So much of it is simple lead mechanics - especially with the slip lead. If there's always tension, the dog has no opportunity to make better decisions on their own. It's about creating those moments so the dog can avoid the pressure by making the right choice. That's where the learning happens - "oh right, I ignored the dog and there was no tension or stress from the lead, I wonder if that always happens..."
Stumbled across your videos while looking for tips on how to get my rescue dog to walk properly on a lead as well as issues with others dogs in the park. My dog is an eleven year old rescue dog from Romania and I have had my dog for just over 3 months now. After watching several of your videos it’s a eureka moment. All of it makes sense & the videos & instructions make perfect sense & made me see things I hadn’t seen before. Good videos 👍👍👍
Excuse my ignorance. How is this resolving the issue of reactivity rather than avoiding the problem altogether. To me it seems as though the owner is the one being trained not the dog. Training the owner to avoid the problem rather than changing the dogs behaviour?
Done. I like your videos, however I have noticed that most of the dogs you work with are big dogs. Do you work with little dogs too? I have a bichon Cross shitzhu and he is extremely reactive when I'm out with him and it's frustrating as he doesn't take treats when he is out so I can't use that to distract him. However I am wondering if a slip lead might work. I do really enjoy seeing your videos and would love to be able to walk my dog without him reacting to all dogs we go past.
Great to see a practical training as always.
I love how ur rottie started to come to heal when you said it to the staffie. Ur rottie is lush 💕
Your video helped a lot. It makes me feel like I understand about a dog better. Thank you so much

Agree....but look at the handler...he is making the leash stiff , possibly causing the dog to react ...just saying
