An idea for a challenge u could do: make a song from just lyrics, basically take a song you’ve never listened to before, just read the lyrics, and try to construct the rest of the song (melody, rhythms, instrumentals) around the lyrics. Then see how it compares to the original.
@@moviesquad73i would say theyre trying ti make a joke but i wouldnt be surprised if swifties genuinely made up levels to distinguish themselves from eachother

when you first picked out that big bass synth for the chorus i laughed so hard bc it sounded WAY too aggressive, but it actually worked incredibly well so guess who’s laughing now? still taylor swift probably
I can't believe you're talking about string cheese right now. I have just been eating string cheese for the first time in a decade. I didn't even know it would string until someone pointed it out to me because on previous occasions it was in fact just a stick of cheese and no string action whatsoever. I became jaded to the possibility of string. I'm seeing the world in a new way. then you come along acting like you don't know I have a whole string cheese thing going on rn
I think as the audience, only hearing the one instrument being added is good. It gives a vague idea of what it will sound like, and us hearing what you can't is some nice dramatic irony!
Am I the only one who liked the vocals on “I can make all the tables turn”? It was a little pop punk / emo and makes me want to hear a whole song from Dev in that style. Maybe a panic at the disco song?
this is the first video of this series i’ve seen, and i understand why people were complaining about the music-making-surprise ratio. i just wanna say, she found it. this is perfect. keep it up
IMO this is the winning formula for this series (listen to the song + take notes, let us hear a lil bit as it comes along, and more or less picking songs you're familiar with), but I do also miss something about you writing lyrics in the style of other artists like the earlier vids. Maybe that can be a separate series, where you make lyrics for existing karaoke/instrumental tracks? Or just find soundcloud beats to rap like Eminem over, I could probably watch that for hours.
You should do this with a guest, where the guest acts as your ears. They can hear the song and have to give you guidance on the process. Ideally the guest being a non-musician.
I’ve been having a rough day, and this has basically become my comfort video. I’ve watched it like 5 times since it came out. Something about watching you succeed at making art makes me happy and inspired. Thanks for making this video, Dev.
Nailing the chimes interval really got my brain on your side because every time I thought it started straying from what I expected the chimes came in and made me hear what I thought it was supposed to be. But points off for lack of pen click sound. Definitely better than Thunder, behold the power of note taking and knowing the source material.
i can't stop watching the part where you actually play the song especially the part where the bass kicks in in the chorus... it's just genuinely so good and accurate
YOU ARE A GODDAMN GENIUS and anyone who says otherwise has never tried what you just pulled off here. Stumbled across your channel with this video first and am an INSTANT fan. I know pro production peeps with decades of experience who would never dare to even try this, let alone get anywhere near what you produced in a single shot without hearing a damn thing. Honestly LOVE how this turned out, and seeing you so proud of yourself!! It was actually pretty cool hearing you do the "ding dongs" to get to the right note, you know what tf you're doing!!!
As someone who recently served jury duty, they don't actually have the stenographer write everything down! For the trial I was on, she had a special phone-like apparatus that she dictated the entire trial into, and the judge and lawyers would repeat things if she missed them. It was super interesting!
I can't tell if I like the wins or the fails more. It's always a good time watching these vids. Challenge idea: Recreate a full song using only a single instrument/sample by pitching and filtering. Is that even a challenge in a DAW? Is that even funny or interesting to watch? Idono.
um i like the commentary videos too but ive been enjoying this era and if you never made them again and stuck to music and challenges i would stick here and keep watching cause its the person that makes the things good and not the things, can i get an amen clarence? im german btw

this is a certified monkeys on typewriter writing shakespeares hamlet moment

it's like Hamlet with spelling errors but to the extent that you still know it's Hamlet which lowkey makes it more impressive

waiting for the vocals and the beat to line up gives the same vibe as waiting for the dvd logo to hit the corner of the screen perfectly
i actually cannot believe how this turned out i love seeing dev in the corner also being shocked at how amazing this was
you fucking crushed this one, also you should look into court stenography it's fucking wild
I guess this proves Taylor Swift made this song in a music editor just by picking the second option for everything.

i think Kick Maniac does tease the potential of a video where you intentionally choose the most bizarre noises
