- ‘Inside Out 2’ Review: The Best Pixar Movie In Years - My kids are now 17 and 14 and that landscape has seen some massive changes, especially since so much has changed between 2015 and 2024. The intervening years have seen major political change, a global pandemic, big family changes at home, and of course the transformation of my beautiful little kids into, well, teenagers. It’s pretty fitting that Pixar should come out with Inside Out 2 nine years later, and the movie hits all the right beats. As fun as it is for kids, this is a movie that will delight parents more. When Riley wakes up one morning to her first full-blown puberty-induced hormonal rage, snapping at her mom and barging out the door, we are given a glimpse of the mother’s emotions. “Well that’s a preview of the next ten years,” one emotion says to another. I laughed out loud. I also cried quite a bit during this movie. Then again, I’m a cryer. It doesn’t take much. Still, this is easily the best Pixar movie I’ve seen in many, many years and in some ways I think it outshines the original, if only because it tackles the far more complex emotions teenagers (and their parents) grapple with and does it so well, with verve, humor and plenty of poignant moments. Of course, it distills “the next ten years” into just one weekend at hockey camp. The loss of a sense of self that Riley experiences, as Joy and Sadness and Disgust and Fear are replaced with Anxiety and Embarrassment and Envy and Ennui (and occasionally Nostalgia) is profound, but it’s all confined to an hour-and-a-half movie. As a parent, I know how this really plays out: Over years of angst and rebellion and lots of scary moments. Teens have to come to terms with their own changes, but parents have to also learn to change and to let go and to venture forth into uncharted territory that can be both incredibly terrifying and humbling.

I love how this movie shows that Anxiety is just doing her job while also showing WHY she should never be the “leader” in emotions.

Honestly, when Anxiety realized it was Joy, then she started looking at the screen while saying it like that made the hair on my skin stand up in a scared nervous way.

I will admit, I sobbed hard in the theater watching this movie.
I’ve had GAD majority of my life due to both possible genetics and stuff in my past that heightened my anxiety to severe levels. I’ve had many panic attacks before and constant worries over things I couldn’t control, or feelings like “I’m not good enough” “others have it harder, why am I feeling sorry for myself?” And “I can’t do anything right.” So the scene of Joy looking over the emotions with “I’m not good enough” repeating or the entire panic attack scene hit me incredibly hard due to how realistic it felt.
Props to this movie, it was a great watch
May not apply to you, but I was initially diagnosed with GAD, and only learned I had PTSD + autism after moving out of the triggering environment, which was school 😅

🍒 TikTok people used to hate Sadness since she was being kinda messy and Joyacting selfishly forcing Riley to have a false Happiness.
Now they make Anxiety a Villain because she tries to change Riley so that she grows up properly without danger, however, discarding the "problematic" emotions.
We don't really have villains here, just different but VERY selfish points of view on the character's part. Joy learned the importance of Sadness and the influence of other emotions that not everything is just joy.
Anxiety went into crisis when she tried to fix things that were out of her control, but as Anxiety itself defines:
"Obsessive emotion of not being able to handle things that are not in your power, even though it seems like you can solve them, This will only make you more in agony until you lose your mind"

Anxiety's mistake is that she's making riley imagine bad scenarios at a time when she should be sleeping

Idk if this right or not, but if joy couldn't stop enxiety and she still keep pushing riley to protect her, but little that she knows, the worst scenario is after riley's got home, she could k*lled herself because too much presure on her because of enxiety. And of course it would be the end for all of them too.
I don’t get why people see anxiety as a villain because I don’t get why when people make a character like death from Puss in boots or anxiety people are always like they’re the villain and it’s kind of tiring because I’m like no they aren’t just doing their benefit all the time
I think they're confusing an antagonist for an actual villain. They simply don't know the difference. Anxiety is not a villain. But she is definitely an antagonist; an obstacle that the protagonists need to overcome. You can be an antagonist WITHOUT being evil or villainous.

@@inkfernado9114 well she was doing her job. Or trying her best to do her job. Anxiety is a'lot like fear in the sense that it keeps us alert and on our toes. It keeps us diligent. It's when it consumes us that it starts to actually be a major problem.
Because Anxiety didn’t care about Riley. She only cared about avoiding the projections SHE came up with in the first place.

More over in real life I personally can feel that when we angry, we don’t care and fear of anything , we don’t overthink when we angry, we only focus for justice and solve the problem that make us angry. So i think in that moment anger kick out anxiety

I agree! While anxiety is looked upon as a bad emotion, it actually serves as a means of protecting ourselves in our thoughts and actions from the dangerous and unknown. I think the movie did an excellent job in portraying anxiety and why it's still important to keep it under control. Nice pfp btw :).
Nah I respectfully disagree. Anxiety is TERRIBLE, the same people perceive it as a negative emotion are the same ones whose quality of life is damaged by it. I mean you said you’re self you’re going to live less years because of it lol.

That feeling of everything absolutely racing through your head a million times per second all at once genuinely happens like that, and it’s the one of the most unforgiving, unleashed, and uncontrolled emotions you can have. Had this happen to me when I lost my job last year and It was really excruciatingly difficult to control when I had that anxiety attack.

I’ll like to see the embodiment of depression in part 3. Depression is not an emotion but it’s something that can easily take over the mind. It’s something that grows endlessly if you choose to ignore it, it can also kill you.
I thought this was already in inside out 1? When riley ran away the console turned dark, and fear said they can't make riley feel anything

so they felled the need that the old emotions were not needed
