Met Eric at an Aebersold jazz camp some years ago and had the opportunity to attend one of his group lessons and hear him play with the other outstanding faculty. What a treat. Nice guy. Great musician.
Love this course concept as I've been recently delving into it from elsewhere! Might want to double check some of those notes on the transcribed sections however, I worked through a few spots right now and there are a few sections where it's not matching his playing. Then again they might have been written before he recorded the video and added his own subtle spin to them.
Hey, I actually need help.. I am a sax and clarinet player and bought a clarinet from around 1870s which came with beautiful orange mouthpiece which maybe is not as old as the clarinet it self. Since the seller told me that the mouthpiece is made of plastic and it did felt like plastic to me, I started cleaning it likewise. Dishwasher and hot water. While I was doing that, the brush turned orange, the texture changed from smooth to grippy and I had that typical hard rubber smell hitting my nose.. I stopped the process since I realised that it was a big mistake. Now I don't know how to proceed.. Is there a chance to save that piece? It was pretty dirty. Now it has a slight discoloration, smells bad which wasn't the case before and has a extreme grippy texture. I'd appreciate any tips or advices. Kind regards
Re: Ron Robins - yeah, double dominant = dominant diminished. Can't find my comment nor your reply. Honestly, I didn't really appreciate the reply "everything's explained in the course". I have bought Major and Minor Explorations and they're fine. Kinda on the fence with this one even with 40% off atm. It's not about the money, it's about not clearly presenting exactly what's on offer.
If you don’t like the course once you purchase we will refund you 100%. It would be impossible to explain everything in a TH-cam comment section. That’s why the course is there. 😀
It seems precious contents, but I never heard that definition... Why don't name it just Half-Whole Diminished? Isn't it the more commonly used name of the same scale? Just for clarity sake....
Extremely attractive !!! For a very reasonable price. Combien de temps dure la réduction de 40% ? Puisque tu es bilingue, Jay, je te demande directement en Français ! Just because j’ai besoin d’attendre two weeks to know if je peux dépenser a bit of money for a cours de saxophone online… Changer de langue plusieurs fois dans la même phrase, c’est un peu du jazz avec les mots 😁🎷
Sounds amazing yet overwhelming. How does a soloist truly understand and track what he or she is playing intellectually while being creative and flowing with their experience of the now and/or interacting with the other musicians?? For example, if I try to think to start on the root of the minor 2 and end up on the 7 of the one, and care about my rhythm and intonation, etc. ---I think I wouldn't be able to create music. I've learned a lot of theory but always end up with this question. Any positive feedback to my dilemma is welcome.
The key is the theory has to become second nature. You don’t have to think about how to spell common words or which order they go in a sentence. That language is second nature. When you practice your scales and arpeggios enough the same thing can happen with music and improvising.
I agree with what Jay said. The best practice I have been doing to incorporate this "theory" is to: Outline the harmony of what I'm playing using arpeggios. This gives solos context. Take lines in all keys. Be patient in the process. I have spent over two weeks on one part of a solo because I want to be able to play it second nature.
@@a.j.nicoll477 I've tried outline changes using some old Aebersold books and found it helpful. Thanks for the reminder. I should get back to that. With your patient attitude, I'm sure you'll get that bad boy under your fingers! What song is it?

I love listening to Eric’s lectures. Since I play only nylon string guitar and am 81 years old, I feel like I benefit from the lectures.
wow he sounds so smooth! I will definitely be purchasing when I get the funds! Thanks for the awesome video!
I learned the basic idea of this from a Carol Kaye video and I have been using it for years. And I agree that it just sounds cooler.
I love this course. Such a cool concept. If you ever struggled to get that modern jazz sound, this is the answer. Thank you Mr. Alexander!
There's a video of Dexter Gordon running that scale up and down the horn before a concert.

Thanks for this video! Eric is my absolute favorite living saxman! You're not to shabby, your own self!
I love you Jay
$35 for all of that is a phenomenal value. If only I had time to practice!
Jay- I am wanting to take this but recovering from surgery and can’t quite blow my horn now. Will this come up again!?🙏🏼
Alexander has a wife who is into acting. She has a youtube channel too. She was on Law and Order I think.
DDD40 discount code is already expired? Is there a new one?
Curious what diminished scale works over a repeating ii V vamp? Do you play the half/whole starting in the root of the V chord ?

is his mouthpiece an otto-link, which one?

If there was only one thing to practice - it would be "fast fingers". Other is manageable for me so far...
I want to super size my diminished scales.

Yes, you are correct! I didn’t really dig Eric’s course making this sound like it was some new altered scale he came up with with that title.
@@bettersax I bought it anyway 🤣 but I prefer keep naming as simple as possible...

Normalement ça va durer une quinzaine max.
Je vais me dépêcher alors. Merci !

@bassofone1 I'm transcribing Gene Ammons' solo on There Is No Greater Love, and I'm learning the first 8 bars of the solo in all 12 keys
