    Trust me, fish, you're dinner...
    A bear cub has a devil of a time dealing with a huge salmon.

    Can't get much fresher than that. Nice, big salmon dinner for this cute little bear cub. I'll bet a nap was in order after the meal. Sweet dreams little guy.

      While I was fishing, he polished it off in just a few minutes. Ten minutes later, Momma had another one for him. The average Pacific coast bears eat over 5,000 pounds of salmon each season.

      NOT TRUE! Vincent, sorry to see you have a jaded view of bears. In fact, they are very timid of human contact and will almost always run off when confronted. I have had hundreds of bear contacts in the forests of Canada. Only twice did I climb a tree,.Once when an angry Grizzly was stomping in the bush and another time when I nearly stepped on a bear cub while timber cruising. The cub raised its head from his nap and bawled, his sister saw me and bawled also. Although Mom was not irate, her head shaking and snorts coaxed me up the tree.

    • @squabby3
      @squabby3  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@dthomas4505 No kidding D. The alternative to that salmon's quick death is, it spawns, then spends the next three weeks slowly dying. By the time they die, they can't see, swim or stay upright. The little cub spared the salmon a long slow death. People like Mommy probably don't even know that their death is a done deal as soon as they leave the ocean. Freshwater kills salmon slowly but surely. On average a salmon will die within seven weeks of hitting the freshwater river it spawns in.

      Momma and her cub were just two of the many bears that joined me on that day of fishing. Sproat river, at the fish ladder, is a favourite fishing hole for the blacks. I was fly fishing on the other side of the river, about thirty meters away. Not uncommon to see an adult black consume 10 - 15 salmon per sitting.

      Well, we know he didn't drag it into the bush to play a game of cards. A young cub like him will take about half of an hour to consume a fish that big. Like children, they sometimes play with their food first.
