Today we are getting things moved in, I wanna show you the mood board for our living room, and we’re going to get started on bringing it to life. I think it’s actually hitting me that we aren’t going back to our house and we have this whole empty space to make into our new home. It’s a whole mix of emotions because it’s intimidating and it’s exciting and as I’m looking around I can just imagine all the things I can do here. We just gotta take it one day at a time..let's make this into a home!

That Sezane room reads "modern chinoiserie" to me, because of the golden art work, jewel tones, lux velvet juxtaposed with neutral grass cloth wallpaper.
My mom's house has a similar feel. Large Chinese watercolor of pond/waterfowl on the wall, the colors of which appear in the room: late mid-century modern camel colored L-couch, red velvet accent chair, wood coffee table similar to color of your new console, brass accent lamp.
You can wrap your cabinets with contact paper (make sure you buy a durable/washable one) and look at videos of how it’s done, it’s actually pretty amazing! Unless you are allowed to paint them. If so I’d definitely paint!!! You can also do the countertop (which you have done in the past) oh one more thing, I have never seen anyone wrap the inside of their cabinets, but i would do that because it would just look that much more real
if you want to change the cabinets in the kitchen, you can wrap them in colored contact paper or cover them in contact paper and paint that. Super renter-friendly and can totally change the look of your kitchen.
Walmart has some great wood toned contact papers that I have wanted to try on our cabinets!!

And Hey Tina I love all the furniture! You DID ask about how to lighten up the kitchen and if you look at the kitchen from the living room, where you can see the bar chairs facing the kitchen?,… it would lighten it up IF the frames of bar chairs were actually the lighter wood tone that you said they come in,.. similar to your console. Just try setting some kind of lighter wood in front of the bar and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I still love the ones you have though. I’m sooooo hss as ooh for you two!

I guess putting some rub and buff and/or black details after light staining would add more depth to the plain wood for the frame?

Hi Tina. The style of Sezane's home is Mid-Century Modern mixed in with Art Deco. Her walls and ceiling coves are more Art Nouveau which is what most Parisian homes are. Her seating and furniture, esp the leaf lamp, are art deco but that style bookshelf and jewel earth tones are a staple in midcentury. It's my fave style too. I love the warmth and textures you can add to make a cozy home.
It's going to be so much fun to see what you guys do with this new space. I'm sure you will come up with a way to warm up the kitchen by covering the dark gray!

I think you should leave the frame as is. I also have grey walls in my apartment that I cant pain, so I’ve warmed it up by mixing wood tones all over! So excited to see what you come up with for this space! ❤️

Quick change in the kitchen- try a warmer light temperature in the fixtures to "de-gray" the space a bit. Can't wait to see your new space as you rework it! Congratulations on a smooth closing on your Chicago house, too.

If you're into maximulism then you could put a like goldenrod on the walls, but if you like minimalism, then keep the walls as is, so the transition can be a little smoother. Although imo, goldenrod/mustard walls with white, or cream, accents would look amazing.

This is going to be so fun to see how you decorate. I was thinking staining the wooden frame; however, if you like mixed wood tones, that's great! As you stated, waiting until the wallpaper is up to decide. Is your TV the kind that you can show different scenery! That would be so wonderful!!

Question: where are your white cargo pants from around 11:48?
Tina, by looking at your mood board you need to unfuse a lot of color. I wish I could see the wallpaper. Painting the rest of the walls a taupe color or whatever beige would match the wallpaper would warm up the feeling and you can cover those grey cabinets with a really good contact paper from Amazon in either a color or design for a warmer feel too.
Maybe you can use peel & stick well paper & back splash in your kitchen to bring in other colors to neutralize the grey

What about adding fabric like wall paper around the kitchen in a warm rusty color? I think that something earth toned and red toned (rusty) would look beautiful with the grey kitchen. I think the grey can work if you give in to a moody atmosphere. Instead of taking away the grey. Replace the white parts with colour!
I would not stain it. I love to mix wood tones as well.
