Great video! I really like your channel and your vibe, keep it up! I am not sure if you answered the question somewhere else, but I noticed that you were mentioning the difficulty in context switching between the Electron/React app and the iOS mobile app. Out of genuine curiosity, did you consider using react native for your app? If so, what made you decide against it? I can see pros/cons for it as a solo developer and I’d love your thoughts!
Thank you! So I did actually try to use react native in the beginning for Ellie but there were a lot of little issues I ran into (having to download a package for almost everything, out of date packages, drag and drop wasn't as smooth as I needed it to be) so I had to switch to Swift but honestly i think maybe its improved a lot over the last 2 years, going to give RN another try for my next app Luna (Android version) :)
@@raroque Thank you for your response! And yes, things are better but there is still a pretty significant gap. Just recently I had to implement from scratch the drag and drop functionality with react native gesture handler and reanimated because I needed more flexibility and I am pretty happy with the result, but it was a ton of hard work for sure. Super excited to see videos about trying RN for Luna!
Love your content bro! Stumbled upon Ellie on Reddit in my quest for a timeboxing / to-do app, and I'm glad I did! Looking forward to following your journey here.
Thank you and awesome to hear! Will actually make a video since this is a common question I get (a video on how to get started and how I would do it if I had to start all over again)
New Subscriber! I also starting learning iOS dev. But can you clear me out i am still in the beginning and theres one confusion, should I start with SwiftUI? Cause i've been practising on UIKit. Because now I am thinking that now I should learn the SwiftUI because its 2024 and majority of the apps will develop using SwiftUI including the apps for VisionOS. Please drop your suggestion. Also one thing more regarding the todo widget, you can also make the widget interactive like swiping within the widget to change profiles(from personal to work), etc. Thank You.
Thanks for subscribing! I would personally recommend starting with SwiftUI :) And this is coming from someone who and this is coming from someone who started with UIKit. I think there is a lot of amazing resources around SwiftUI and a pretty big community now I haven’t run into many cases where I haven’t been able to do something with SwiftUI either, I think it’s solid And thanks for the tip! Will look into it :)
