I've listened to and enjoyed TMBG before, but I have never heard this song. This is the de facto way for me to listen to it from this day forward. I've watched it way too many times. Thank you.
My theory is that this song symbolizes cults. The man who leads the cult gets praise from the people he brainwashed. When the lyrics talk about how he destroyed respect and the people who'd look at him in the eye means that how people he loved left him because his actions. Kiss me son of God symbolizes the cult members praising the man. The man talks about creating an empire which represents creating the cult. "That you love me, and I love me" symbolizes the narcissism in the cult leader.
@@dragongirl2032_ Fitting, it's great! When I was 12, I loved this song, it was the best song! I wanted to imagine that this symbolizes a cult. Imagined a crazy scenario that I was born in a cult, (the year is 1978) The cult worships a god that forbids backtalk and blasphemy and sins and has other strict rules for the cult members, it's also a large cult too - the cult members also try to spread "The truth" (Which made people think they're weird and the cult gets on news). I imagine myself in the cult who worshipped the god and tried to spread "the truth". At age 11, I realize the meaning of the word cult and I grow angry about being raised in a pseudo religion-like cult for my whole life. When I'm alone I'd wear a flapper dress and have candy cigarettes while singing the song. When one cult member catches me, they scold me and tell me that I've commit a sin and I should repent. One day at age 12 I escape the cult and wear a red dress like it's 1928 and seldom "smoke" candy cigarettes while talking rudely about the cult by singing the song and creating skits that mock the cult. (Candy cigarettes were pretty popular then) when they do festivals.
@dragongirl2032_ I also imagine lots of things! I imagined another crazy scenario; the scenario it's about the cult (The cult is called the followers of the Messiah) when they react to me wearing on the flapper dress and have candy cigarettes. The leader of the cult (Who I imagine is my father). He's like "What are you wearing?! O'my, I can't believe it! Messiah! Give us guidance to who poisoned my daughter!" and the cult members are glaring at me in judgement. And I'm like "Uh uh! I- Uh...!" trying to make an excuse. (Lol weird mind Hahaha.)

TMBG should adopt this as the official music video
This song fits the 1972 Once-ler and Clay Puppington.

Idk, I think it fits pretty well as talking 'bout rich people in today's society, like Elon Musk and such. Though they are pretty cult-like lol

They capitalist society and the systems that sustain it, such as religión, traditional family and the paternalists fit perfectly too.
