time…. to be a big walleye! 😂
Haha, don’t worry, some big ones definitely escaped our treble hooks!
The overlay of the garmen over the video is a sweet idea
Thanks man!
Good times! Good people! Enjoyed the video!!
Thanks Craig. Good times were definitely had!
I just stumbled upon this video.. you guys are funnyy! In a good way. Bretts reaction to that mondo mark is priceless 😂😂! Grats nick on that sow of a walleye!!
We have a lot of fun haha
20:47 - Me: "And I subscribe to this guys' newsletter" LOL!
😂 😂 😂
Target Walleye Brett...Is my hero;)
Mine too!
This peaked my interest so i looked the guy up. $600 bucks a day to rent. Thats a hard Pass.
I feel you. That’s pretty standard pricing for something like that though. His prices might be CAD, too? 🤷♂️ Either way, I understand what you’re saying!
It ain't too bad if you're splitting the cost with your friends.
way to feed the fever! cant wait for this ice fishing season to start... i would love to ice fish like that for a change ... what comfort!
keep those ice fishing videos coming... what a freakin tank of a walleye!!!
Thanks Slip. Lots more content to come 👍
Easily the best Ice Shack fishing video ever. Thanks dudes!
Thanks man. It was easily the best bite I’ve been on in a big fish house before.
Check out Clayton Schick Outdoors. Great ice videos...
Brett's Randy Savage "oh yeah" had me rolling! Awesome fish Nick! It looks like you guys had a blast.
It was some serious fun!
This video was super fun. Really enjoyed it guys!
Thanks man!
Wtf! 3min in and that happens! That’s so sick man. Awesome vid. Thank you. Congrats. ✌️
Thanks man! Can’t beat popping an 11.55lber almost immediately on the first morning.
@@NickLindner sure does make everything else gravy! Lol I’m up north a couple hours of Toronto. Can’t wait for the ice season to start this year.
LOL! "I'm gonna poop my pants!"🤣 Man, them Walleye can make a grown man look silly! Great Video highlighting Lake Winnipeg. You guys are a lot of fun to watch. Catching Big momma Greenbacks on Lake Winnipeg never gets old.
It NEVER gets old! I want to get up there again this winter. Maybe a couple times! haha
Giant walleye and thru the ice amazing thanks for showing.
Thanks for watching. It was a blast
Love the video, Nick! I love that you guys hoarded footage from late last season to get everyone hyped for this season! 🙌 P.S. Definitely digging that Livescope overlay. Trend setter!
Thanks man. I was excited to show everyone this trip!
Great Video guys, the Livescope footage overlay with the video is a real nice touch!
Appreciate it Rodney. Thanks for watching!
That's the thing about ice fishing, always have SO much food to eat, fish fry, steak, potatoes, bacon, burnt ends, beef jerkey, beer, reefer, the thing ya cant notice while watching on TH-cam is the smells!!!😂 3-4 guys consuming food and drink like that can get pretty aromatic, especially when it becomes a game,🤢 it always happens on every ice fishing trip lol! 🍻✌🇨🇦
Haha, you're not wrong! We always, ALWAYS overpack for these things lol
What an experience that must of been.Dammm that looked amazing, from the fishing, the cooking and the yeti itself.Just awsome
It really was a wildly enjoyable trip!
5th, 10th, 30th time might not be the charm! I've had whole days like that! You see them, they nudge the bait but just won't commit! So frustrating! Thanks for the chuckles, fellas!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Great video nick, me and some friends are going to Winnipeg in late January. What’s your suggestion for line weight and type? Thanks!
Most guys are using 10lb. I like fluorocarbon
Love the overlay @5:20
Thanks. I want to do a lot more of it this winter.
it's not good to let the fish go, and if you don't need the fish, then give it to the cripples or beggars, it will be a good God-pleasing deed.
Sounds good!
Looks like and absolute blast! What 2500 Ballistic are you running with that?
Just a Daiwa Ballistic 2500 LT. I think it’s an older model.
If you don't want to get mobbed out there, you've gotta clean up the fish skins after filleting. 😉
100%
❤🎣 can’t wait for this upcoming ice season!
It’s almost here!
So you use active captain to your phone, then screen mirror to the tv?
We’re actually using the hdmi port in the back to connect directly to the tv.
How did you get that livescope connected to the TV
You need a unit with an hdmi out port
how long was that walter out of the water !!!!! 7 min ?? thats so bad boys . show the lake respect and handle the fish quick and gentle
She’s still out of the water, man! #shorelunch
hahaha classic@@NickLindner
Bro i hope you got a graphite copy of that absolute hawg
I want to! Haven’t pulled the trigger yet though
So unreal! That was amazing fishing...how can a person even come home and fish on the home lake after tanks like those? Spoiled is all I can think. Do I even want to fish there? Yes! Ha, ha, ha!
Ultimately, I *needed* to come home, otherwise the Canadian government probably would have tracked me down and shipped me back…. 😂
magnum eyezzzzz 😍😍😍😍
They so fun 🔥🔥
Great fish! At 2 3/4” and 5/8ths ounce that is a stout ripper. Here I was wondering if a 2” ripper was to big to fish winter. I guess it’s only too big if they don’t eat it and they are eating….. Dude that shot with the overlay while he was fighting the fish was super awesome!!!! Your production has leveled up bud.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the video. Seems like on Winnipeg, it’s hard to be “too big” some days. It’s wild how those fish almost seem to prefer bigger presentations
What unit do you guys use to have the screen play/HDMI setup?
Gpsmap8610
Thanks! Great Video guys!
Damn dude thats a MONSTER. I caught 1 30" eye in my entire life at age 14...im 34 now. Great work!!
Thanks! Hopefully more to come for both of us!
What size rattle trap was that
This is a 5/8oz Rippin Shad
Great video Nick!
Thanks Brett
Great film choice
One of my absolute favorites! Brett fell asleep
Welcome to the north!
Love it up there!!
They only call it " Big Windy" for a reason.
That is the Twin City crowd that hits the river mouth, most get there around 3-4pm. Lots of jaggid ice from the multiple freeze up /break up this year to get over
You’re not lying!
In a sleeper for 3-4 days and didn't have one beer?
Not legal in Canada, and I’m not about to get busted breaking laws in a foreign country!
@@NickLindner gotchya!
I feel Brett's pain. Done that too many times! Lol I have that ice fishing itch even more now!
The itch is coming on hot!
What a fish!! Your excitement was so good! Just like a kid
Definitely a crazy fun/exciting moment.
Awesome fish! Congrats buddy 🎣
Thanks man!
Fish for burbots I love big burbot videos
Hopefully later this winter 👍
@@NickLindner awesome I love ur ice fishing videos
Nice
Thanks Scott
Great video! Was awesome meeting and chatting with you at the Wpg show. Drag Brett up with you next time! Hope you guys are able to get back up to MB for a fishing trip soon.
Hoping to make it happen at least once this winter!
Good chatting with you!
This is awesome, my buddies and I are going to look into it. When I’m March did you actually go and how late in the year does lake Winnipeg usually allow for this? Looks like a perfect spring break trip!!
I went middle of march, which was good, but honestly the whole month of march is awesome.
Thanks Nick!
nicks reaction to that first fish was hysterical, and that coffee press exploding LMFAO
Glad i could provide a morsel of entertainment lol
LOL! Thanks for doing what you do!@@NickLindner
How do you get the Livescope on your phone and tv?
For the tv you need a unit with an hdmi cord. For the phone, you need a unit that is compatible with active captain.
@@NickLindner ok isn’t it the older generation that can mirror with active captain?
@@neddertly33 you’ll have to do a little digging on google and garmin website to see if your unit will work. Some units have it, some don’t. And they usually add capabilities when they update their different unit models.
Wow Congrats, Welcome to the Dirty30Club
Thanks! I was sick of catching 29 inchers lol
lol Hek yeah 😊
So sick! Nice fish! Can't wait to hit the ice.
Same man!
