I remember watching this in film school. This scene made me love this movie. The pain feels so real, I was always a sucker for dark unhappy endings… poetic in a way. Life seems to be a series of unhappy endings. You have to just keep on walking and listen to the music. It’s getting so much harder to do that.
At 2:29 where she falls to her knees and makes that sound - genius.... Julietta was a genius to do that. That sound is exactly the sort of pain one would make when they don't want to live anymore. How she knew to do it, who knows, but it's pure genius.
I watched it last night and was crushed by Oscar's betrayal. I just knew it would happen. I don't know how Cabiria can smile the way she does at the end.
You have to see all of the preceding film to really appreciate it to the fullest, but this is probably the most powerful and "real" scene ever put on film. I admit to being a bit biased since this is my all time favorite film. I love this film to pieces, yet I can't quite get that level of enthusiasm for it from any of my friends. My life is NOTHING like hers, yet I identify completely with her (I'm a guy, btw).

I saw this movie for the first time last nite. When she realized that he wanted to kill her...I thought her acting was fantastic. She looked like an animal that was truly cornered...I wanted to die for her....all I could think of is..omg she sold her little poor house and all that time on her back.....FOR WHAT? Thank goodness that fool couldnt pull it off...BUT he was going to do it...he just didnt have the nerve. VERY good movie...so good.
When she says "I don't wanna live anymore", in Italian when you speak normally the accent should be on "I don't", but in this scene it is on "wanna". I don't know was it a brilliant idea by Fellini or it was Giulietta Masina who set up the sound of the sentence in this way: the fact is that everything is more dramatic and heartbreaking. In this film she is amazing. Too bad there are no final minutes when she meets the guys who play and sing and the smile returns: it is as if she were coming back to life! The scene is probably shot on the Tiber River, near Rome.

Cinematic masterpiece, Fellini at his best,proving film can be art.
