Hi Kim, I really appreciate that you watch my videos and I am grateful for your comment 🙏. Two full pots of monkey tail ? oh wow, that must be a lovely sight when they bloom in the summer. Not the easiest plants to repot, I am always afraid of breaking the stems 🤣. Mine is getting very heavy and I wonder if I should repot it again. As I repotted it two years ago maybe it will hold on for one more. Hope you are already having a great weekend and wish you a lovely rest of the day 😍💖

I got a good price at an orchid fair in Lisbon, it cost 19 euros. It was missing one stem which left a scar, maybe taken for reprodution or broke...it does not show anymore. Still, I was ver lucky, the only one I saw for sale... But then, I do not go to many places😝

Hi Fernanda! I really admire your monkeys tail cactus. The blooms are stunning! You don’t really expect to see such pretty blooms on the plant. I find that with most cactus blooms I see on TH-cam. Their blooms are equivalent in beauty to orchid blooms. The plant itself is very attractive even without blooms . You don’t expect to see blooms pop out from the “furry tail”. I hope you understand what I am doing a poor job of explaining. I’ll stop now. Have a very Happy Easter 🐣💐 💕
You are absolutely right, Beverly. We do not expect cactus to produce such beautiful flowers but they do. Most of them have outstanding blooms, many are frangrant and some are huge. They do not last long but they bloom sequencially which is always a plus. This video is what I need! I have this cactus but it has never flowered for me. I can’t figure out if it likes sun or shade, hot or cool weather. But then again, mine is maybe still young to flower. 🤔 Thank you Fernanda, your Monkey’s tail is gorgeous with those fine hair.
Thank you Ana, I feel so happy that it was of use to you. I had this plant for 3 years and it already was a long plant when I bought it although with only 3 stems but it only bloomed last year. So maybe yours is still young but hopefully it blooms for you soon.

Gosto muito de ler sobre plantas, saber de onde vêm ajuda a saber como cuidar embora hoje em dia haja muita hibridação pelo meio. No nosso clima não temos realmente muita dificuldade mas há países onde os pormenores fazem a diferença. Beijinhos, amiga e uma boa Páscoa para si e toda a família sem esquecer o lindo Apolo e a sua linda gatinha.
Eu agora também já só tenho uma gata e uma cadela. O meu lindo e amado Rufus já só vive no meu coração e nas minhas memórias. Ele já estava muito velhinho e chegou a hora dele mas isso não me consola nada. Mas enfim, é assim a vida. Temos de andar para frente.

Hello Fernanda. I don't have a single cactus in my collection of plants, unless Crown of Thorns are in the same family. I don't like needles unless you can thread them. Lol. However I am considering this one for its blooms and fluffly tail, which I think may intimidate a few squirrels around here. Lol. Did you say it can take full sun? Happy Easter 💕
Thank you for watching Blanca, much appreciated ❤️. Crown of thorns is not a cactus in spite of the spines but they are related as succulents. It is a gorgeous bush, always blooming.
As for monkeys tail, yes I keep it in full sun but in your climate better give it some shade especially in warmer days.

I love this cactus! The plant looks great and the flowers even more so! I'm growing mine from seed so I have a long way to go to see mine flower. What kind of soil or soil mix do you use? I'm currently moving all my desert cacti to a super gritty mix (pea gravel, charcoal bits, pumice, orchid bark) and my epiphytes are in a topsoil, pearlite, and pumice mix.
The mix you are using seems quite good. I am not very particular about soil, anyone will do considering my climate and growing outdoors. I use several types of mixes, depending on what I have available. Any type of dirt will do for me and I mix in vermiculite which I prefer, or perlite. I keep the old orchiata bark from orchid repottings and I also add it to the mix whenever I have some which will add some acidity to the soil. Cactus seem to like neutral to slightly acidic soils rather than alkaline. Recently I bought a soil which is appropriate for bonsai which is sort of griddy and today I added it to my mix too, it looks quite nice. Also I can add some fine charcoal if I have it available. It's like baking a cake, without a recipe😂
Nice video. Im getting this species soon too. I do have a question though: i will keep it indoors most of the year because i live in a rather rainy country. Does this species need direct sunlight or do they get burned from it?
Hello and thanks for visiting and commenting. It is wonderful that you have this cactus too, it is a magnificent one. My own grows in direct sun all day long and it never burnt. In fact it needs the highest possible amount of light you can give it, including direct sun. Of course, direct sun through a window should be avoided at midday because there is no wind to soften it up. But, yes, I would reccomend as much direct sun as possible, except during the hottest hours of the day. Before you place it in full sun I would reccomend also that you gradually get it used to the sun, a bit more time every week. Enjoy and have a lovely sunday 💖💖💖

Hi there🙋, thank you so much for visiting!!! My monkey tail is in a south facing position with high light all day and getting direct sun for about 4 hours now that is summer. Coming winter it will be in the sun for most part of the day ❤️😍 Have a great weekend!!!!
My monkey tail isn't as fuzzy as yours. Are there different types?
Hello!!! It may get more fuzzy over time, at least mine is doing so, getting fuzzier every year. There other types of tail cactus, like for instance, rattail and dogtail. There is a foxtail as well although it grows more upright. Thanks for watching and commenting with my best wishes for 2024 💖💖💖
