If someone ditches you because of your phone, why would you want to date that person? That's the kind of behaviour it's actually reasonable to judge a person for.
This is not just stupidity, our minds are easy to manipulate, Apple's marketing is absurd, it makes us believe that the iPhone is something from another world, but it is just another cell phone like any other.
Dude Samsung S series is a blast. My first and last(for now) iPhone was 13 pro max, but I hopped to S23 ultra due to problems with app accessibility in my country. Well, now I can't go back to iPhone, seriously the oneui design is soo SLICK, it feels more "mature" than iOS, and it is way more flexible

True. Its price is probably the Gdp of Korea in total. Plus all Samsung phones with a direct apple counterpart are usually 30 bucks cheaper. But here’s a tip. How to get girls 101: Buy Mac Pro wheels.
Trust me, even if you use an iPhone, those same people will still judge you whether it’s the old model, the base, plus, pro or pro max. There is no end to this, just use whatever phones suit you most, it’s just a DAMN phone!

@@SacreDro I went to the US for a business trip. Got some coffee from a shop near my hotel and got criticized while I was waiting in line. I was not prepared for that culture shock in the US. If you are an Iphone user and has no problem purchasing one (no kidney selling) It's a good advice to have a mid-range android, complete with flashy color and look, to drive red flags away
One thing I noticed about South Korean’s is that they are overly obsessed with USA so much to the point that they’re ready to forget their own culture and identity.

Dude trust me this thing is also really common in thw US even between fully grown up people 💀 I work for Verizon in a call center, sometimes I work with people doing their initial set up of their phones(this is just one of the 1,001 things I have to do over the phone), or doing troubleshootings when the text messages don't work. Dude, when we are done and we are testing the text messages they always say really worried "Why are the text messages looking green?!", like if that's one of the worst things that could happen to them. Like, not only they don't know that they need to set up the Imessages, but for me it's ridiculous how they think it's such a big thing that their messages do not scream "I'M AN IPHONE USER!!!" just with the color. Bet they don't want to even be friends with an android user because it not an Apple brand. Sounds like these people are too brainwashed by the brand itself that they need to start judging others like a dating app on Tinder based on what phone they use. I live in Korea. It's not just about people taking memes seriously. The age of getting your first smartphone in Korea is an average fourth grader. At that age, parents have a lot of control, and of course, they have a lot of control over them. Not only do Android smartphones have an affordable model, but most Koreans in their teens and 20s have a strong perception of Android phones such as LG and Samsung as "the phones which young children are managed and controlled by their parents." On the other hand, the iPhone has a strong perception of "uncontrolled free phones." Of course, the brand's image and many factors will affect it, but the most important reason seems to come from their perception of past experiences.
Since when iPhone was "free" as in freedom, let me highlight the contradiction, you can't change your launcher, you can't have another app store (unless you're in the EU), Apple controls everything that goes in the App Store, you can't use another browser engine only webkit, it is hard to mod games there, like geode for geometry dash doesn't exist, you have limited customization to your own devices, and on Android you can unlock the bootloader, Android has so much control and freedom for your device.
@@TheRealAlphaXD they don't look at it from that perspective but from perspective of Galaxy ecosystem and parental control of kids Galaxy devices. They can't control them on iPhone.
I live in Busan, South Korea. The flex culture here is unbelievable. Everything from the outfits (brands) you wear, to the car you drive, to the places you go to eat. As a foreigner, the way it seems to me is that nearly everything is done to show status or clout. Because of this people come across as more vain than the average person would in the states. It also comes across as people will “enjoy” or do things simply because other people have done it, not because it’s something good. Like they wouldn’t have made that choice do go somewhere, do something or eat at a place if they didn’t feel compelled to also show their status by following suit in the same set of actions that everyone else did. I think that’s just part of the culture at the end of the day. A big part of it is showing other Koreans you’ve “made it.” Don’t get me started on how big paying in installments for things people can’t actually afford. Or guys being “car poor” to finance a super expensive vehicle in order to show off. People literally go broke trying to show they’ve made it when it’s one big facade.
Well it's common in rapidly industrialised countries but as the country stabilizes in growth people become more aware of self satisfaction and importance of someones company rather than their views or social choice. The same thing happened in Japan during the 90s when it was booming but now they are more simple minded and polite and china is slowly entering this show off culture while Korea soon will get rid of this as growth stagnates
It might also be that with Samsung you get more features for what you pay, for Apple, you spend (r:waste) a lot of money for the brand design - if you can afford to do that, you seem wealthier.
@kevinwasherebefore7928 Lmao most iPhone fanboys think they look "rich" with an iPhone even if its old, dirty, broken, etc. when in reality, u can never judge a person by their phone.

It's ridiculous to me how some people judge someone entirely based on the phone they use. I see this problem a lot, especially here in the US, where a majority are iPhone users. So mass stereotypes and false claims have formed over the years. You could pull out the most expensive Samsung/Android phone, and an iPhone user here will still call you broke or cheap. A lot of Apple users seem to believe that they're top-notch and surpass everything else in the market just because they got an apple logo on the back of their phone.

The majority of people in the US arent IPhone users, only a portion of a certain generation do mostly use IPhones. You can’t really talk about the iPhone problem is South Korea without talking about the overall “luxury” problem. So much emphasis is given to owning luxury brands it’s crazy - no matter what your income is, people will save up and buy luxury items not to even show off, but to simply fit in. IPhone just has the “luxury” image in South Korea, which is why it sells so well for people in the 20s even at the sacrifice of usability.

South Koreans obsession with brand obsession is just on whole another level, you can just see how everyone almost wears brands like Nikes or North Face all around their outfit also the obsession with luxury designer brands like Chanel, Dior and others. The Idol, K-pop and celebrity culture also promotes these brands and expensive designer things, because of that young teenage girls are asking for designer luxury bags to their parents just because their favorite Idol is the face of Dior, VL and so on. It's like almost 90% of Koreans really care and spend a lot of money on their favorite brands, new and latest IPhone just for the external validation they wanna get or fit in with what others are also having. Don't get me wrong, I myself suffer from that and really care about the outfits, brands, gadgets, accessories and things I carry but I'm trying my best to change and nowadays wearing clothes and shoes that I really like and not just because they are expensive or for the external validation.
The worst is that their neighbor Japan also buys a lot of brands, the iPhone marketshare is superior to Android phones in general but I have never really saw any kind of judgment behavior regarding this.
It's not specific to South Korea. It's very similar in Japan, China and Thailand too. Most of those who have money, will use it to flex. It likely stems from the rapid economy growth. Rapid growth causes huge inequality in the population and those who were fortunate like to classify themselves above those who got left behind. This can be from owning expensive products, to speaking in a different way or purposely speaking a foreign language when you have no reason to. By the time the economic growth slows down, the classification has already been integrated into the culture and is very difficult to remove (and the Asian celebrities do not help at all). The only place outside of Asia where I have seen such luxury brand nonsense is France.
Koreans are hilarious to be honest. They take consumerism to a whole new level. And North Face is trash brand here in the USA where it's originates but the Koreans eat it up like it's Louis Vuitton. They even made a fake National Geographic brand that wasn't even made by The National Geographic lmfao. I don't know any other society that gets tricked into buying things more than the Koreans. If it's Foreign made, they'll love it. If it's made in Korea it's "poor". Meanwhile it's the opposite here in America, we try to buy things made in the USA for higher quality (minus the luxury European brands)

At this rate, using an iPhone is a fashion statement. The big apple logo on its back really reminds me of loud luxury brands. It's big, it catches your attention and especially it looks extravagant. Does the phone look good? Maybe, but that isn't what their users are looking for

Right! I had an iPhone for 2.5 years and it’s underwhelming. I was with Android for years and planning on switching back in 2024. NGL, it seems like people from countries with more widespread poverty are the only people who actually cares about iPhones. In my country you just assume that everyone can afford the same "basic things", and an iPhone isn't a flex here. In fact, we'd make fun of people complaining about their poor iPhone battery, because they made a poor purchase. In my country being smart with your money is a flex. You spend on high quality, not on brand loyalty, and saving up to buy something like a Balenciaga t-shirt is embarrassing, because you were fooled into paying a premium for some letters pressed on an HM t-shirt by a child worker. Obscure handmade stuff is much cooler. I'd appreciate it if a person shows his/her true colors by judging others because of their phone choice. That's a giveaway that they're stupid or at best, uneducated. Someone you clearly don't want to have as a partner or be associated with. Go ahead and judge.
But it's actually a great filter, meeting a person with such superficial standards is not really worth the time so if they're uncovered early it's for the best.
its capitalism dude. s.korea is way more capitalistic than conservative libertarian boomer americans could ever dream for so it was inevitable the same hyperconsumerist trends develop in society there as did and still is present in the usa. Think stanley cups or spotify vs apple music. why bumlick a billion dollar company like apple or samsung when they dont give af about other working class people like oneself, namely their employees. i didnt like the way apple made so many anti-consumer and anti-trust changes so i bought the flip5 after multiple iphones but after learning about the evil of samsung and their monopolistic behaviour over s.k.'s markets id rather have bought one from another brand.
Ok so I've had people from my lecture (i study marketing) straight up ignore my friend and i during a group project because we don't have iphones. They claimed they "couldn't airdrop the pictures" we wanted to use for the project and straight up left lmao. We were flabbergasted to say the least.

Well, at least my Samsung phone is a superficial person detector It’s kinda ironic that I have an iPad Pro though, for procreate, while I’m a Samsung phone user all the way
I had a nice android phone, when my business started to take off and I made some money my girlfriend told me that it was time for me to throw the android in the trash and have some self respect and buy an iPhone.
I had a Galaxy flip phone earlier this year. When I went to South Korea for vacation, I was excited to shop for pretty phone casing for it. I was greatly disappointed though with how few options I had when I got there. The stores I went to all carried a variety of iPhone cases, but only a very few cases for my Galaxy phone. And there I was thinking South Korea would give me tons of options since it’s the home of Samsung. 😢 I guess that just shows how much South Koreans prefer iPhones over Samsung and other Android phones.
Wouldn't it be likely as iphones are the slab and hence easy to make phone cases, but with flip and fold phones, you need to be the one to do the testing and research to make it work, and not many case makers can't afford to do that if they profit out of buying cases and adding another colour or design to it
I currently work here in Korea and yes I can testify that most teenagers or young adults here are using iphones I rarely see anyone using Samsung. On the other hand most of my coworkers here on our company who are on their 40s-50s all of them are using Samsung 😅
It's weird, from what Ive read South Korean' economic miracle' happened in part because south Koreans were fiercely loyal to their own industries. Allowing them to go from being one of the poorest countries in the world to a 1st world country.
As a Vietnamese, I always take Korea and Japan as an example of the loyalty of local product support in their country. But since Apple entered the market, that loyalty seems to be changed.
I guess it is a worldwide thing, to be honest. It is just that social dynamics are a bit different in South Korea with Samsung being a huge Korean company. I live in Russia and a huge percentage of young people in big cities tend to prefer iPhones. No one really mocks Android users but it is still a stable trend. Just a few years ago (2019), I've read that 50% of young people (18-24) in Russia own an iPhone with peaks in huge cities like St. Petersburg (60%). Anecdotally, most of young women I know use an iPhone. It all has become especially weird when Russia invaded Ukraine and the country along with many companies got sanctioned. Nowadays, iPhones in Russia are much more expensive, harder to get, and even less repairable since Apple has ceased to operate in Russia. Moreover, you can't use Apple Pay and national contactless payment systems like Mir Pay and Sber Pay are only available on Android; you can't even legally download a banking app from App Store because nearly all Russian banks are sanctioned, so you either have to go to bank's office to get an app installed or wait until app developers temporarily upload it to App Store while masquerading as something unrelated to the organization. And even when taking all of this into account, people still keep buying iPhones. Such a clownery.
classic young people mentality, its sad - even younger kids wants an iphone and they will be happier to get an iphone 7, 8 or 10 than getting an equal current mid-range phone that offers technically better performance, camera & display. But its a common trend, go with the luxury brand - even if its garbage and bad quality - doesnt matter: its the name they want to have & use. so they can say "i have an iphone."
I live in Russia too and i think iphone madness here has evolved into a gender thing. I have many friends of both genders I know only one girl with an android and only one guy with an iphone (and yes, they are dating). Here, iphones are considered more feminine, i guess, because of the better selfies on apple and more tech knowledge required on an android. If you are a guy and you use apple, it is either you are working in marketing and advertising, or you are really far from being tech savvy.
@@gm66884 I think it has a lot to do with Apple's social media marketing tactics. Like, there are a lot of Apple products imagery on various types of social media: unboxing videos and setup guides on TH-cam with an emphasis on aesthetics, cute iPhone photos on Pinterest, the fact that many influencers use iPhones, and so on. After all, social media fashion is a huge factor for many young people. Especially if we're talking about young female demographic. I wouldn't say that there are no men who use iPhones. Some of the most tech-savvy guys I know use iPhones for one reason or another, and I know quite a lot of tech-savvy guys, trust me. Just as I wouldn't say that there are no women who use Androids. In fact, I know a lot of girls who use Android phones and I am a part of this demographic myself: the phone lying on my table is not an iPhone, it is a Pixel phone; I am a dedicated Android user, and the set of software habits I have would not allow me to use an iOS device. Nor would I say that Android phones require more tech knowledge. I guess, if that was the case, older people would be more likely to use iPhones but anecdotally among the older people I know, I can only recall one iPhone user.
@@gm66884 nah I always see both genders rocking new IPhones and they don't give AF that Apple sanctioned Russia to death and you can't do anything other than text call and browse TH-cam but they still gonna spend their parents paycheck on newest Iphone to take selfies in mirror 😂
Someone with an iPhone looks to me as if they're old and/or don't know how to handle money. Especially if they've got everything Apple and get the latest phone every year. They're just wasting money for perceived convenience. Maybe it's also a little different here in the Netherlands. Now for the question "are you broke?" Well, I'm in my twenties without any debts and can save more than half of what I earn from working at a tech company full time, can you say the same?
I think that's the difference here. I'm from Norway, which is a fairly rich country, and we don't have that discussion here either. There is also the perception that iPhones are for people who don't know tech or are photographers. People can afford any phone they want, which means that what phone you have means next to nothing.
A popular joke in US is making fun of people because you get a green bubbled text message(Android) from them instead of a blue iMessage. I always found the whole thing stupid as some androids especially the newest galaxy’s have always been ahead of iPhones hardware wise.
The real joke is when you dig into this subject and find out the whole green/blue bubble difference is actually the result of the iPhone's outdated protocol. So in reality stupid Iphone users are making fun of people for having a device with a more advanced tech.
@@valentinvas6454Blue bubble means set via the iMessage platform through the internet whereas green bubble indicates an SMS/MMS via mobile networks. Also you can force SMS on iPhone to make it appear with a green bubble
Especially young Koreans seem to be very materialistic. There is also a thing where they waste all their money buying brand clothes and bags and shoes etc.
“It’s a fact that men who use iPhones are more likeable”, yeah, I once met this guy who spat on me and kept punching me in the face and tying me up on top of a boiling pot of lava, but he’s got an iPhone so he’s cool.
No no I use a mac, I am very aware of the prison but it is the best option for me so I use like a device. My personality isn't based around a piece of electronic
The huge significance of these numbers is that the 65% young iPhone users aren’t likely to switch growing up which can completely change the market share for Samsung going forward if this trend sticks

Western culture?
So America

Should have gone to HK because all cases are made in Chi na
Wouldn't it be likely as iphones are the slab and hence easy to make phone cases, but with flip and fold phones, you need to be the one to do the testing and research to make it work, and not many case makers can't afford to do that if they profit out of buying cases and adding another colour or design to it
Google phone cameras: *Am I a joke to you*
I currently work here in Korea and yes I can testify that most teenagers or young adults here are using iphones I rarely see anyone using Samsung.
It's not a surprise that people above 40 years old are less brainwashed and I say that as a 20something y.o. guy
As a Vietnamese, I always take Korea and Japan as an example of the loyalty of local product support in their country. But since Apple entered the market, that loyalty seems to be changed.
lmao I thought South Korea had a Samsung Problem
Yeah, that was true until this past year … Even in k-dramas you will see Iphone more often (if u know what I mean)
@@Chan-cz9ohFunnily enough, Samsung makes the displays that Apple uses for the iPhones. So Samsung is going to make their money either way 😂
@@manfredsworld4706also the NAND modules are made by Samsung and cameras are manufactured by Sony.
Nah, it's a poorer people thing.
This isn't a discussion in countries with richer citizens, where buying a phone isn't a problem.
@@gm66884 nah I always see both genders rocking new IPhones and they don't give AF that Apple sanctioned Russia to death and you can't do anything other than text call and browse TH-cam but they still gonna spend their parents paycheck on newest Iphone to take selfies in mirror 😂

Their discrimination really go on another level 🙄
@@valentinvas6454the real joke is not being ridiculed for using imessage
@@valentinvas6454 thankfully they have to adopt RCS eventually (likely this year) because of EU laws once again
but my bubbles are purple (custom color scheme)? how are randos going to make fun of me now?
@@valentinvas6454Blue bubble means set via the iMessage platform through the internet whereas green bubble indicates an SMS/MMS via mobile networks. Also you can force SMS on iPhone to make it appear with a green bubble
Because a lot of people are shallow and materialistic. It's a dystopian society
Especially young Koreans seem to be very materialistic. There is also a thing where they waste all their money buying brand clothes and bags and shoes etc.
“It’s a fact that men who use iPhones are more likeable”, yeah, I once met this guy who spat on me and kept punching me in the face and tying me up on top of a boiling pot of lava, but he’s got an iPhone so he’s cool.
iPhone is like cult, once you are inside the team you will never know you are trapped!

The huge significance of these numbers is that the 65% young iPhone users aren’t likely to switch growing up which can completely change the market share for Samsung going forward if this trend sticks
Well apple kinda buys samsungs screens so theres no way they can die
@@itszify554 Not saying Samsung is going anywhere. They make great tvs and even dishwashers! But the smartphone division may suffer
