4th retail horror story: I'm a cashier and the stores about to close in 2 minutes and a customer walks in and grabs a shopping cart

One lady walked in like 5 mins befor closing and them she grabbed 20 things and then kept complaining becuase she didn't understand what buy one get one 50% off works and she asked 10 times and now i wanna quit
I had a lady come in and I was like “We close in-“ and she said “8 minutes I know!” and was there after the time we are supposed to close. We already had a long ass line of people finally coming to check out! I just wanted to go home 🙄

CVS allows one employee to run a store? Yikes. When I worked retail the policy was never less than two employees in a store at a time. For safety reasons. I always thought it was like... In case of robbery or if an employee had a heart attack or something. But crazy stalkers are a good reason too.
Times weren't always like this though. Clerks being killed by being the only associate is why some stores changed their policies. However hard times still have only 1 clerk in duty because they cant afford 2.
I think that was a lie as well. You have to have at least two employees for safety reasons. Some of these stories, although entertaining, are completely full of shit and untrue.

4th Horror Story:
It was our turn at the register, and my mom hasn't come back yet
The cashier looked at me, his gaze showing his annoyance. I looked behind me and saw nothing but impatient customers. I tried to see if my mom had left her wallet in the cart so I could pay on my own. There was nothing but the many groceries. I suddenly heard my mom running towards the cart. I sighed with relief but then she said, “I can’t find it. You pay and I’ll be back.” I was relieved as I pulled out her credit card. I went to swipe the card but when I did the scanner simply said, “Credit Card Declined”. I chuckled nervously and continued swiping but the same text kept appearing. I tried one more time and then- PLAY RAID SHADOW LEGENDS!!!
I eventually gave up with a sigh pulling the cart to the side waiting for my mother. When she came back she seemed confused and a bit mad. I told what had happened and she sighed shaking her head going to the ATM. Trying to check her balance but the ATM simply wouldn't work. Everyone else could but for some reason she kept getting an error receipt. The fiery in her eyes blazed, knowing I have a Spanish mother makes this even more terrifying.. She stormed over to customer service just when-- *AFK Arena is fun and free to play!*

Of course the first one is a CVS story 😂 I just quit working for them and was with them for 6 years in management. I'm so happy to no longer be working for them, they've really gone down hill as far as their treatment of employees. The last straw for me was my boss passing away in our store and only being given the afternoon off and having to come in the same night to close out the day. They're a large company and "couldn't find anyone else". My boss passing away there was traumatic for all of us. Worst company ever and if I could sue I would but I don't have that money. It'll be something I'll always remember.

The first story brought back memories. I was a manager at a 24 hour Rite Aid and would work occasional overnights. Routine boredom was definitely punctuated by the occasional unsettling experience here and there. The store was in an affluent neighborhood but rich people are people too. There are plenty of wealthy creeps and hooligans, believe me.
Anyway, I always had at least one other employee with me overnight. I knew of a few times where one overnight employee did not show up and the other employee stayed alone in the open store overnight. The employee who stayed alone was a man and probably didn’t think too much about safety in that situation. I on the other hand, always knew that if I somehow found myself in the same predicament without another person to be with me overnight I’d simply lock the doors when the last cashiers left around 10pm. Perhaps leave a little apology note on the door.
I would stock shelves, set planograms, put up sale signs. I would work the entire shift. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to risk my safety for a corporation to earn a few extra pennies. I’m aware that I’d most likely be fine….but I’ve encountered so many unsettling customers during DAY shifts that make me not want to even take that chance.

That is so fair, your safety is more important than the measly $50 they could make. I would do the same. I used to work late night shopping shifts (9pm finish) and even in a big shopping centre after 8pm I would get lots of creeps and weirdos coming into the store. Couldn’t imagine being totally alone in a pharmacy with no other shops or security around

I knew someone (call her “Gladys”) who worked at Target as a Cart Attendant. That particular Target is too cheap to hire custodians, so they force the Cart Attendants to clean the bathrooms. Gladys was told to clean the bathroom, given only a plunger and nothing else. When she got to the toilet, she saw that the “Guest” (Target forces employees to refer to customers as “Guests”) had left that bathroom stall a real horror show.
That “Guest” had defecated their pants, all over the wall, the top of the toilet, and the floor around the toilet. They had tried to flush their feculent underwear down the toilet (but it wouldn’t go down), left a pile of toilet paper in the bowl along with the underwear, and had clogged it. Gladys refused to clean it up, since they gave her flak about wanting gloves and wouldn’t let her have any disinfectant or other cleaning products, just a plunger. She taped up an “out of order” sign on the stall door and quit right there on the spot. I heard they had to call a hazmat crew and a plumber.
Now that's a horror show.

I kind of feel sorry for the first woman... We had a neighbor who had a mental disorder and would often harm herself... never anyone else. At first no one really noticed because she stayed at home pretty much all day... then it became more visible, especially when she went outside in the summer, laying in her garden. one day a post man noticed blood on the front porch and called the police... she slit open both of her arms and removed both her ears... that was a sad day. She made it but still..... she was all alone. I never fully understand how she was able to rent an apartment in the first place, maybe she developed the psychosis afterwards. Hope she’s okay.

There’s a cvs type drugstore in my neighborhood that is haunted. I’ve heard some stories from the employees but they aren’t that scary (loud bangs, running water sounds when no water is running).. One story was about a parent waiting in the parking lot for their teen to finish her shift. When the girl came out, the dad asked who the other employee is who was walking the aisles. She said she was working alone on the floor while her manager was in the basement.
Wow, I mean I don’t get creeped out often, but this is the scariest Mr Nightmare vid I’ve seen in a while, the ambient fridge sound, the horror suspenseful music, the flickering light like this one had me checking over my shoulder

As a Lowe’s worker, I can assure you that overnight crews don’t wear their work clothes as they don’t need to. They just wear whatever they want they don’t need to wear the vest
Not only that, but I find it surprising he would be working a night shift mostly by himself. I work at Home Depot and we have a decent size freight team that works at nights. Maybe it's different for Lowes.
I also work at Lowe’s and can assure you that the night crew consists of 10 guys stocking shelves. So that story seems pretty sus
I work freight at depot too and found that odd. The store has to have a min of 2 people in it no matter what. And one person can’t stock all the freight for a store alone. And why would he travel to different stores? They can all just have their own set freight team. Idk about Lowe’s but ar depot we wouldn’t have a bunch of boxes sitting unmoved in receiving for even a whole day much less a week.

The entire story for the Lowe's one is wrong. There is no warehouse area in Lowe's stores. The store is a warehouse. The store's alarm is armed and you can't just "evacuate" the building. The alarm will go off even if you open the trash, and can't even get into the garden center. There has to be a manager in the building at all times with the alarm codes. There are no flex positions that go around different stores.

I have to question when these stories happened, or if they were even true. My family has worked retail for many decades, and even in the age of no OSHA laws, no retail op would leave an employee alone in a huge store with millions of dollars of product. One person cannot stock an entire store in one night. It's not possible.
The ONLY retail ops who would allow one person at night, were the small convenience stores, and all it takes is one crime over night, and the city stops that. Either they close the store over night or have two people per store.

I've seen where the more you try to work with them the more ridiculous they become. I've also seen where the proletariat commrad worker/s have complained to osha about unsafe working conditions and osha does nothing, even when the problem are chemicals. Osha is very corrupt and they can be the problem even a nightmare.

My comment was not about politics. It was stating the facts of Logistics. One person cannot restock an entire WalMart overnight, period.
Corporations would never leave an entire store full of millions of dollars of product in the hands of One Person. That facilitates theft: either from the employee or general criminals.
