My Mazda CX5 had a blocked DPF . Mazda main dealer did a regeneration and changed engine oil and filter. Cost £300. A few weeks later DPF warning light came on again. This time the same Mazda dealer said that an exhaust sensor was faulty. Had to wait for two weeks to get new sensor fitted as part needed to be ordered from another country and DPF regeneration again. Another £300. So I am very, very impressed with this video and your skills as a mechanic re finding the cause of the DPF getting blocked. Excellent first class work, if only the garage that I went to was so good. Well done.
You just uploaded this video in right time, it helped me to solve the issue on 2013 mazda 6. Dealer quoted customer for new dpf however dpf wasn't been blocked in our case it was the exhaust pressure sensor which shorts out when up to temperature and dropping reference voltage causing random fault codes to come on and disturbing communication between control units. Happy to say the upgraded sensor does the job and car is back to life.
@@lm0788 I had intermittent fault for exhaust back pressure sensor which actually triggered other faults ,long story short the sensor was short to ground when is hot and dropping 5v reference voltage. I didn't had expensive tools to diagnose fault so used two mechanical pressure gauges to check dpf back pressure
the car suddenly starts to shake, it looks like one cylinder is not working, an excess of gases (or fuel) is created in the engine, I can stop it by slowly raising the revs over 3200, at such revs I need to drive 4-5 minutes, then everything is ok again. I have already spent over € 2,000 on that engine, turbine replacement, air intake cleaning, MAF sensor, and some other sensors and valves ...! Basically a hundred times I went to a Mazda service because of a problem they didn’t solve (I always pay for diagnostics again), they say everything is OK !? The oil is leaking on the engine, I personally tried to remove that sensor from the video from that hose, but the oil is coming out of that hose ??? Is everything ok with them ??
I always drove diesels, till i bought a focus 1.6tdi, the hassle was endless ended up scrapping it, so went back to petrol after 25 years for £30 tax car . Nice video Leon
love that scan tool, measure pressure with separate tool, excellent idea, would never thought of that,i,just stick to the scan tool live data, now i know what a motionless sensor value means lol, have seen that before as well, and dint know what to do,you have a sharp mind and problem solver ,keep up the good work, learn some think every day
Great job but then again he doesn't need me to tell him that. I just wish he lived on my back step. Because you've got tradesmen that know what to do but cut corners and you the customer wind up paying for it 👍🏿 top job mate
Excellent video, one very quick question, if there is some exhaust pressure coming out of the exhaust gas pressure sensor tube is it worth cleaning it, if so, what would you use?
1052mBar is the pressure in my 1.6 citroen. No errors. Car drives absolutely fine. Would you say that it is something with the sensor etc, not DPF? Pressure stays constant at all times, even engine off
I like how you check things rather than just replace parts based on a diagnostic test Leon ,too many main dealers do that. What is your favourite make to work on for access and good design. The lad I use loves anything German, hates anything French.
Hi Leon, love the videos really helpful and always explained well, can i ask what scantool you use, theres loads out there ive tried but that one looks fairly straightforward.
what can cause diesel engine with dpf to smoke when engine warm? Dpf is not blocked.I disconnected both dpf sensor pipes and when engine warm it smokes. I disconnected the sensor still smokes when engine warm. it doesn't smokes when engine cold.
Excellent video I have a insignia and been having dpf problems is it true that if I turn my car off while it's doing a regen it dumps diesel into the oil
Did you end up doing a couple of regens to get the pressure down to 2 mbar. I've got one at the moment with the same codes and the same back pressure on idle, this ones only on 63k and just been serviced so I'm happier to regen it once I've sorted the exhaust pressure sensor issue.
A lot of people think because you read the fault codes and then can clear them that the car is fixed ! Spent a fun filled friday with a diesel and finally got it going after using the Forte cleaning machine it could do just above walking pace it was that blocked . Some people do not read the handbook and some want an econimical vehicle to drive 3 miles to work a day ...buy a bicycle cheaper quicker and you will get fitter and you then dont come and say to me that I only pressed thd reset button. 😤😤😤😤
I have a 2011 CRV that I know are famous for dpf issues. I have had a clean done now after two light on limp home episodes. To be fair they were nearly 30k miles apart. Strangely they both occurred in cold conditions after 200 mile blasts up the motorway cruising at 70 mph with cruise control on. On both occasions as I lifted off to come off at my junction the lights have come on. I have had cleans that have resolved the issue the first lasting 30k miles as I say. The second time Honda did a regeneration for me and it lasted only 200 miles and required a second chemical clean. If as I suspect, it is ash build up and as adblue is urea solution and so acidic, do you think that it would be a good candidate to use to blow into the dpf to fiz away the ash? Is this perhaps the only difference between a dpf and an adblue system?
Hello. With a clean DPF what is the value of mbar at 2000 rpm or 3000 rpm . I have an issue with my car (Tucson 2015) and the code is P2003 and message Check exhaust system. The dif pressure sensor of DPF measures a value of 0.75 hPa at idle and increases if I accelerate. I think there is nothing bad with my DPF. Many thanks!
Hi there. I have got a vw passat 2015 2l diesel. I have got a code coming up P208400 Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor. My mechanic has changed all 3 sensors but engine management light has come up again. He even regenerated the dpf via tail pipe. He said the dpf is clear but I have high amounts of oil in the engine. The dip stick is full of oil. But my car is not in limp mode and neither does it have any pick up problem- I have very poor mpg. I have changed the turbo 2 months ago too. Please i would be very grateful if you could give some of your valuable advise , suggestions or any input .
Leon You need to do some vid’s on the fault code side of things for us unfortunate owners of the mk8 transit custom’s. “Bring back my Mk6” all is forgiven & I miss you 😂
a word of warning , be aware when testing the exhaust backpressure with that tool. on similar car I totally destroyed a cheap 1 bar max scale pressure gauge. it went off the scale and turned arround further , the back pressure (and temperature) was insane. if I had tested that with that fancy tool you have , I would need another pressure transducer :) thanks for sharing , top job!

Hi mate impossible to say will need to have error codes would need to diagnose it properly it could be anything from a simple sensor to thousands of pounds DPF filter
Yes mate they do but when they are blocked and they have issues that they cannot perform the procedure which causes the DPF to block over a period of time
@@soy1941 hi, I had the same issue with my car and I solved it by changing that sensor. I did some research and I found that Mazda made 3 versions of that sensor ( the original + 2 upgrades): a) the original: the one found on the car (the black one); b) 1st upgrade: the one with yellow/ red, the new one (from the video) original part number SH0218211C (on the sensor is written: SH02CK5204) and c) 2nd upgrade: original part number SHY618W00 (it has a complete kit, half of the sensor is made of metal).
I don't like DPFs because a injector that cost you lets say 30 Euros or a intake seal or a oil rings brake something that costs 800 to 1 grand it's stupid and yes they save life's or so we're told just give me a old simple diesel engine I'll keep my Massey Ferguson 135 any day

Or will it block eventually regardless?
