OXFAM "Inequality kills" report on India || World Economic Forum || Rich vs Poor

- Oxfam’s annual report on inequality in India focused on the country’s governance structures that promote the accumulation of wealth by a few, while failing to provide safety nets to the rest of the population. The report titled ‘Inequality Kills’ also highlighted the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the rich and the poor in India.
The report said that Indian billionaires saw their combined fortunes more than double during the COVID-19 pandemic, and their count shot up by 39% to 142, while the wealth of the ten richest is enough to fund school and higher education of children in the country for 25 years.
It was released on the first day of the World Economic Forum’s online Davos Agenda summit.

The think you don’t understand is tax is passed in by companies to people and more they are taxed the product loose competitiveness in global market. Sir, if I may ask, is it wealth of billionaires or money? Both r not same. Most super rich r rich on papers I. E they own assets and they don't enough conventional income. So how can u tax? Billionaires owns shares (not necessarily stock market shares) /equity and unless they sell it, it can't be taxed. So effectively they r rich on papers for tax purposes.
You tax the companies...why reduce the corporate tax so much and then implement it within 36 hours?
@@yashmor8439 the problem is when companies gets taxed more, it will result in inflation of its products and/reduction of salaries /manpower which will affect Indian economy if company is big like tata reliance etc. That's why when companies of that level goes bankrupt, govt bails them out. Economics 101.

Well your counter arguments are deeply flawed. Please read, no study more from authentic course syllabus books under the tutelage of some very good teacher before expressing anyyyything on such serious topics.
The emphasis on inequality is understandable. However, if I understand correctly, the 1% you are referring to is wealth tax.
If you do propagate wealth tax, why only on billionaires? Why not on millionaires too? Why not on everyone who has a wealth, say, more than 2 crores?
So, a good logical recommendation will be in order. Otherwise, this video kind of paints the wealthy as villains which is not true. The wealth creators are necessary. The govt is not a wealth creator. The entrepreneurs are the wealth creators. The more rich amongst them are not only more successful for their own self but are also large employers. They also create wealth for other share holders. A lot of effort is required to move away from a socialist mindset to an entrepreneur’s mindset.
Nothing prevents the rich from donating though.
I agree with you partially, the wealth creators are needed, however taking care of the unfortunate multitudes of our own citizens is also important too. The poor have had a very raw deal for the last few years.. The poor have been getting poorer and that is because of concern for all of us.

One of the reason Scandinavian economy and its high living standard benefits all the citizens, because it is high tax and high salary. With those high tax majority Scandinavian countries maintain free education and free health care for everyone. I have studied my economics in a Scandinavian country and perhaps I am biased. But, I have always felt concentrating money or wealth to one to ten percent of population is like allowing blood clot to grow in your brain, which will cause stroke sooner or later. Let the money flow naturally rather than blocking it, and let the fruit of development be enjoyed by everyone. Laksmi is not the goddess for the few; Maa Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth for everyone. Coming from a Muslim family in Bangladesh, I feel your lovely India and my beloved Amar Shonar Bangla; when it comes to economics is getting it totally wrong, in terms of good governance. I sometimes wonder if having too many super rich or billionaires is something that we should be proud of or not all over the world. Doesn't it mean we are getting something really wrong?

What actually is KHAUFNAAK ? Rising number of billionaires ? Or the poor getting poorer ! See, this phenomenon was witnessed worldwide.
Lockdown affected the poor households, that's why the govt. ensured 'free ration' to the poor, and schemes like PM Svanidhi provided benefits worth 10,000 INR to the poor.
Did the government exercised tax cuts for the corporates ? No.
They are growing because the govt. since long is trying to create an investment friendly environment here in India. These are fruits whose seeds were sown long back sir.
And let me be honest sir, your more than needed emphasis on IF THEY GIVE JUST 1% sounded like they are actually *not giving a single penny* and aren't contributing anything either to the GDP or or India's employment rate.

Moreover our focus is not on how many got rich but how many got poorer . Because the COVID has pushed poor 10 years behind ending there savings ..while rich recovered in just one year.. all our efforts to pull PPL out of poverty have been wasted by COVID.. n yes rich don't give wealth tax in india. Niether all billionaire show their real incomes..

Covid was a tragedy no one was prepared for, lockdowns hit our unorganised sector hard ! We didn't feel much tremors during the GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS back in 2007-09 for the same reason (quality/type of workforce) !

Sir, this report is one-sided. Why should a person like Ambani who has taken all the risk behind Jio to provide 4G services at affordable prices to millions of Indians be subjected to an additional wealth tax ? I am pretty certain all companies owned by the super rich are paying corporate tax in full and on time. These billionaires have reached where they are because of calculated risks. Further, reducing corporate tax is not necessarily a bad thing if industrialists pump in the money saved for capacity expansion of their factories. Wealth gap is a reality everywhere. The fact of the matter is that the one who takes most risk gets the highest return. Let us stop demonizing serious industrialists. Crooks like Mallya and Nirav Modi need to be sent to the cleaners.
What about inequality? Is this an economic death sentence to be poor? Are not all citizens of the country entitled to basic living standards? In a nation with over 35 % population below the poverty line, need to think and pause. The rich become rich based on favorable policies they get, the bribes they pay to reach where they have reached. Nothing against super-rich but think of the poor, they are our fellow citizens..
@@yashmor8439 Sir, the whole set up in India is actually geared against the business community. Even today one has to run from pillar to post to set up a factory. Land and labor are vital hurdles. It is industry and only industry that can pull people out of misery. I agree crony capitalism has been a problem in the recent past. Also, fake industrialists borrowing money and not returning the amount to banks is a problem. What can the government do to really make a difference for the poor ? Populist governments do nothing more than giving subsidized rations and some seed money during the agri season ? Real uplifting of the masses will happen when all hurdles to industry are removed. Taxing the billionaires is a hurdle not a solution.

Anshuman, you are right, why we have to tax them, poor people have sex without thinking any consequences of future and when they grew up, we are taxed to help them. There were two brother who used to live on rent in front of my house. Their father was daily wage labor on construction site, not able to earn so much, sometimes not able to pay rent. And food was a luxury for them.thats why they remain uneducated, both just pass class twelfth and start earning.
Main thing is elder brother married and continue the cycle, he earn 10,000 12,000 and have two sons, they also have same conditions, but the younger one decided not to marry by seeing his conditions, he also work in call centre, earn around 15000,but man his skills are next level, the way he talk in English, the level of knowledge about different subject from quantum computing to physics. He is just 23 year old class 12 pass but everything he learn from internet and i have that gut feeling, he will be a next millionaire. The level of hardwork he put is incredible.
So what I understand is people should have children when their economic conditions is stable and good, not like depend on government or billionaire money.
We live in reality and practicality not morality.
