Big Ben Schroeder! The Freight Train! Agreed he is one of the raddest skaters ever. He also rides the best truck ever made, the Gullwing Pro III! Great vid Dan!
I feel like Dan is like the historian of awesome skating moments. Like he's always getting these awesome clips and pairing them with awesome commentary and it just works
His name is Ben Schroeder and he is as rad as anyone there. He just is older now and doesn’t skate as much. Back in the day he would rip that bowl apart!
Thanks for consistently posting Dan, you've gotten me into skating as a 24 year old. Having a ton of fun. By the way, I think you're a pro. You have a unique style, and I think hanging out with awesome skaters all the time might deflate your ego a bit. Much love man, keep riding and filming, you've influenced me and countless others.
I started blading at 23 and it was the best decision I've made in a while. It's so funny because I think skaters worry about age a lot but the only other guys I meet on rollerblades are like 35+, skating longer than I've been alive and goated. gives me hope
I watched this when it came out, but I must have missed the details. :D This session had everything. Locals, pros, international skaters, young bucks, young ladies, legends, GOATs, old guys that still rip, big airs, lip tricks, super long board slides and smith grinds, you name it. This is some great content.
That was rad!! I remember watching all the legends in their primes skating the combi in upland, and the del mar ranch. That pool is iconic... thank you for documenting that!!!
I was a combi local from around 2007 to the end. I’m sure you saw all the pool party banners; I was lucky enough to attend most of those. Just wanted to say thanks for all the footie, brought me back to those weeks before the contest each year when the pros descended and every session was insane. You’d show up to ride and be surrounded by the best skaters on the planet. Year-round we’d get to ride with legends like Lance, Bucky, Omar, Grosso (RIP) and Salba, while watching young guns like Borden, Lizzie, and Chris Russell come up. Kiko was a constant presence over the years, turning from super grom to what you saw in your footage-a complete master of that pool. Sounds like this was the first time you saw him there, dude, now you know. Anyways, thanks again for posting this, keep posting that transition stuff!
Yeah, Andy Mac is a legend. There was that recent vid where Dan didn’t seem to know who he is, which is surprising since he’s such a skate historian (but probs mostly street).
Great to see this park - even if that turns out to be the last time people skate it. I remember watching skaters from the gallery when it first opened. Thanks for showing so many runs.
I was thinking the same thing. You are hanging out with the coolest people. Cab is a legend. You're so lucky dude. Never forget these days. Thanks for the video. Stay awesome. Never stop shredding.
Dan, I think this marks that you've made it. You're going to have something amazing to hone in on to center your extraordinary ways, of being and filming. It makes me smile that there's someone out there that goes out there and lives, and people take you in, because you definitely are worth much more than what money brings. You are basically what makes my world go round right now, as I have nothing good going on other than music... and watching the skaters I wish I could meet and you're nearing the 100k subscriber mark.... I think the greatest thing is that you never mention or share that, You're just a guy that appreciates the art form of mastering physics for their self-propelled need for speed, craze, and the effort you put in makes me smile.
Dan would make a rad TM for one of the teams, not necessarily Powell be cause Deville already has that on lock but Dan would absolutely be great at putting together a mash of skaters. Would love to see what he could assemble, maybe the opportunity will present itself one day.
The Bam Margera trick attempted by guy in red plad shirt looked sick. Would be sweet to see that go down. All of this is sick. The bowl itself looks beautiful, the guy at 25:18 in white button up long sleeve when he lost his board and jumped back on so beast🤙appreciate this upload.
my favaotie part is the long frontside grind, tries to switch leg position, goes into layback but eventually gets sessioned out. That's when you know there is monster speed
Damn this is easily one of my favorite videos you’ve put out. Thanks for letting us 30-something east coasters live this stuff out vicariously. The “FUCK” you let out during that corner blunt was my exact reaction 😳
Awsome watching good bowl skaters. Their talent surpasses any other individual pro-sport in my opinion. Props to A-Mac shralping. I saw him slam so hard in Carlsbad the skate shook like Pendleton artillery practice. Super fun watching this footage-thanks!
Gold Helmet Ben Schroeder invented the trick at 23:54 & many more lip tricks on vert. He also beat Hosoi & Cab to get 1st Place in the 1988 Raging Waters Contest.
dan feels like the cool uncle of skateboard youtubers, everything is a little quirky but he aint afraid to get real with us when needed really commendable keep hustlin 🇦🇺🤙
Having grown up in Claremont, I was lucky enought to skate the og combi bowl in the '80s. I was 12-13 so not really rippin, dropping in the hip and pumping around below the coping was an achievemnet, but saw a few sick demos with the Powell team and others. Also got to skate the baldy full pipe a bunch since it was literally right up the road, and shot the line as a 13 year old grom. ah the glory days... As sick as the combi bowl and all the options were, watching Jason Catalano skate the Monster bowl was even sicker.
Thanks for filming this epic session Dan! 👊🤙 It was so much fun to at least get to see people skating the Combi one last time. Thankful for the times I've gotten to skate it in the past 🙏
Dan you raised a good point in this video that is a genuine come back to your own sentiments on not deserving a pro model board You mentioned that it would be wild to see people shredding on your deck and I think that is inevitable and what will make your shape stand out since you understand the nuances in deck shapes
He doesnt deserve a board and powell is making a big mistake following in footsteps of cariuma by sponsoring influencers rather than people who rip. Dan is good, but he's just about as good as your local skatepark hero. He's generic and nothing stands out other than his massive ego and I don't understand why powell is throwing away the notoriety of their brand over these social meida skaters
I remember seeing Cab at Sunnyvale skatepark about ten years ago. He was airing out of the pool so high it was really crazy to see! We smoked with Poncho Moler that day too in my friends truck it was pretty wild😜
13:23.. almost as high as Mathew with no hands.. insanity.. this was lit as it an get.. and this place got shut down.. I live on the other side of the country so I don’t know a whole bunch.. what a tragedy
"the specs are like: deep and really deep" ah yes, that's the kind of in-depth technical analysis of skatepark features that keeps me coming back to this channel lmao
Thank you so much for shooting and posting this! And as much as I appreciate your efforts here, does anybody know if a full stream of this is available anywhere? I'd have to think that they would have shot (and streamed) this like they did with the Vans Combi Pool contests.Yes, no? Also, I literally feel like I'm mourning the death of a good friend knowing that they're gonna demolish this place. The original Upland Combi long gone, and now the Vans Combi gone too! Another sad day for skateboarding
Not sure what he was doing, but several of his tricks he was landing WAY low on the transition. Like the big backside method and then he did a boneless? Both times, he landed on the bottom 1/3 of the transition. Compare his airs to Kiko, where Kiko was landing right under the tiling on his backside airs.
Ben Schroeder was there! I had a Ben Schroeder Dogtown pro board, waaaay back, it had a spoon tail, most boards were flat kick, it took adjustment but I dialed it in. I'm 56 still skate!
Love the video. So happy to see you’re so close to 100K!! Remember subscribing when you had around 12K, absolutely love to see everything you’ve become and accomplished Dan! ❤
So wait what's up with the Van's park? I've been wondering why I haven't seen a Van's Pool Party post covid. What's going on? PLEASE tell me the combi-pool isn't dying. The Van's Pool Party cannot die. It must live forever! So EXTRA thanks for posting this video, as it's pretty much a Combi party. I want to watch all five hours. \o/
I loved the Vans pool party contest too. But a BMXer had to go so big to break a light in the ceiling which cut his neck and bleed to death on February 25, 2020. RIP pool party.
Yo Dan I'm getting into skating in Baltimore again and I've heard you mention spots, I'm lame help me find the good ones! Thanks for the constant stream of inspiration
Haven't been there in 20 years (bmx), Carroll Park skatepark was always a fun little concrete park (might want to roll a few people deep, knew a few kids that got robbed their 20 years ago, can't imagine it being better). Charm City skate park is fun too. Quite a few ledges and manual pads right outside Baltimore Aquarium.
@@hazepheno925 Yep Baltamore Aquarium has a great set of Concrete there not originally intended for skating when I was there in 2009. I saw a skateboarder on it and a person on 4x4 skates when outside
Dan- "This guy scares me" Dude slams Dan- "That's why!" Haha jokes but damn bro some shredders, you got some good fair coverage for sure thanks for the footage was a killer watch.
20:26 I don't understand how he and others can land so softly on his knees from that height. How is it done? I understand that Tony Hawk recently broke his femur in a similar landing.
I've been in some crazy sessions where everyone's dropping in fast and it's hard to get a line but never, dropping in before people have picked themselves up to leave the bowl fast. 😮

Keiko is Gnarly AF . My Dudes I’ll with it .
Here's why "gold helmet" is rad: he's surrounded by sick talent going OFF, but he's still going to get his runs. I salute you, sir.
His name is Ben Schroeder and he is as rad as anyone there. He just is older now and doesn’t skate as much. Back in the day he would rip that bowl apart!
Schroeder has his own Love Letter from Vans & Grosso. He doesn’t have to prove anything.
I didn't understand why Dan was giving him guff. The guy has been skating since before he was born
