    Incredible
    I have an idea
    Try to find the names that are on the german équipements on the dog tags ! That would be amazing to find the story of the soldier !
    Great job Nick !

      SLIM SHADY that is a good idea but could be very offensive to the family

      @mattkaustickomments 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Germans did not have names on dog tags, typically they had unit name, serial number and blood type. I doubt families would feel shame. Most German soldiers were not fanatical Nazi killers, they were just regular Johanns drafted to fight for their country.

      @@mattkaustickomments i was watching another video of a guy that was contracted by the government to dig and reclaim bodies from unmarked graves, some of the german oval dog tags tied around their necks had names on them that he read as he went along, i assume it must have varied depending on the time in the war?

    • @patstokes3615
      @patstokes3615 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Canned_beef The Dog Tag are used to identify that a person was killed. One was sent back to headquarters and the other one was forces between the gap of the upper and lower front teeth so the body by driving the jaw closed, so the body could be identified even if it was bones. Dog tag do not go to the family after you are dead. Only those that survive get to keep them. I guess the soldier that had those was returning the dog tag back to headquarters but was killed himself. That is way knowing history and how things work is important. You just assume that those tag belong to family members which isn't really true.

    • @birthcertificate7223
      @birthcertificate7223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The dog tags found in the videos are U.S. dog tags made by U.S. soldiers for deceased German soldiers.
      These tags were made by the GRS ( Grave Registration Service ) and were used on temporary grave markers.
      What i found is a medical waste dump pit with equipment of KIA German soldiers.

    Hi, Nick!
    The more dog tags you find, the sadder it makes me! Such a great loss of life for such a useless reason! But that is the way of wars, I guess.
    So much stuff inside the helmets, and such personal finds! You could expect all the buckles, D-rings, and the like, but the personal stuff hits hard. I'm so thankful it was YOU who found these! You will preserve them as they should be.
    I love all the buttons you are finding! And the stripper clip was amazing to find intact! I can't wait to see everything you're revealing!
    Good luck with the cleaning, some of those helmets appear pretty brittle! Here's hoping for the best!

      History Secrets
      You’re welcome my friend! Is it possible to give it back to his family? 🤔 must be hard to figure that out. I wonder how it happened...and it’s indeed very sad! I think we forget how gruesome things were at that time.
      But I can’t wait for the next video!! Especially, I wanna know what you use to remove the rust from the helmets. I have a German gaz canister (Afrika Korp) that I wanna clean...but I keep wondering what the best method would be. 🤔
      Cheers and see you soon 😀

      @@88thCompany These tags aren't the tags that the soldiers were wearing, but these were used on the temporary grave markers.
      It's almost impossible to find info about German tags..
      Oxalic Acid works great, it removes rust, but the paint stays on! :)

    The uniforms and other possessions were thrown along with the helmets in mass craters and were burned. That's why he is finding all the buttons, equipment and "dog tags." Expand the author's "more" description. It explains the "dump hole" and that the dog tags were American made and denoted found German dog tags. He speaks of the ashes much more in the part 2 video. He states that the uniforms and equipment were from gathered deceased soldiers.

    i hope you're not collecting dog tags there's places you're suppose to send those that get them back to families and use that information and the basis of where you found them to return remains.

    • @History-Secrets

      It's true that you don't have to send them to gouvernement but do you try to trace them back to maybe living descent? I research for found dogtags in Australia getting them back home to their family

      Dylan Chisum he doesn’t really have to. No law states he has to besides these are WW2 artifacts and if that was a law loads of WW2 museums would have to give up most of their artifacts also there isn’t enough information on the dog tags and most of them in the video are German.

    • @ravikevoxxx3748
      @ravikevoxxx3748 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dylan Chisum i collect dog tags and you people overreact when personal items of KIA soldiers are being sold like helmets, pouches with name you people say nice find when its about dog tags you say bring them back. These were government issue the family most likely had a half of their erkunnungsmarke sent back and for US soldiers they have earlier dog tag sets and a reseve one in their kit in europe so stop overreacting about bringing dog tags back its only between your ears because people always hear that was a standard lol.

      I'm not sure why the buttons, but the dog tags were taken from soldiers who got killed & a convenient place to put them would be inside a helmet- that's my guess anyways
