My word, may I say that aside from your amazing God given gift, talent, and skill, taking on this all powerful subject that speaks to what you must obviously believe in, is beautifully strong in an upside down world that rejects Christ. As a follower of Jesus I thank you for not being afraid of creating this beautiful piece🙏🏻
Absolutely glorious, Joel. Not that any of your pieces aren't special, but obviously how could this one not be? It was amazing to watch you on this one. I can easily understand your hesitation and doubt arising with working on this project but I assure you, you have done it justice and conquered any intimidation regarding the all important subject. A truly blessed dedication. Troy
Man you’re amazing! I didn’t tried your glazing method yet but it turns out great on your tutorials! Thanks I found your channel! Not to bragg but I’m an all around in terms of visual arts. Watercolor, acrylic, oils, charcoal, colored pencils, markers and pastels. But I stick to charcoal/graphite because of the material availability. Oils and acrylics were too expensive in our country unlike charcoals and graded pencils. And after this video I have made another method which I didn’t expect to work. You’re a genius man! Love your style! Thanks for sharing your technique! 😊 Subscribe!
Hi.. @ Joel … Speechless!! Just loved the way you sketched! For the first time, I watched your video. And it’s amazing. I’m a beginner and would like to know the list of things you used to sketch. Thanks in advance.
Awesome as always.. Does the acetone you sprayed affects the 1st layer of coating? I mean the gesso? Do you let it dry after you sprayed it or keep drawing?? I'm still amazed by the effect after the acetone. It makes the art alive. Really deep tone
Thanks! I either work directly with photographers to gain permission to use their photos as artist reference or I purchase rights through various online resources.
Beautiful work! I plan to do charcoal on canvas for my current piece - inspired by you! I have willow charcoal for the shadowing and background, are you using a wood less charcoal pencil to draw/sketch or initially? Thanks!😊
@@JoelPilcherArt thanks so much for replying. Your work is absolutely incredibly, thank you for sharing your creativity and helping other artists on their journey, God bless you!
Hi Joel… great work….Question… started… coal…. etc etc….than fixation spray… then coal…etc…. etc… and end… spray… Than… it went wrong… Used the seal coat… Golden soft gel gloss… Total art gone!!! What did i do wrong? Thnx for helping me out. Lucky me… stilll have the photo’s 😂😂😂😂 1:59
Wow, that's bad. I'm not sure what happened. What brand of fixative spray are you using? I use Krylon fixative spray between layers and Krylon matte finish as the last coat before varnishing. Did you watch m y video about the sealing process?
Joel. This is beautiful. I want to try charcoal on canvas but not sure what kind of canvas to use. What type do you use for your charcoal work? All your work is stunning. 🙏❤️
I prefer more texture. I've actually started adding a couple layers of gesso to increase texture. I only use charcoal powder and willow charcoal because it's softer and more workable. Hope that helps!
I buy canvas that is stretched and pre primed and I used to draw directly on it without any prep work and it was great. I've recently started applying a couple layers of gesso first and I'm loving the additional texture. Thanks!

Where do you find such beautiful references for your art ?
I purchase rights through various stock photography websites.
Amazing 🙌🙌
Good job Mr Joel!! My name is also Joel and I love art😊
Thanks Joel!

Thank you! The acetone spray doesn't effect the base coat of gesso. I let it dry before continuing with the work.
🔥🔥🔥🙏🔥

Yes, lightly sketched in charcoal pencil first. Then willow and charcoal powder. Thanks!

Do you grid as you go? Instead of full grid at first.
Sort of. Check out my other video about how I draw large scale. I also sometimes use a projector.

Thank you! I buy my canvases from Milo Art Supplies.
Hi @Joel Pilcher, I hope you notice my comment: Could you please, pleeease, cover your charcoal painting with epoxy resin? Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion, but using epoxy resin on my original art is not something I plan to do anytime soon. Sorry.
Please how smooth should your canvas be to be able to this ? I tried shading on canvas and sometimes it's hard to get highlights with the eraser

@@JoelPilcherArt Thanks a lot sir.
Is the canvas primmed
