You must be a good Mom. Your daughters make you knitting journals and go hiking with you! Thanks for the videos and links.

I recommend that knitters keep a journal. I've always crochet but took up sock knitting a few years ago and stepped away from it. Recently I found a pair of socks I had made and really liked and was able to look in my journal and was able to find the exact pattern, yarn, needles and so on I had used! I also like to track mistakes, or things I liked that maybe I changed about the pattern. By writing it down I can remember it and not make the same mistakes or remember the changes and not have to re-invent my previous experience.

A bit late to the party, but love the journal. I put all my mom's patterns of things she knit and crocheted and found pictures of my daughter wearing the outfit! Then I was sort of stuck and didn't advance but your books are inspiration to continue. I have learned to keep a photo of all the stuff I have made in the past 13 years (since retiring) and one day will create an album as one day I am sure that Pinterest will disappear along with the floppy disks!! . My mom was the queen of making swatching and sadly, I don't know what to do with all of the laces and granny squares!! not to mention the patterned ones that I have no idea how she made them. So far I have gathered them all together thinking of making a pillow cover - too many different unmatching colors! - putting them in a book is very hefty! One day an inspiration will appear!! thanks for the video

I've been doing the same thing with all my knitting, crocheting and quilting projects for years. Great memories

First time I've seriously thought about doing this after making too many things over the years. I always forget to even take a picture! Thanks

I keep my knitting journal in a old black and white composition notebook, but I LOVE that your daughter made you these. Very nice! Now I feel the need to up my game with my journal. Thanks for sharing!

I would be lost without my journal. It keeps track of what gifts were knitted for whom, when I start and finish (I’m slow), notes if something in the pattern confused me, did I like the yarn?, etc. Your journal is full of good ideas which I can use to further advance my knitting history. Thank you.

My niece, who is very knit-worthy, gave me a knitting journal for Christmas. I've been knitting for 30 yrs and never even thought of doing that. I take photos & make notes all over the paper pattern. I've been using the knitting journal & like it. As for Ravelry - you made a very good point. Look what happened to Craftsy. It changed when it was sold. The same could happen with R.

Thank you so much for sharing!! I've been crocheting and knitting on and off for 9 years and never thought of creating a journal to keep track of my projects/wip's!! And yes, as many times that the internet has gotten viruses, breaches, blackouts etc., I SO agree in having a physical journal plus you can pass it down to friends, daughters, granddaughters, nieces and yes even the males in the family lol!!❤️❤️❤️🥰🙏🏼

Jana, you are so down to Earth and so inspiring. The journals handstitched by your daughter are very special, and I would love to know how to make one. Earlier this year, I came across an unused journal and decided to start a knitting journal to keep track of my projects. I have been feeling down in the dumps becaue of COVID and my husband suffering from end-stage heart failure. I haven't touched my kniting projects for months but your video inspried me. Thank you so much.

I keep a notebook of 'hints' and advice I pick up along the way. I tend to scribble notes on the printed pattern, I have baggie of swatches. But I really like your journal idea and the separate binder with swatches. All WAY more organized and less scattered. Thanks for the ideas!

Love the practical idea of the A5. I often get overwhelmed with the three ring binders and they are just not portable if I wanted to share projects with someone. I do like the photo’s and gives me a great excuse to get one of the those camera;s that take small photo’s. Loving the stamp idea.

Wonderful journals! I’ve often wondered about all the info, and the time it takes, for all the details on each project that is entered on Ravelry. There can be 20, 50 and more project entries for any given person. That “What if...” question regarding the longevity of Ravelry always enters my mind. But I must say, it has been a great source of info, while it lasts, when looking for projects to knit! Thanks for your suggestions. Always good to have a backup!

I like the idea of the stamp. I have a journal that I made out of a spiral bound sketchbook. Mine has been handwritten and I add a snippet of the yarn in addition to pictures.

HiJana : I keep track of all my projects on Ravelry. As a back up, (easy method) I PRINT all my project notes right from my Ravelry Project pages once my project is complete. Just go to your project page and use Control Print. It prints everything includes all the notes, needles, Yarn used and colour pictures etc. I store these hard copy printouts in a 3-ring binder as my backup. It saves me from writing notes twice. I like your idea of Journal writing too!

I totally agree. I’m more secure in my knitting knowing I can physically hold my pattern while I work on a project. Also some doctors’ offices don’t have WiFi or phones are not allowed and a paper pattern travels so easily. I love the journal also. 🤗♥️

Delightful and informative video, thanks Jana for sharing! 🤗
Wondering if putting parchment paper between the photos that touch when your booklet is closed would help them not stick together? The sprocket photos are something I’ll look at for sure also your stamp info! 🤓

I love your journals! I try, but have never been successful at journaling. I do like the idea of using a stamp, so many times I forget one important bit of information... then I want to kick myself in the A**.....

I use google docs but I also write in a journal once I finish the pattern. You never know with google either, I have a couple email addresses I made that I am now completely locked out of DVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE RIGHT PASSWORD. If you use gmail, be sure to never lose the phone number you signed up with!! If you don’t sign in for a year they will lock you out.
