This intro was truly epic, especially for the time! A brilliant continuation to such a gripping cliff hanger that left fans on the edges of their seats for 3 whole years!
The soundtrack to this game is Hollywood levels of epic, I remember just watching the intro over and over and cranking the sound up while my mom would pass by saying "wow that music is incredible... that's a video game?!"
@@rickysd_cali4379 My favourite song in the game is in level 7. After the introduction, it starts melo, but really picks up after completing the first objective!
When I say I LIVED on this game, for years...I LIVED on it. I remember the ROX clan, LOA clan and MS clan etc. I used to play with those guys a lot. I wish they would come out with a new version of this.
I couldn't take part on those parties but I also *lived* _in and for_ Descent. Since the _Destination: Saturn_ demo. But as long as Interplay still breathes it'll always be the biggest thorn on our sides.
The Warp drive installed by Dravis tried to kill him. But the Pyro saved him. It put him in stasis and it withstood the scorching sun as best as it could. Eventually, the Pyro GX was avenged.
Ooeehhh....Goosebumps...played it for hours and hours...and online with a friend.....What a game these days! Tweaking you PC to the fullest for best graphics! 16mb mem...DX50 chip....
facts, I've been trying to get descent 3 to work properly on windows 10 but even with a fan made patch it still performs wonky. Descent 2 has a great fan made engine called dxx rebirth that runs on windows 10 with upscaled graphics, 16:9 aspect ratio and you can play it using modern flightsticks!
The first 50 seconds has some really nice harmonies (morphing chords) that are epic. This game also has the coolest weapons in any game. I played it many years ago (just after it was released) and I played it now and it still is an epic game. The graphics have dated but the gameplay is really cool and different from any other game.
Coolest weapons for sure! I miss the multiplayer earthshaker pro maps a great deal. I was nearly a god on those. No game has since captured that feeling for me. Bouncing the impact mortar around a corner was great fun, too. Or giving people a bunch of shrapnel. Or a faceful of napalm blobs. Or sending them careening with the mass driver. Ahhh, the floating bits of ship.
Man… This intro still gives me goosebumps. Seeing the Pyro GX discarded sucks. Not for anything, but I really like the Pyro GX more than it's replacement in this game. Looks like we'll see the precursor to the Pyro GX and the Pyro GL in Ships That Fight Underground. The Torch.
Keep in mind this is set in the same Universe as Freespace... Or rather, it was the original intention for Freespace, The Great War, Silent Threat, and Freespace 2, to be apart of this universe. Imagine the use of the Hercules Mk I or the Athena Bomber being a part of this.
I liked Descent 1. I REALLY liked Descent 2. Descent 3 tried to stir up the formula a bit, but I much preferred Descent 2's style. Plus some of the enemies in Descent 3 were just plain frustrating - I spent 10 minutes trying to kill a few robots that kept dodging my shots, and I said screw it and quit - it wasn't even fun enough for me to keep trying. Probably a skill issue or just a matter of using the wrong weapon - but when a game frustrates me like that, it doesn't last. Descent has a spiritual successor called Overload, which supports VR. I tried it in VR, and yeesh, did it ever make me ill.
*OH' WHEN WILL THERE A NEW AND MODER DESCENT 3/4 MADE FOR US LOYAL FOLLOWERS, OR AT LEAST REMAKE IT TO BE PLAYED ON WINDOWS 10, COME ON GUYS, WE DON'T CARE FOR TODAY'S GAMES, NEVER DID!*
21 years later and this scene still hits me in the feels. Watching my beloved ship burn up in the star makes my eyes well up with tears.
Death, then a new beginning. That's the theme here.
For me, it's the first 30 seconds or so, that haunting female voice and chords speaking to a profound loss.
Long live the Pyro-GX
Me too. It's a beautiful intro.
Gave me the chills just as they brought down the giant buzzsaw thinking they were gonna slice him up into pieces.
“Poor material defender”. That statement pissed me off as a kid!
Was it really no surprise that the shady guy you were dealing with in the first two games, was the villain the whole time?
LOL! Dude, what a blast from the past with that quote lol

Good ol'days of truly epic soundtracks.
Level 2 soundtrack my favorite
When the little probe flies into the cockpit, the soundtrack gives me vibes of Total Recall

The pyro GX was a fine ship and she served me well. May she fly forever in whatever glorious Valhalla awaits such noble vessels.
I cried a little inside....seeing my favorite star fighter just tossed away
I cried on the outside. 😭
This is the equivalent of watching the Time Machine destroyed on Back to the Future III

Have you tried Overload on Steam?
@@geort45 I have not
@@deejaytrizay Go for Overload! Amazing successor to Descent - made by the same team.
Midnight 57 was the biggest in my time. Never made the cut but loved the scene

This game and its franchise was epic, games are not made this good any more, its always something that ruins it.
Miss PvP. Was the best game that actually to real skill to get good at.
memories of joy and sadness
Seeing the pyroGX being destroyed was my Arthur Morgan Moment.
*WE WANT DESCENT TO BE PLAYED TO TODAY'S PC's, don't let it fall through the cracks, we still love the game!*

In 5 years .... Descent 3 intro upscaled to 4k 🤭
Wow that looks gorgeous
I wish someone would make a modernization mod for this game that would make it not so damned hard to run now.

Freespace 2 was FANTASTIC... EPIC game... the scale of the fights, the stress, damn
I tried to record a good gameplay of the first levels, but I failed. Need more practice ^^
After sampling the clean version of this a bunch, the intro hits a little different than it used to.
Única coisa que presta nessa jogo: essa música da introdução. Congratulações aos compositores e músicos envolvidos.
Legendary.

I managed to kept my cool, making sure I had Vauss and Mass Driver ammo reserved for the elusive ones.
i got EXTREMELY angry ad dravis when i learned that HE was the one who did that to the material defender
I wonder if it’s the stasis gas that was making him groggy or if it was the radiation?

I am trying to upscale it to 2560x1440 or even 1920x1440 any idea what to change in which folder?
RIP Gx
Wished this game was given a Remaster, like how Metroid Prime got it.
Overload on steam is pretty good, same developers
@@phonkdontsleep7771 Yes. Saw gameplay of it.
