I remember BigBoy Hobbies used to advertise in the back of Model Railroad Craftsman and a couple other of the trade magazines at least 30 yrs. ago. So I called them from the Interstate at Grandma’s/Race Track truck stop and asked ‘can I get a tractor trailer into your parking lot’? He’s like yeah, why not?
I used to stop every time I’d go through headed the California. Fill the sleeper up with kits and head on out.
I am so glad to hear they are still open. If they ever close up, it truly will be the end of an era.

So now that I'm back buying HO stuff again it's mostly coming from Train World's website, which kinda sucks because I like to see the product first hand before I decide to buy it or not. There is down in Australia several that are fully stocked with model kits (cars, trains, planes, tanks, Gundam,, ). Slotcar, Lego, and a lot of RC cars trucks.. some have more others have less . Some of the shops have joined forces to be one so they have better buying power to keep their stock at good prices.. only one shop I know of that is like that old school toy shop covering all of those things then the hobby part of the shop with models and RC cars.. although the nearest hobby RC cars shop that was near me closed down .. it wasn't the most easiest to get there and find it was open (owner was doing work out the back testing nitro motors.. or something like that.. he lost money every time I or anyone else had the same inability to go in and buy stuff... There is another shop but it's a pain to get to via public transport .. but it's a half bottle shop (alcohol) and RC cars.. on the other half of the shop..

They were at one time HUGE into trains Jason. Over the years his train people have stopped coming in due to health (age) or have died off. There was so much work put into the train layout he just decided to keep it up. So now he carries more plastic in place of the trains along with some RC. I just posted a vid the other day of a hobby shop also in Indianapolis that has a HUGE train department. You might enjoy that vid!! 😉

Been a modeler for 50+ years, I remember before the opec oil embargo even models were cheap . Usually models weren't over $5.00 , if you found one for $10.00 it was a doozie. I would have probably crapped my drawers if they were the prices then what they are now. But the kits that have been lost to time far outweigh what they have now.

Now that's a hobby shop! Sadly, I've found that the decals from the older Monogram NASCAR kits don't hold up very well after 30+ years. I recently got a kit based on Lake Speed's Wynn's/Kmart Olds from the mid to late 1980's, and it's so faded that you can barely make out the white lettering on the decal sheet anymore. I know you can get repro decal sets for certain cars, but not all unfortunately.
