@@98SE Because in the game, different instruments start playing based on how many of the 4 musicians you collected in the story (aka if you collect the piano dude, the piano track starts playing), the rest of the game doesn't do this
IT IS recorded, but separated in channels, mainly because the channels adds themselves depending on the progress. Only the acoustic guitar sounds like synth.
More dynamic music in games equals more deconstructed videos like these btw, THIS is why you should be excited by that prospect, having music be able to be deconstructed like this is useful to everyone regardless of standing, you love to see it and you get to analyse why you love something, lest me be very analytical about why I love this track rather than my base “it’s neat” approach.
I agree! Especially when Nintendo uses deconstructed music in their games! Musical Spoiler alert! Nintendo did this with Super Mario Bros. Wonder where if you stand still, the music will lose some instruments. Didn't like it at first but it kept me playing so I think it's alright!
This is the first game on this channel in a while that's made me go WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUCK to this extent, I would have never guessed this game did that, other than the SMB ground theme remix, congrats on a Switch video and a 4K vid!
i am a pianist and arranger and I transcribed this song when the game first came out. Yesterday, i revisited my arrangement and improved upon it for a full day. then youtube recommend me this video...... my work would be so much easier only I knew there is a video like this.......
Man, Channels 1 and 5, arguably the most recognizable parts of the song, just don't sound complete together. They sound like two streams of music that are just happening to play at the same time, instead of one song. Goes to show that every instrument and player in a song is equally important.
This video is excellent. This one of the more unexpected deconstructions after seeing the Mario kart Wii and Mario Galaxy videos I thought there was nothing else that could top the more rare deconstructions.
This is so cursed and SO beautiful, I love it so much! I really didn't see it coming, and still don't get why they did this. I actually fired up the game when this video first came out(2 days ago lol), and visited New Donk City to see if I could find any dynamic per-channel volume changes, but couldn't find anything. maybe i missed something. Having the track separated like this comes with the advantage of the developers being able to more dynamically change the flavor of the track, by changing volumes of different channels, reacting to gameplay changes, for example. I couldn't notice anything like this in-game. However, it comes with the disadvantage of added cost on both storage space, because it's FIVE tracks instead of just ONE that need to be stored, and more cost on the CPU, because those FIVE tracks ALSO need to be MIXED in REAL TIME!!1!1 So I have no idea why they did it like this. But it makes this deconstruction possible, which is wicked sweet! ❤
If you haven't seen it already, its only really used in fresh game where you haven't met the musicians yet. Channel 1 is the base track for daytime, and the other 4 channels represent each musician, so their respective channel is added to the song when you meet them
I had a feeling this song was dynamic, so this is really cool. Iirc, Nintendo Published games from the Late Wii U-Now fully use streams instead of sequences. You’ll probably going to enjoy BOTW’s Rito Village and MK8DX’s Track Selection Theme.
Man that horn section on Channel 5 is so damn tasty, those block chord voicings (I think) are just so goood. Not to mention how hard the piano and bass goes, love it
Fun fact in the story New Donk City theme is kind of is deconstructed before getting the band members and during the quest you can gradually hear the theme constructing
Orj, I know you said that it’s streamed. but can you elaborate more on what’s the difference between sequenced music and streamed music, so that people won’t have an aneurysm.
Sequenced music is pretty much the equivalent of midis where it can be separated by muting the channels. (It's also accompanied with a soundfont.) Streamed music is like CD music where it's just a single audio file that can't be separated. The video above is a special case, it's streamed but separated in layers thanks to the musicians that you meet throughout New Donk City. So I had the opportunity to make a deconstruction!
Dude that is so fucking cool. I didn’t know that this was possible. I’m ok with waiting for a few days for bangers like this. Are there any other songs that could be deconstructed this way. I know it’s streamed, but there are different sections that can be deconstructed.

@@Orj_Osc oh ok. i didnt know they were separated in mario odyssey. my guess is that they made multiple, high quality, tracks play at once instead of having one single track with good quality, which would have increased the total quality

Well, it can be both a live recording and multiple tracks all synchronized with each other at the same time. With a click track, you can do that.

Channel 1: Piano, tambourine, shaker, and trombones
Channel 2: Drumset (brush kit)
Channel 3: rhythm electric guitar (left channel), acoustic guitar, jazz guitar (both right channel)

Freindship - lets not talk about it
