@@jus_sanguinis I've wondered the same thing! I guess the writers took his teleportation ability away so he could be trapped. Callisto couldn't teleport either at the end of Maternal Instincts when Xena trapped her in the cave.

Ares sure loves his spikey boulders i remember in young Hercules when Ares was fighting in life for a life against Hercules he used one back than too and got hit and went down the same way last time too. there should be a video college and count down on that how many times Ares gets hit by his own spikey boulders id so totally watch that. 🤣😂

He can shoot bolts of lightning, teleport, swords pass through him like he’s a ghost, et cetera. And he can’t just break down that false wall? Still great show and I remember this one from back in the day.
Not really! The cave is bewitched and keeps him weak. The magical eye of Hermès keeps him captive, and Xena with her Chakram is the only one who can free him according to the spell.
Ares could not shoot lighting bolts only Zeus could as he was given them by Hephaestus, Unlike the singular Abrahamic triune god, all lesser gods were not all powerful, knowing etc and in their respective mythologies were limited in some way, or are, if they indeed exist, even Zeus. they also depended on prayer for sustaining their power, where God is not subject to belief or prayer in that way. So here Ares is bound and weakened, we see him in 2000 still alive but less powerful

No, the Greek gods like all the pantheons were limited, even Zeus, and Ares didn't have the power of lightning. In mythology the Greek gods were born and thus could die and their power was based on prayer and worship. The singular god as in the Biblical/Abrahamic one of today is extremely different and supreme by comparison, that is being all creative, all everywhere and all powerful etc, and outside of everything and not subject to it

What a beautiful plot hole riddled mess this show was.
Ares is still a god 2000years later even though he is a mortal and i think dies at the end of the show.
The early seasons 1-3 were great. Then for some reason the gods got majorly depowered and were able to be killed through so man dumb things.
...of course this can also be an alternate timeline which would neatly explain everything :)
I don't think episodes like this, the ones set in more modern times, were actually considered canon. Pretty sure they were just one-offs with stand-alone plots and not officially part of the series' overarching mythology. Though, I could be wrong about that.

Ares never died on the show. He teleported off "Path of Vengeance" and that was the last time he was seen in ancient times. In modern time, he was last seen in "Soul Possession" and he had his powers. Kevin Smith died in real life. So sad!
Hey guys does anyone know what service airs xena and hercules? I have searched every streaming service available in belgium but its nowhere to be found. Wich baffles me, because Xena & hercules were always on our regular TV stations.

😕 I wonder how Xena trapped Aries in there in the first place? When last saw Aries, he almost started a war, which Xena stopped. And for Xena, she died at the series finale. So did Xena get resurrected later? Or was it a face off between Aries and Gabrielle?

Well, just a theory, Xena did die. However, she saved Eve. There is a bloodline. Could it be that Eve eventually married, had kids and so on and so on?

There are quite a few plot holes in this. We see Ares is out of this later on in the time line. He bugs the immortal Hercules a few times in the 90s or 00s. We also see him fight Xena in Harry's body years later as he is her new life in modern day. Not to mention the already metioned explaination of how she could have trapped him in the first place after the show ended with her death and becoming a spirit.

I think it is because he was literally trapped in the tomb without the ability to teleport and when Xena came back he wanted her to help him escape by messing with her! Eventually he did though get out!
That Eye of Hephaestus was holding him/trapping him. I guess the viewer is supposed to assume it’s blocking his powers too

I feel like a reboot can be Daughter of Xena. It's where Xena was resurrected again, and gave birth at a late age, so the daughter lives in a far future time period and has little memory of her mother due to the age gap.
