Abusive shoes... I hope I remember that the next time I pull out my BEAUTIFUL purple sparkly (and very uncomfortable) dance shoes. (Duh...I also have them in teal.)
I am impressed with how good you were at decluttering your old shoes. I still have one disco dress from college. The dress is now 44 years old and is a 1970s size 7 (about a size 0 or 2 in today’s sizes). But I love dragging it out for laughs to shock people. My husband remembers when I used to wear that dress to go to dances in college

I decluttered shoes recently - and promised myself to never wear heels over 2 inches, because no matter the chunkiness - nope, can’t walk in them.
... but the sheet music is calling to me from its Forgotten Files now.

I have used EcoATMs to recycle my old phones and iPad. They disable everything and you can get some cash back depending on the item that you are recycling. Just a suggestion. ☺️

We just finished decorating for Christmas. I had so many decorations left over the decision was made to get rid of them. I’m talking about at least 4 to 5 very large totes to either give away or throw away. In fact, my husband’s cousin came to visit and she left with 5 brand new shirts and 5 caps. She is going through chemotherapy and losing her hair. I understand about the shoes. I have a pair of absolutely beautiful red patent heels that are very uncomfortable. It just dawned on me that they been in my closet for over 10 years. I don’t even wear heels anymore!
So amazing that you are a professional organizer and have moved a lot recently. Yet you still had to declutter quite a bit . It shows we all are human and need to make a conscious effort of decluttering

The walkman! I used to walk a couple of miles after school (like 9th grade), and I always had to carry one pocket of tapes and one pocket full of batteries for the walkman.

I still miss the green velvet peep toe heels that EXACTLY matched the green of my glittery Messiah gown. And hurt like a….yeah. But they were SO CUTE.

I just sold the iPods I bought for me and my husband in 2005. That was HARD but they didn’t work at all any more. I took good photos of them. Having digital photos makes it easier to let go of things.
I have been motivated to tackle some of our "storage" items in a random closet. I have downsized to two totes.

I had a version of those yellow Seychelles wedges, but in brown! I had to go to three stores to find my size, but it was worth it because I wore a hole in the heel! Thanks for the blast from the past!

Thanks for the motivating content, Kay! I think for me, one of the biggest challenges in the decluttering process is the next step -- where does it all go? I don't want to just throw things in the garbage (I know that's not what you do, either), but often I don't know where to take much of it -- like electronics, old binders/folders, etc.. So it sits in the pile for a while, and the temptation is to just shove it somewhere out of sight again. I'm not sure if this is as much of a challenge for others, but a follow-up video on the next step would definitely be interesting to me! :)

Great video! I feel like I've been constantly decluttering for 3 years now and nearing a more ideal situation as to how I want my home to look. Of course, it never really ends because items stop being useful and you bring other items into your home. But I think I am nearing a more manageable phase that is more peaceful. I also got rid of shoes that I didn't like not that long ago, I rather be comfortable than stylish. lol
I could have written the exact same comment - been on this journey for about 3 years, too. It's so good to be in a place where you can say you don't need to declutter a space anymore! It is a constant redo, but it's so much more manageable now.
Totally used the daylights out of my Walkman in college, and then a fancy CD Walkman that had the special skip protection.
Also loved that Clover was checking on your progress as you decluttered. 💕❤

Great job on your closet. All your cords etc were already pretty organized. Much better that the "system" (and I use the term lightly) that my husband uses. He's more 'of a "Hey, I think I can fit a couple more in this box. What do they go to? I don't know but I might need them someday" kind of guy.

I remember I recently tossed out all my uncomfortable shoes I ended up with 5 pairs 1 black bootie the rest are sneakers and since then I got 2 more pairs of sneakers I am all about cute comfort too
This was definitely inspiring and you gave great advice. I think my favorite was in substance don't get attached to things that people give you. They are not the thing. I have that trouble. I also think that my biggest problem is just starting. It all seems very overwhelming when I see how much I have to do.

The hardest part of decluttering for me is time. Full time job outside of the home, husband, 4 y/o daughter & 12 y/o dog. I can get started on a project but I rarely have time to finish. And I’m horrible sticking to one task, I may start in my closet then jump ship and start cleaning the bathroom or something lol

I find shoes difficult to declutter, too. I got severe this spring and got rid of the shoes I kept because of the look, but they were uncomfortable.

Life is never long enough to justify wearing uncomfortable shoes. Wow and this reminds me I have a collection of heels I used to wear regularly but that stopped almost a decade ago. Gotta let those go too.

I've had one of those Palm phones as well, it was awesome (I had the slider one)! I seem to have a preference for dying phone systems, because I got a windows phone right after that. Guess Android's going next now that I have switched to that 😁
I also have two pairs of cute dress heals that rub on my cuticles on my toe nails and make my toes so sore…I decided to get rid of one pair but I probably should get rid of both😩

I had a pair of red heels that were so sexy and I loved them. I could count on one hand the number of times i wore them because they hurt feet. I had to get rid of them. I got rid of a bunch of shoes like that. If they hurt my feet, then they had to go. I’m doing the same with trouser socks that wouldn’t stay up on my leg. Now i just throw them away when i take them off. The snake skin print are everything. I’m so motivated by your progress.

They are Seychelles! I know another brand that makes comfy heels is called Sofft. They make cute comfy shoes. My concert heels are Sofft.
I think one of my biggest issues with decluttering aside from trouble parting with sentimental items is deciding where to take donations. Goodwill has questionable ethics, but it’s most convenient for me to donate to. There are certain things that I’d prefer to donate to a particular charity, but that makes it more difficult to do. For example, I’m very passionate about cloth diapering and I have a large tote of cloth diapers to donate. I’d prefer to donate them specifically to a cloth diapering charity so I know they’re doing the most good, but I can’t find one in my state so I’d have to mail them to somewhere like Utah. My youngest child is 10, I need to get rid of these diapers. I think I’ll just put them on FB marketplace, prob for free since I was donating them anyway. I’m just a procrastinator though and it takes me way too long to do things. Obviously, lol.
There are also battered women's shelters. I'm sure they would appreciate diapers. Clothes, too.

You can donate your old phones to a women's shelter. They would be so happy to have them, even if they are not smartphones.
Shoes being comfortable is SO important! I've gotten shoes just because they're my size (11 in women's) but if they're uncomfortable, I'm getting rid of them!
