    *I sang at the Met during the Inagural and second seasons (66-7, 67-68), and listening to you has brought back **_SO_** many memories! I am watching you with my wife, and laughing/agreeing hysterically, and she's interested because another human being gave almost the same description I did (she always thought I was full of it, or exaggerating!).*
    *I remember Aida well, I had a tremenous amount of fun on that! And Turandot. And so many others!*
    *Thank you for sharing this on camera! There are more people than you realize - from so many different walks of life - learning and laughing from it!*

    Will you be my new best friend?? I stumbled across this video and I had to go watch all your other ones too. Such great information and you're so delightful. Maybe someday I'll have a Met debut!

      Sure, best friends it is! Sorry I've been neglecting my channel. I'm writing a book and while I'm really excited about it, it has been taking up my video editing time.

    Really enjoyed hearing your account of what must have been a very awesomely terrifying experience! but let me just tell you that you don't hear crickets or get thrown fruit at the Met. if you are Domingo, maybe you can get thrown flowers.

    I have a technical question for you. When we talk about narrowing focus through the passagio for a female singer, does a male singer use the same technique when moving through his passagio? Specifically a baritone. Tia.

    • @jacksonkerr2095
      @jacksonkerr2095 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a baritone myself, I think I can help here. The technique would be essentially the same for a Baritone and a soprano. As you move from one register to another, focusing singing exercises on the part of the vocal register where the vocal break is can help to smooth transitions through the passagio. Even working simple scales across the break and back can help train the voice to navigate that part of the voice smoothly.
      The key is to train the voice to become comfortable enough with that part of their register so that the singer can relax and glide through that part of their register without any awkward breaks.
      I hope this helps.

    You are singing Aida now: what will you sing in 10 years' time? Brünnhilde, Abigaille?

    • @exitstageleft2379

      I've been singing Aida for 10 years now. I have no plans on singing either of those roles you mentioned at the moment. Honestly, if I'm offered something, sing through it and it's comfortable, I accept. If it isn't comfortable, I don't. I do not subscribe to the fact that you get older and therefore you have to transition to heavier rep. If my voice goes that way, so be it, if not, then that's okay as well. Aida has more piano singing than people think. I believe because of the Triumphal scene people think it's a huge sing. I've performed 12 Verdi roles now. I would say Aida is one of the easier ones for me. It just depends on the voice.

      Thank you so much for your kind response. You understood my point: be careful, agents don't know (most of them) a thing about music or the voice, and accepting heavy roles that young will be a challenge. Keep lyric roles in your repertoire and sing them as often as possible, including Mozart ones! The day you'll experience difficulties (I hope not!) singing, say Fiordiligi, Contessa, Donna Anna or Donna Elvira, then it will be time for brooding over. You are too talented to spoil this God's treasure! And of course I do not expect you to sing neither of those two roles I've mentioned soon .... I would avoid any Wagnerian roles with the exception of magnetic Senta, Elisabeth or Elsa. Best wishes.
