As a foreigner to north america I was not aware of these kind of Q&A's, and I must say that I find Ms. Jenille Riley to be such a sweet and charming person. I have watched a good twenty interviews by now, and it just keps getting better and better. I have allrdeasy recomended her Q&A's to all my freinds here in small Denmark - Keep up the awesome work Ms Riley!!
He is a deep thinker. I liked him as an actor ( saw him first in primal fear- found him outstanding), now I know why. He is an intellectual and it’s interesting to see that it took him a while to feel confident to call himself an actor. Loved the illusionist and ‚The painted veil‘
I was home in my pj's when I heard on TV that Edward Norton was in town at the (2009 or 2010)? TIFF Toronto FIlm Festival, they mentioned the site where he would be watching his new upcoming movie "Leaves of Grass" which I had just missed.. so, I changed, tried to look as good as I could given the circumstances and rushed downtown. Cause I misted the movie, I waited at the back doors of the establishment where of course there were paparazzi's too. I was lucky enough to be standing by the stairs where I could see actors coming out so very well. When Edward came out, not only was I able to see him up close, he passed right by me, others were receiving autographs from him but unfortunately, he passed right by me at first not signing mine. I wasn't the type to bring attention to myself so I respected that and was happy just seeing him in real life. It was enough of a great moment for me as I always respected him as an actor, I always saw him as a down to hearth individual, which he is, that's what attracts me to him. And, yesss of course, he looks fantastic..Then, once he had passed me at least a good 10 feet, HE TURNED AROUND THEN CAME BACK JUST TO SIGN "MY" PICTURE..oufff For some unknown reason to this day, he latterly came back just to sign mine then, he turned around, went straight for the car that was waiting for him and left..I'll always remember this moment. I feel quite privileged to have met him in such cliche, however, very special manner.. it made me wonder, to this day...why me? I wish I could see him again and thank him properly, and maybe ask him why..But hey, THANKS Edward, I really really appreciated that..keep filming, I miss seeing you on the big picture..love always..Sylvie, Toronto, ON Canada
He's so eloquent and insightful. Cant believe that people like Eddie Redmayne have Oscars but not him!!Hes one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.
I just watched the whole interview and despite the fact I didn't understand ( ;) ) everything I'm totally satisfied about spending last two hours at listening and watching this gorgeous actor, I can't belive how incredible he is. Thank you for sharing and Jenelle Riley for nice questions. :)
That is a Very Good conversation! There is a rumor that he is hard to work with but he is soooooo intelligent! He obviously comes from an intellectual yet down to earth back ground so he cant cope with every body. Even his choices are daring. I like that!. Tries to give messages through his movies. He IS an actor. Norton "rocks" At least for us the audience
Listening to Edward this long is so gratifying because I never have anyone to talk to on such a great and teachable way. I am also understanding how he disseminates the difference. My neice tells me "it's not you Auntie", it's the people who cannot have real conversation. I've always felt horribly different from people and at 64, I'm most annoyed to do things that I hate or have conquered. I unfortunately get bored to quickly with repetition if it is not taking me higher. Just Edward's vocabulary is sweet to my ears, if I know the words or not. This is like being in theatrical schooling. He thinks hard before he speaks. Magnifico!!!
you can really see that his parents DID help his acting , and his intelligence as a whole by taking time with him to "explain what makes a good actor.." and other examples! GO MOM AND DAD! BRAVO!
I like how you can tell how insightful and full of wisdom Edward Norton is just from the way he speaks. He takes time to think of his responses and doesn't just try and get words out as quickly as possible. It's crazy to think he's almost fifty at this point.
Edward Norton has been of my favorite actors since Primal Fear. He is incredibly gifted & totally underrated!! American History X is still one of the all time greatest movies!!
I LOVE her as an interviewer...she's the best one in this whole series and always brings thoughtful and insightful questions. Edward Norton is a god and we know that, but it's nice to hear more personal experiences and it's nice remembering that amazing actors also struggled at the start. The TH joke had me dying! hahaha
I can listen and watch this man talking for an hours, and hours and hours. What a brilliant mind. I think I get smarter just by listening him. And of course he is an excellent actor and director. I just loved this conversation. Can't get enough. Thank you.
you can tell he's lived a LIFE just by the way he talks! my favourite actor of all time, his performance in American History X will forever be regarded as the greatest performance in any film ever for me.
That is one of my favourite films. So well done with a lot of other great actors. Spike Lee created a really great atmosphere that was very realistic and emotional. So many memorable scenes and it also honoured 9/11 in a very touching way.
For a man who is well educated, and obviously highly intelligent and well read, he takes a very long time to find the right words to answer each question. I don't mean that as a criticism in any way, just merely my own observation. Jenelle is an excellent interviewer, for one standout reason; she's a great LISTENER. She doesn't interrupt, rush, or prompt the person she's chatting with, and she has a calm and relaxing demeanour, which allows her guests to feel comfortable and at ease, and take all the time they need to respond to her questions.
It could be an off day for him (he looks like he hadn't been getting a lot of sleep). Otherwise, this interview could suggest a reason why his writing input on The Incredible Hulk was not a positive thing. His storytelling abilities seem pretty average, in contrast to his performance abilities. That said, the verbal abilities involved in good oral storytelling are very different from written storytelling.
Fight Club is my all time favorite Movie. Best Edward Norton and Brad Pitt Performance. (Along with Primal Fear and American History X for Edward and SE7EN and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood for Brad, of course!) IMO!
Hello, Ms.Jennel Riley here to mention this was one if not the very first interview I watched from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation a year ago or so and I've watched it several times, finding in it many more layers to appreciate. Mr. Norton one of my very faves actors from the States, thank YOU º namaste 23 04 2016
Today, I saw Ed Norton featured on the PBS show, "Know Your Roots". I was really taken with how good looking he actually is (outside of his movie roles), and how intelligent and charming he is. His conversational skills are definitely a cut above. Intrigued, I looked up information on his body of work, and realized that I've seen pretty close to everything he's done in movies except for his appearances in romcom. He is a stunning, brilliant performer.
He is such a down to earth person, so well educated in what and why he does, so experienced, interested in so many different things and learning about these things.... perfect man if you ask me
Elastic plastic :P I think what he's basically saying is some actors are very diverse, while others aren't, but they're still good. Like Robert Deniro, he's a fantastic actor, but he usually sticks to the same stuff. Then you have someone like Gary Oldman, who might be entirely different from one role to the other.
Edward Norton is a presence's I keenly feel. He can play these spectrum characters because he is also so alienated. I love you my brother Edward Norton. And I thank you.
At the beginning of the interview, he was kind of shy. But then, he started to get more confident and comfortable. Congrats to the interviewer, she’s amazing!!!
I really enjoy the length of the SAG interviews and the talent which appears upon them. That being said I'd like these interviews to be conducted by someone more relatable to those being interviewed.
I also saw Ian McKellen in "Acting Shakespeare", on Broadway. I was a 19-year-old acting student on a trip to New York, and, as Mr. Norton did, I raced up to the stage when he called out for volunteers to join him there. It (alas!) was my only time on a Broadway stage, and it was thrilling to be there, lying on the stage floor, pretending to be dead, especially with such a captivating host.
Thank you...such a smart, humble , accessible, thoughtful intelligent... actor....all the bad stories about him in the press are not to be believed... Edward you are a rock star I'm a better person because of your performance s...you give me insight into the human condition... I AM and remain Ruben Martin Johnson Garcia, artistic director and founder of pie jesu productions PEACE ✌️
Who else here has realized they are actually watching these for Jenelle, rather than the actors? 👀 (On a binge; every time there's another interviewer, the temptation to skip right on to the next one manifests).
People who go inwards for their answers aren't shy, they're authentic. I say this becauase I feel there are too many comments tagging him as shy. Talking is not the same process as writting. In conversations, if it comes out too clean, it has been rehearsed.
I didn't know E.N. was so tongue tied outside of acting, I think his brilliance is always 'on' and may cause him to get a bit jumbled up at times. Either way another idiosyncrasy I didn't know he had that makes him an all around interesting person!
Toph Adam I adore him but I must say that I found the interview a tad tedious because of the way he does stammer in real life… But what an incredible individual. I guess he needs time to process his answers in order to be accurate… Total respect for him.
We all get tounge tied these are just actors, their talent is that they can portray normal every day people and in some cases be extraordinary in a simple world, we are all actors we just dont get it on film lol x he is a great performer i give him that
20:38 So true. Cultish is the correct word. 26:19 Edward Norton comes from money in the housing industry. 51:10 Agreed. An actor is one part of many, and you have to make sure you're fitting well with the other parts. 1:49:47 True. He makes you wait for his thoughts, and you are happy to wait.
I view this actor the same way I like Brando, the material he chooses might not alway's work but I would watch it because he's an interesting unique actor.
Because Edward spoke very little with mostly facial expression and mustache and beard. He is extremely intelligent and an actor of excellence so yes, he would bring what I would call challenges. When excellence meet mediocrity, it drives me nuts, let alone having to answer to this person in "leadership". Extremely hard to be different and unassuming. Excellent interview how she doesn't interrupt, because what Edward has to say is important. What I would do to have more opportunity on more better conversations than surface and so unattached. Wow, Edward is a great conversations and can create different dialect. Great!!! Bravo!!!
Always enjoyed his work but, Motherless Brooklyn! Huge fan but respect 👍 omg just am enjoying his tact and care in a more broad sense writing directing performing to the point of shear joy!
Loved you so much in Primal Fear my girl friend and I read the book and she finished it on the plane called me when she landed. She screamed the last sentence at me and we both agreed you fit the part in the movie.
can we please increase the volume on these interviews? they are all flawed in some way or another. on this one I can hear her fine and Ed Norton not so much. excellent interviews though but please take the sound in account
It's too bad he's apparently so 'difficult', because he really is a great actor and it would be nice to see him doing more. Even so, I can understand studios not wanting to work with someone who demands script/editing approvals etc. and wants to re-write every project he's on.
Edward's hands are just as soft as I saw with Jessica in the intimate bed scene. So clean, soft and manicured. These are no scuffed hands🎩🎼🎧🎤🎹🎸🪗🎶🎬📽🎥🎛🎙. 👋👋🖖🖖. What a great conversation. Will order every movie available with Edward North. Fantistico!!!
Ed Norton was the original hot nerd of the 90's. I still love him
Edward Norton is one of the best actors working. He brings so much weight to any project.
Can't go wrong with Edward Norton he's a fantastic actor and very underrated
He is too smart for Hollywood's industry. So, so well educated and has a great sense in intellectual conversation.
That’s why he is doing so much besides acting.
hes kind of looking at me in thus pucture
Great writer too
So smart
Edward Norton is such an amazing actor, he is my all-time favorate actor. I look up to him so much
me too.He is an awesome actor In my top 5
same and I look up to him as an inspiration to push myself forward to follow in his footsteps on theater and film
Are you short?

I didn't expect so much shyness from this actor, Edward was so great in the painted veil, great interview!
... when was he shy ?
That is one of my favourite films, so beautiful. I think Naomi Watts, (well, Sissy Spacek first), is my favourite actress.
Thank you for reminding me he was in that! So many of his movies were low key...like him :) I loved that movie
The Painted Veil is one my favorite movies. A beautiful look at human nature and our relationship with love.
Understandably Mr Edward Norton is indeed an articulate n crisp in his conversation with hostess Ms Jenelle Riley. Enjoyable watch!
He's so eloquent and insightful. Cant believe that people like Eddie Redmayne have Oscars but not him!!Hes one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.
Redmayne was phenomenal in The Theory Of Everything. But I do think Edward Norton's Oscar is coming soon.
You don’t need to cut down redmayne to prove your point. Redmayne was PHENOMENAL.
I just watched the whole interview and despite the fact I didn't understand ( ;) ) everything I'm totally satisfied about spending last two hours at listening and watching this gorgeous actor, I can't belive how incredible he is. Thank you for sharing and Jenelle Riley for nice questions. :)
Such a nice comment..
+MiLusiAH His performance in American History X is probably one of the greatest I have ever seen.
'American History X' was one of the greatest screen performances ever committed to film. He should have won the Oscar that year!
So true
@D Allen he was up against titanic and good will hunting, plus as good as it gets...
he was up against titanic and good will hunting, plus as good as it gets...
Agreed, plus he was excellent in The Painted Veil.
@D Allen
Zzzz zzz zzz
He is one of many underrated actors in the US film industry.

Most actors when they are totally being themselves are nervous, and even shy. She's a great interviewer, Actors seem comfortable around her.
I am always so mesmerised by him- not only is he drop dead gorgeous but extremely intelligent and articulate- I absolutely love him!
Dodnt realise this was long(watching @ 2.34am) but who could resist Edward norton
I like how you can tell how insightful and full of wisdom Edward Norton is just from the way he speaks. He takes time to think of his responses and doesn't just try and get words out as quickly as possible. It's crazy to think he's almost fifty at this point.

Fantastic actor and a wonderful, well spoken, smart man💙
Excellent actor. One of my acting heroes.
It took me too long to discover this channel!! Wonderful interview prowess Jenelle!!
The man is brilliant 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
can't believe i watch the longest interview in my experience like this until the END!
she's a great interviewer
I LOVE her as an interviewer...she's the best one in this whole series and always brings thoughtful and insightful questions. Edward Norton is a god and we know that, but it's nice to hear more personal experiences and it's nice remembering that amazing actors also struggled at the start. The TH joke had me dying! hahaha
So intelligent and soulful and wise! Love when he says: "I have a nice way about me" when interviewing for waiter jobs. :)
I can listen and watch this man talking for an hours, and hours and hours. What a brilliant mind. I think I get smarter just by listening him. And of course he is an excellent actor and director. I just loved this conversation. Can't get enough. Thank you.
This is the first video on TH-cam that I watched which was nearly 2 hours. Ed is an awesome student and teacher.
you can tell he's lived a LIFE just by the way he talks! my favourite actor of all time, his performance in American History X will forever be regarded as the greatest performance in any film ever for me.
He was so dope in 'The 25th Hour.'
Yes he was

Intelligent people think and answer, they try to put the most genuine and appropriate words in a statement.
Edward Norton's interviews really sing when he has a fantastic interviewer. This is a prime example. Excellent work, Jenelle...and love your dress!
He really is the best actor of at least my generation (Gen X) but I wish he would be cast as a lead in more movies.
one of the greatest actor of these times
This is a fascinating interview. He's very insightful and self-evolved!
Who's watching this in 2019? Before Motherless Brooklyn comes out?
I've come here after watching Motherless Brooklyn, such a meaningful film ❤
Fight Club is my all time favorite Movie. Best Edward Norton and Brad Pitt Performance. (Along with Primal Fear and American History X for Edward and SE7EN and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood for Brad, of course!) IMO!
Fight club transcends its medium.
I feel like I actually understand acting now. One of my favorite actors Edward Norton
In an ideal world this guy has already won 2 Oscars for Primal Fear and American History X
he was up against titanic and good will hunting, plus as good as it gets...
Supporting one for Kingdom of Heaven, too. IMO he stole the show. While wearing a mask the entire time.
7thejeff no he wasn’t. He lost to Cuba gooding jr for ‘jerry maguire’.
I think history american x was one of his best should have won
Legend

I thought he was absolutely brilliant in Primal Fear. Got a big shock at the end. What a talent. X🌠
Really loveed the way each conversation moved one to another in this interview. I appriciate.
I
LOVE

Some have more range, but re-think De Niro in Awakening? Oldman is amazing tho...
Edward Norton is a presence's I keenly feel. He can play these spectrum characters because he is also so alienated. I love you my brother Edward Norton. And I thank you.
So refreshingly thoughtful
At the beginning of the interview, he was kind of shy. But then, he started to get more confident and comfortable. Congrats to the interviewer, she’s amazing!!!

such a fascinating acter .. he the best for me
he is amazing , and the interviewer its really good great job
Awesome, happy, real interview. I just subscribed.
Learned so much from this talk. Ed Norton has so many incisive things to say.
I don't think you know what incisive means. Incisive are some of your teeth
Man....I'm going to need a drink to quench this FIRST :D !
Yekay yeke Sir. I just found this video. And just saw your comment. So many hard lols. Thank you sir! Thank you.
YOU'RE WELCOME ! 😄
People who go inwards for their answers aren't shy, they're authentic. I say this becauase I feel there are too many comments tagging him as shy. Talking is not the same process as writting. In conversations, if it comes out too clean, it has been rehearsed.
God bless you Edward! Love you!
We all get tounge tied these are just actors, their talent is that they can portray normal every day people and in some cases be extraordinary in a simple world, we are all actors we just dont get it on film lol x he is a great performer i give him that
Love his aesthetic!
He hasn't aged at all
Most actors when they are totally being themselves are nervous, and even shy. She's a great interviewer, Actors seem comfortable around her.
my fav human fucking ever
I love this man :)
Jesus he is gorgeous
Janelle, yours are the only interviews I watch! I feel like I watch them more for your amazing questions and funny quips than for the actors now lol.
Awesome interview!!!
its a very honest interview
Awesome!!! Thank you!!!! I hope you asked him about 'Frida' and what he wrote for the film...
This interview is GOLD!
If you did one with Emma Stone, I'd watch/listen to it numerous times no doubt.
I view this actor the same way I like Brando, the material he chooses might not alway's work but I would watch it because he's an interesting unique actor.
Great interview. Thank you.
Incredible actor
Whoop! Edward Norton !
Great!!! Bravo!!!
Fantastic interview
Always enjoyed his work but, Motherless Brooklyn! Huge fan but respect 👍 omg just am enjoying his tact and care in a more broad sense writing directing performing to the point of shear joy!
Consummate actor.
+Tobias Spring increase the volume
It's because her mic is closer to her mouth, and edward's not so much.
No one ever told me, not one wisper not one word.
all these years
It's too bad he's apparently so 'difficult', because he really is a great actor and it would be nice to see him doing more. Even so, I can understand studios not wanting to work with someone who demands script/editing approvals etc. and wants to re-write every project he's on.
The same play David Schwimmer attended and made him want to act .. I just watched an interview of David, that's funny .
Ian McKellen Acting Shakespeare (1982)
American History was sickeningly amazing. It was disturbing.🥺
Death to smoochy is one of my favorites too that movie is really funny hahahaha
you are not your screen actors guild card.
fantastic actor
my favourite of his performances is
american history x
the score
primal fear
rounders
the illusionist and of course fright crub
Edward's hands are just as soft as I saw with Jessica in the intimate bed scene. So clean, soft and manicured. These are no scuffed hands🎩🎼🎧🎤🎹🎸🪗🎶🎬📽🎥🎛🎙. 👋👋🖖🖖. What a great conversation. Will order every movie available with Edward North. Fantistico!!!
