ALSO the mermaid, the witch and the sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall is about a pirate and a lady escaping a forced marriage and running into mermaids, witches and the sea herself on the way to freedom! Did I mention the other pirate is a woman? Yep! This book also is LGBT+ and I couldn't reccomend it more!

I never saw the prince as an evil character in The Little Mermaid. He simply loved another and wasn’t aware of the mermaid’s situation until the very end. It’s a cautionary tale, that even if you sacrifice everything for someone, it won’t inherently mean that they’ll love you back. In the end, even the mermaid saw that. She doesn’t kill the prince with the enchanted dagger when she gets the chance, because she realises that he’s innocent and that it would be wrong to end his life for her own benefit. It’s a tragic story.

    • @Widdekuu91
      @Widdekuu91 ปีที่แล้ว +143

He wasn´t evil, but he was a tad ignorant, as any young man would probably be.
He did not understand why she was crying, while she was quite clearly in love with him. He just thought she was being nice and touchy.
He did not remember her, didn't fully register at least, but he gladly half/conciously listened to her singing, which she assumed was a special moment that created a bond.
There is a similar thing in Sleeping beauty, where she was being kept away from her curiosity (for the mermaid, it's humans) that she eventually brings herself into danger to find out about it. Don't keep your daughters and sons naïve and unaware, because it's more dangerous to go out with no knowledge about what's out there.
You'll end up, in the case of Sleeping Beauty, touching stuff, bleeding, birthing two kids and not having a prince in the end.

POV: Icy saltwater churns against my face as my flowing tears fall to join the sea. My tail cuts through the waves in powerful strokes and I desperately fight against the raging current, my seashell studded dagger pressed to my chest.
Not long ago, I had dreams of a beautiful future, a life with my lover under the stars. Today, that changed forever.
He was a sailor, with cerulean eyes that shone even brighter than the moon. Those eyes were filled with amazement and wonder the day we met, taking me in as he locked my gaze. He had anchored his ship with a sudden force that sent sea spray lapping against the rocks upon which I was siting. Fear had surged through me as he stepped off, and my fingers froze, halfway through braiding pearls in my hair. I had never met anyone like him before, anyone brave enough to approach a siren. My whole life I had been taught to weave enchanting stories through song, to lure men into quiet madness before they could reveal the hidden truths of our world. It was the only way to remain safe, unthreatened. But something about him was different, strangely comforting. So I never sang, and we just sat there, talking as we watched the sunset.
I trusted him with my life, my love, and everything I had. He betrayed me.
He sought to exploit us, expose us. He spun tales about mermaids to wealthy merchants, promising business in the healing powers of our blood and lockets made from our scales. Now we are hunted, no longer an old legend. And I have to be the one to set things right. I will sing until my voice breaks and my lips bleed raw. I will fight to protect my family. I will put my blade through his heart. Never again will I trust.

I’ve been Ariel before. I was the muse that a man was in love with the idea of. And when I needed him the most, he left me. He kept coming back on his terms. And each time I let him. He only wanted one thing, and it took everything in me to break those ties. And it felt like turning into sea foam. But no one mentions how free you feel when you’ve walked away. Ive healed frkm then on and found a love that makes me feel so much hope and tenderness. There is hope for love, it comes when you leas expect it. If you are in a bad relationship, it’s okay to leave to protect yourself. You don’t owe them a thing. I believe in you.

POV: you're sat on a rock in the ocean looking over a beach that sits below a large village.
You watch children play in the sand and run from the approaching waves, just like you'd always longed to do. You longingly look down to your sparkling tail as the waves trickle over it. A feeling of guilt washes over you for dreaming of leaving the sea but your desire to run and feel the sand and grass under feet outweighs the guilt. You know you can never approach the land people and feel the dry sand, your people have before but were treated like monsters, strung up and showcased in a cage for the rest of their lives. So you were stuck to merely dreaming of land.
You carried on gazing at the playing children, while humming one of your peoples beautiful melodies as the sun began to set when suddenly you hear a gasp from behind you. You turn and see a young man sat within a small rowing boat staring directly at you. Going against your instincts to swim away you don't move and continue to gaze into his eyes, just as he does to you, he doesn't scream or try to leave.
You hear him whisper to himself "I must be dreaming", you tilt your head and reply "You and me both".
The waves calmly hit the side of his boat as you begin to speak to each other and you stay for what seems like hours. As the stars begin to light up the night sky he tells you he has to return home, and begins to row to shore, but as he leaves he shouts to you with a smile on his face "Please come back, so I know I'm not dreaming" you smile and nod before diving into the deep blue water, a feeling of warmth you've never felt before spreading throughout your body.
You return to the rock the next day and he is already waiting for you, but this time in the water. You talk and laugh all day, learning about the world you're forbidden to explore, just as he does yours. His words sweet like honey and his touch as gentle as the waves deeply entrance you.
You meet at your spot almost everyday for months, you know you're in love with him and he with you. He brings you so much joy and happiness, you can't bare to be apart for too long. However, with your love comes bitterness, you know you can't be with him, he cannot survive in your world and you're a monster in his.
You have spoken of your future once and he's assured you he doesn't care about your differences and that he will always love you more than anything, but you know one day this wont be enough.
As winter approaches and seas become stormy you continue to meet your forbidden love. Despite the dangers he refuses to go a day without being with you.
One especially stormy day his boat capsized, you fought your way through the current to him but he was unconscious with blood coming from his head. You didn't know what to do, the love of your life was dying in your arms.
You swam to the shore and got him onto the sand and screamed as loud as you could for what felt like a lifetime. Soon villagers came down and found your love lying on the sand. From behind a rock you watched as he was taken into the safety and warmth of the houses, you prayed he would survive. But you knew then, your love couldn't continue.
Days went by before you saw him again. He was rowing to your meeting place but you weren't to be seen, you were hidden under the waves. You watched as he waited. As time went on you could see the pain in his eyes, it tore you apart, you wanted nothing more than to go to him, but you knew your love couldn't protect him from the dangers in your world.
He returned everyday for weeks and you never showed yourself to him, even when he screamed and cried out for you. Soon he stopped coming. You had broken your heart to save his.
You returned to your shared place occasionally over the next few years, to remember your love and the joy you shared, but, despite your dreams he was never there.
Many years later on your annual return to your much loved rock and village beach, there was a familiar boat with a familiar face sat within it. From a distance you watched as the familiar person turned in your direction. It was him. Your love. Except he wasn't alone. A young girl sat upon his lap.
You listened as he told the girl stories of a beautiful mermaid who roamed the waters singing enchanting melodies, stories of you.
It warmed your heart to see the happiness in his eyes as he thought of you. The pair remained for a while but as they were leaving you sang aloud the song you had sung the day you met. Suddenly he turned and you locked eyes almost instantly. Without saying a word he knew then why you had left him. You had given him up so he could have a life, you had given your life for his.
A tear fell down your cheek and into the water as all your pent up emotions were released. You knew you had done the right thing letting him go. You both smiled at each other and you saw the sun hit a tear falling from his eye.
You slowly submerged yourself back under the ocean and watched from a distance as he rowed back to shore with his child. They climbed out of the boat and ran across the sand, as he reached the village he turned and waved towards the ocean, towards you. You felt a wave of relief wash over you knowing he had lived his life.
Your love for each other had never disappeared, he was still the man you had met all those years ago. He was still the love of your life, its just you were no longer his..
if u made it to the end, ❤️ thank u

sorry for the TLDR: People argue about this, but there is no point- They are the same, but not the same, the same but not the same. It depends on person to person nowadays since lore has become diluted with other things like unicorns being just stupid rainbow shitting horses with horns when originally they signified several virtues and strength and looked like a cross between a goat, deer and horse depending on the region. But in regards to the siren/mermaid dilemma if you look at it they came from two separate myths. Generally mermaids were friendly and granted boons, like Madison in Splash- Madison gave Allen the gift of underwater breathing + protection from the crushing ocean depths and ability to see underwater. My friend tries to explain it as sirens are "evil mermaids" while friendly mermaids are just mermaids but it doesn't make sense really when put that way, so I think of them as two separate entities. But they're what you want them to be, there is no wrong answer anymore. If you want to go based on simplistic modern terms and call them the same, then they're the same. If you wanna separate them based on more original myths then that's okay too.

“I promise” she swore. “I promise by all the gods, I will love you forever and a day.”
The young girl was transfixed. Here was the loveliest creature she’d ever seen. And the most peculiar. The milkiest skin folding into the sharpest of scales. Plumpest lips uttering the wildest oaths.
“But tell me, what are you?”
“Oh but does it matter my dear? Does anything matter at all other than love? The aching of my heart and the cries of my soul all for you?”
Their lips met and the waves crashed. The thrum of their spirits deafening. The girl’s body erupted in flames.
She reaches for her lover and they swayed in the moonlight. They danced and twirled till the sky turned liquid. Till her lungs filled with pain and her smile went wry. Till her skin turned blue and her world turned black.
    The oceans screamed for her.
A single broken sob pierces the uproar and the world drowns in quiet. Time stops and ears split.
    “I am so sorry.”
The mermaids rejoice with their friend exclaiming their content. Their jeers of joy go unheard.
    “Where did she go?”
    “Oh who bloody cares?”
“Probably swimming in pride. I know I'd be.”
The sea carries the corpse landward. The young girl is not found till dawn. Her body oddly warm and her hair braided with weed. Her state most strange. She looks loved and in love. A smile so small you could miss it pressing against her lips.
When the men arrived they vow they saw a woman weeping by her side. A broken little thing that ran at their sight.
The horizon mourned her for millennia. The tides broke in sorrow. Day after day after day till an old nymph washed ashore. Her scales gone dull and her skin pale. Her wrinkly, pained face spoke of a beautiful youth. The same quiet smile pressed against her lips.
    Together at long last.

    A Sea's Healing (Short Story)
(Thank you to this playlist and the comments because without them, I would have never found the drive or inspiration to write this piece.)
    “My boy!”
Anguished screams of a father fill the open area of a battlefield as a young, raven haired man lay in tattered clothes, stained red from the bloodstains of his enemies and himself. A gruesome yet heart-rending scene lay before the far and few allies the two men had left. Equal in contrast to the harrowing moment, harsh winds of the cliffside rage on, the bleak afternoon sky hindering the shine of the sun as dark clouds blanket the atmosphere, the call of the crashing waves below only create more of a cacophony alongside the sobs and cries of the man whom held his deceased son.
“Icarius...Why? Why you?!” It was a gut wrenching sight to behold, not from the torn and gouged abdomen of the soldier as the army was quite used to seeing such a horrendous aftermath, but the mere fact that the once strong and fearless commander before them sat in shambles, clutching his son for dear life, the sound of something so unheard of falling from the lips of the older man. The soldiers knew the risk of having the son of the commander partake in the same battle as him, and even he himself knew, but he turned a blind eye, facing pride that his son was such a skillful and excited soul on the field. All happiness had soon turned to ash as Icarius was brutally butchered only feet away from his father, Themond.
“It’s time to bring him to the sea. It’s only fitting as it’s the God we follow. Bring him home.”
Whimpers followed suit as Themond continued to grasp the lifeless body of the boy. With pained grunts, a few fellow soldiers stepped forward to pry the father from the son. It was a bit of a struggle to loosen Icarius from the unflinching hold of his father, but eventually body separated from body and to the cliffside they carried him. A few words of a prayer had been said between the group as the elder cried behind them on the blood-soaked grass, and with a hum, they sent the fallen soldier into the deadly seas below.
Down under the violent waves peacefully settled was a woman, eyes as grey and stormy as the skies above, skin as pale and shimmery as a pearl, and hair a beautiful shade of silver that shined with each movement under the water. The upper half of her frame seemed relatively normal, until eyes traveled south to take the sight of a fish tail. It shimmered much like her skin, but held a pearlescent hue to it. Ivory skin faded to a soft blue, scales, and fins protruding from the sides that accentuated the length of what would be human legs. A mermaid.
Having only been by her lonesome self, buying a ticket of serenity, the woman had been pulled from her tranquil state as the corpse of Icarius landed on the surface of the ocean, his body sinking under the depths only a short swim away. Oriah, her name was, barely paid any mind to the body, until the streaks of red trailed the body, his blood reaching for breath as his vessel of a frame drowned. Wide eyes took over the face of the woman as she quickly set off into a speedy swim towards the descending body, a goal that even unclear to her had been in mind.
Stretching out her arms, she envelopes the wounded soldier and pulls him close to her as she begins her ascension to the surface. Oriah grunted as she struggled to pull the limp body of Icarius to fresh air, undermining the weight of his body beneath the pressurized waves. Upon their heads breaking through the water, the woman cried out, making sure to keep his own well above the water that rushed at them like a thousand stallions in a cavalry charge. She looked around frantically, searching for a spot to lay his body, finding a protruding rock not far from where she bobbed. With a set destination in mind, Oriah swam with all she could, towing the sea water soaked man in a tight grasp.
Huffing, she flopped both of their bodies onto the slab of rock, rolling the body of the man onto his back. His curly black locks fell into his face, and with a gentle touch, she pushed them aside to look at the features of the man. Even though an adult, he still held boyish features. His skin smooth and pale, long lashes that even she was jealous of, and lips that were painted a soft pink hue, defying the aftereffects of a life taken. She in her time had seen many rosy lips turn blue after death, but his, remained full and vibrant.
Focusing on the task at hand, Oriah pulled away from his figure and sought out where the extent of his wounds came from. Pushing up his shirt, she saw the bloody sight that had been hidden from her only moments prior. A gasp filled the air and with shaky hands, she covered the injury, her steel eyes closing. As the two sat in the empty abyss of the sea shore, Oriah began humming a hauntingly beautiful tune. The winds and waves picked up with each note, causing such a disturbance to the band of soldiers and a broken commander above on the cliffside.
“I reach out to you, Sea God, and pray for you to heal this man. Wash his wounds with your water, replenish his health, and bring him back to me. Save him. Fix him. Please…”
The once roaring waters calmed into a still wake, and the winds diminished into a light breeze. Opening her eyes, the mermaid was met with the gentle shine of the sun's rays peeking out from behind the angry clouds. No movement came from the body of Icarius, and silently, she sank beneath the ocean, pushing herself several feet away from the rock in which the human lay. With only her eyes peeking above the surface, she watched as seconds passed, hoping that God answered her call. It was subtle, the way his eyes moved under his eyelids, how the blood slowly came to a stop and his wounds healed to scars, and how those lips twitched as he awoke.
Pushing himself to sit up, Icarius looked around him to take in the surrounding area. There had been nothing out of the ordinary besides two grey eyes that caught his movement. He had been quick to rub his eyes as he thought the trauma from his injury had gotten to his head, causing him to hallucinate such a bizarre sight, and taking this moment to her advantage, Oriah disappeared, shadowing herself with the foam of the ocean.
On land, Themond and his men had been packing up what they could, some saddling themselves upon their war torn horses. Shuffles from behind the group sounded, catching the attention of the older man as he strapped equipment to his steed. Turning his head in curiosity to what had been making such a noise, Themond was met with the sight of his very much alive son.
    “Father…”
The two were quick to embrace each other, tears filling and falling from each of their eyes as they cried in happiness. Even the soldiers, who were in shock from the appearance of a man they presumed dead, teared up at the scene that unfolded before them. Closing his eyes, Icarius held his father as the familiar sound of a hum faintly filled his ears. A song he had heard as he floated into the grasp of death. And in his mind, he recalled those striking grey eyes, the same eyes that belonged to the unknown woman who had saved him without a second thought.
    '𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶?' he thought.
The wind then carried a word his way, nearly believing that this had been another trick of his mind, but once those syllables reached him, he knew he had gotten his answer.
    "𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘩."

    ****ANGST AHEAD****
POV: They hauled the mermaid onboard the vessel. Her screams were deafened by the cries of the waves crashing against the ship, as if Poseidon himself held on fast to the masts and hulls and thrashed them, commanding them to release a daughter of the sea. As if the tears he cried were the white foam that sprayed against the sailors legs, a father's plead. But mortals are no longer ruled by gods.
On this ship, they are ruled by the Captain.
Each mortal bore a dagger in his hands, and a hunger so ravenous drenched their eyes for jewels that adorned the mermaid's tail.
Her breath was wild and frantic. She looked up and saw the Captain of the ship--her lover. Her lips quivered as he smiled down upon her. "I trusted you."
He kneeled down before her. Caressed her cheek and a flood of memories pooled into her mind like a riptide pulling her towards all the tender words, tender vows, tender touches they exchanged under the golden hour, where land meets sea.
    "I know."
He was the first to stab her with a dagger, cutting out a jewel from her scales. There was no hesitation, no remorse, no regret. He took a piece of her, blood dripping down his hands, and basked in its beauty.
    He turned his back.
    "No, please---"
The onslaught of daggers that followed felt like she was tossed into a shiver of frenzied sharks. Each cut, each slash, each taking the best parts of her they lusted after. Leaving the parts they didn't want as undesirable and ugly. The pain knocked her in and out of consciousnesses. Finally, she was left battered, misshapen, and torn.
She looked down at her tail in horror. Wailing.
They pulled her from her tail. Pain searing through her, raw and red. Grabbing scale, flesh and bone without mercy. Tossing her into the waves below.
As she watched the storm rage above from below the rolling waves, she sank further and further into the cool embrace of her home. Leaving rivulets of red in her descent. Betrayed by her love. There was no love among mortal men. There were only three things in life she could be sure of: herself, the sea, and the ocean floor to catch her fall.

There is this saying about some type of mermaids called "selkie", could change their skin into humans of amazing beauty. Tho it's a legend, and a little bit cruel, some say that a selkie forgets the sea when they change into human, but always cry inside for their true home. Longing for this, they will always look for a way (unconscious) to return, and if one should touch the sea, they will transform back and rush into the sea, leaving everything behind.

Ok guys, I gotta write a POV. Never done this before on yt, but here goes.
The moon was high, obscured by nothing. Its light hit the rippling water, like pearls sprinkled on the surface of the sea. The reflected lights hit your white garments, decorating them with the movement of the waves. You gazed down from the edge of your boat, following your reflection as the sea swelled. The swells felt like a rhythm... a sad one. Before you knew what was happening, you felt something cloud your vision. They were tears. They rolled down your cheeks slowly, eventually traveling down to your chin, and from there, they fell into the tides. The emotions you felt prevented you from being able to even wipe your tears.
You looked up at the moon, wondering how something so cold and distant could be so beautiful. But then you heard a voice to match that sad rythm from before.
You dropped your gaze to your reflection again. Only, this time, you didn't see your own face. You saw the face of possibly the most beautiful woman-- no, creature-- you had ever seen. Her skin was a pale, pale blue, like the light of the stars was trapped within her. Her hair flowed around her like kelp. But her eyes. Her eyes were as deep a blue as the sea around you, almost pulling you in, as a powerful whirlpool would. She whispered something, but you couldn't hear her, for the lapping of the water against the hull of your boat was too fierce. She beckoned for you to come closer, and you did, your upper half over the edge. She held her hand up to you. Her fingers, long and elegant, were adorned with rings of silver.
"Come," she said. Her voice felt to your ears as rain would feel to a desert. Forgetting the warnings you had heard about these creatures-- sirens, they were called-- you placed your hand in hers.
As you did this, you felt a chill you had never experienced before. You became unable to move. Soon, you heard a splash, and realized you had been pulled into the sea. The cold enveloped you, and your vision began to fade. You felt the siren's hands cup your face. She drew closer to you, until finally, her lips met yours. You felt a warmth spread from her mouth to yours, almost like the breath of life...
Or was it the breath of death?
    ~
How was that? First POV ever, so... tell me how I did?

    POV TIME MY GUYS:
I stood by the sand, I felt the water touching my tail, I felt the air against my skin and I saw everything around me being just as pacific as they could be.
I saw everything, but nothing ever saw me. I was fine with it, I just observed, and I knew more about the nothing than most of the people could know about the whole.
But, then, there were you. A human, such an ignorant creature, a little and superfluous being with a short life, it saw me. You saw me.
Not my hair, not my skin, not my tail, not my eyes; but my soul. You saw my sunrise, you saw my sunset. I will always remember your comprehensible eyes, you beautiful soul. All you purity as you touched my face, your hands softer than the air.
But you are gone. Humans live short lives, short periods. They can't do much about it. Even though your life would be like a breeze, you gave it to me; you gave me a purpose. You made me find a reason to be. Your life changed mine.
You are gone. And I will sing each night to the sea a song of all my endless melancholy, but it is not sad. It is my gift to you, like you were a gift to me.
The air, the waves, the sand and the fishes will hear me and know your name. For the endless eternity that I must pass alone, I shall have you by my side.

I'll love you for all eternity... Please... Please... I will love you forever. Please, let me have a soul... Loving you. Forever and ever. I am merely in love. I am merely wanting salvation. Please give love to me, a monster... I'm a lump. A lump with no arms or legs. I've gotten used to bowing and scraping to you, so I cut off my own limbs. I laughed and sang in the pool of blood. A pov
Rumors had started spreading among the fishermen, tales of echoes among the waves that could enchant any man or woman, tales of mistery and marvelous fear.
The girl had been warned to stay clear from the coast while hunters and sailors would try to drive away those legends. She had heard the song, from her room, one night. It was the most beautiful song she had heard in her whole life, perhaps even more comforting than her mother's lullabies, driving her young self into sweet dreams of stars and calm oceans.
Maybe that was when she had been enchanted.
It was a calm, windless night. The stars shone in unison and the moon gazed upon the sea. The girl gracefully leapt from one rock to the other, moving closer and closer to the open sea, on the other side of the bay, where the waves lapped gently the world above.
Soon her dance became accompanied by a song, not the same but just as breath taking as the one she first heard.
A face appeared from the water. Their expression was kind and their eyes sad, the greyish colour of the skin made the creature look as if they were as cold as the waters from the oceans far north. Their voice was silvery and just as otherworldly as their song, praising the girl's soft features and inviting her to join them in the water.
The girl heard screaming in the distance, perhaps some hunters that had spotted the two by the shore. Fear filled her heart as the being grasped her arm, now anxiously hurrying her to follow into the abyss, yet she felt that fear turn into desire to follow the being, her own very instincts making her body move and with the siren's guide she first submerged her foot, flinching at the cold, then she entered to her waist. The soothing voice encouraged her to continue as a sharp object flew past her, a harpoon? An arrow? She did not think of it as her mind was completely focused on her companion. Now holding on the stone with the majority of her body was being held in the sea's embrace the creature stopped singing, hesitating for a moment. As the glimmer of doubt faded away as one of the fishermen's weapons skimmed past the two. As if she had woken up from a dream the girl gasped for air, panicking. Fer face met with cold hands that guided her gaze and soul back to the being. It invited her to steady her breath almost like telling her to go back to sleep and keep dreaming on.
In unison the two creatures breathed
And in unison their heads submerged under the veil, her hands holding onto the being's ones.
If a moment before they were the only thing keeping her connected to reality, to earth, now they let themselves be guided by the gentle creature
She did not feel the salty taste brush on her tongue as the watered filtered through her teeth, making it's way down her throat, as her whole body was only able to feel the other one's movements: gentle yet firm, strong yet calculated. If that creature could roam the earth they would surely be a gymnast, the thought floated in her mind.
Not even the salt water seemed to burn in her eyes as they were too lost into the creature's ones: deep, cold, kind yet terrifying. She wanted to stay in them forever seeking for traces of malice or love, not sure which belonged to them.
And surely she did not hear the ringing growing in her ears, as they were too focused in the turmoiled lament in a language she did not understand. It felt like a storm and peace at the same time.
She could feel the water moving around her and the rippling muscles of her guide's fin. t felt distant yet close, as if she was one with the sea and the seaborne being. Something in her chest whispered her to swim away, to flee from water, as if the moon was calling for her as a mother calls for a lost child. But she didn't listen, in her fogged mind there was only the kind face staring into her soul and guiding it with their voice, and time seemed to stop as cold lips rested on her forehead.
    "I'm sorry."
    They seemed to hum.
Then, as if the entire ocean had crashed on her, she felt a stabbing pain in the chest and an even worse pain wreck her whole body. With a jolt her spine arched and a million bubbles left her mouth, fleeing from her, she tried to chase after them but no muscle listened to her dreadful beg.
She begged her body to move.
She begged the moon to rescue her.
    But neither answered.
No comfort came from the embrace that was cradling her body, inviting it to go limp.
She felt pain in her body, cursing it for not listening to her own voice.
She felt pain in her soul, feeling the pain of betrayal and regret, for letting her own self be deceived with such ease.
Then pain gave away to nothingness, there was no comfort from the embrace holding her tight like a lover that did not want to let go of the light. There was no comfort in the gaze, barely recognizable in the darkness of the deep waters.
There was, instead, a feeling close to numbness in the voice that tried to mesmerize her mind into stopping the rush of thoughts.
At last she felt her muscles timidly relax.
She she could not feel her limbs anymore and her mind slowed down, the song felt more and more distant going with the same slowing rythm of her tired heart.
She understood that there was no reason to fight anymore.
She understood that she belonged to the sea now.
And she understood that it was alright to let a comforting darkness engulf her sleepy mind
She was not sure who lullabied her to sleep, her mother's distant melodies or the siren's cold lament
    Regardless she understood
    "I'm sorry."
    She smiled.
Far over their bodies men were screaming, searching in between the waves with their lanterns and torches for the person that seconds before had lowered themself into the sea, cursing at the demons of the sea for stealing another person. Terrified that the stranger they were searching for could be one of their loved ones.
Even with the light they cast over the sea the waters were dark as if Poseidon himself wanted to shield the courtship that had just taken place far below, in his world, letting two beings share their sorrows without being disturbed.
The only thing slipping from one world to another were voices.
Frantic and terrified screams of men searching for a lost soul,
and a lament full of sorrow and regret of a siren that had just done what they needed to keep their life force.
    Time passed.
The moon dived into the sea, only witness of one of many fateful nights.
And the sun started to make it's way up the firmament, waking up many from their dreams.
The men gave up and returned to the village.
A mother wailed in unison with the song that came from the sea.
On the beach a girl peacefully slept, with waves that covered her body like a cotton blanket.
The girl's face looked at peace, as her soul was deep engulfed in a slumber from which she would never wake up.

I always loved him from afar, marvelling at how well he fits in his own environment, unlike me. My image of him is stolen looks, carefully treasuring details of his face, with fleeting glances, imprinting them in my mind's eye to keep me company at night. My heart ached in ways I never thought possible, it being an ocean so deep for him to get lost in. Enough tears to drown this world, enough sorrow to shake the earth with the storms in my soul.
I longed for him so, yet I could never tell him I loved him. We belonged to different worlds and I wasn't welcomed in his nor he was able to survive mine. I felt voiceless and unseen, not legitimate to be with him 'cause the ones of my kind are considered wrong, against nature, sinful - soulless creatures. I could have hated him, and the world, yet I couldn't. His smile was too beautiful, his eyes as deep as my oceans.
I could never harm him, for he was my heart. I've let the sound of the waves guide me home and I became one with the sea. Hoping that one day he'd cool his skin and rest his flesh in me, feeling a fraction of my love in my watery embrace.

I had a small plot for this when I heard it. Um... it is split cause it was too long, so sorry if you couldn't find the next one.
There once was a siren who always comes to a village near the shore to sing and to lure prey in to devour them. One day when they were singing to lure another prey, they notice that a little boy had heard their song but wasn't hypnotized so they became a bit curious. They slowly swam to where the little boy was and sang again to confirm that it wasn't because of the distance that the boy couldn't hear the song. The boy looked at the siren with the most clear blue eyes the siren has ever seen and the siren knew then that the boy was probably special if he was not hypnotized by the siren song. The curiosity of the siren was piqued by this founding.
"Why could you not hear my song?" The siren asked, the boy didn't answer. "Boy what are you..?" Still no answer. The siren was about to leave when they felt something pull at their arm, "I'm deaf...”. A clear but soft voice came behind them and the boy was staring at the siren with curious eyes, wondering what the siren was. "Deaf...? What is that?" the siren thought and was about to ask him when they remember that the boy probably couldn't hear him so they wrote on the sand " Does deaf mean you couldn't hear?" to which the boy nodded. The siren was shocked but a bit curious on what humans were like so they stayed with the boy for the day. "Well, I'm a mermaid so I am harmless to your village" the siren smiles as they lied through their teeth to the boy, they thought that they could lower the guard of the boy and kill him one day, but it never happened. The siren then came back the next day to find the boy staying where they last met and the boy was sharing new things to the siren, so they thought, "Maybe I'll come back some other day to kill him...."
Soon the days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months, the siren didn't kill the boy even though the thought crossed their mind multiple times. During the time that they were spending together, the siren slowly fell in love with the boy and wanted to bless the boy with the song to let him to be able to hear. But, during the encounters of the siren and the boy, the boy's parents noticed that he would go out in the afternoon and return in the evening so they followed him there. What they saw shocked them, their son was talking to a siren by the shore and close to the ocean. They went to back to the village to tell everyone the news and how to get rid of the siren, they thought it was a treat to the village.
The next day, the siren was writing a song down for the boy and softly humming a small tune but not too loud to hypnotize any surrounding people. The siren was ecstatic for the boy to get his hearing so they could hear the song that they wrote for him the wish came true but, this is a story that doesn't have a happy ending. While the siren was writing the song, the villagers came out with weapons and started to hit and slash at the siren, the siren that was besieged by the attack was about to use their voice to kill the people when they remember that the boy might be nearby and if he sees that all the villagers fall down dead with them in the middle, he will hate them so they decided to keep their mouth shut, keep the song sheet safe and away from their blood and endure the attack. "Why isn't it attacking back..?" "Hell if I know but this thing is a devil in disguise! We have to kill it to keep the village safe!" Some villagers were having doubts and were forced out of the crowd to stand and watch as the others continue to attack the siren.
    To be continued under this.

    • @jolynnooi2901
      @jolynnooi2901 3 ปีที่แล้ว +175

A few minutes after the siege at the siren, the boy came to the shore holding a few flower crowns that he wanted to give to the "mermaid" he befriended but what he came up to was a bloody scene. The boy, ran towards the villagers and started to scream, shouting out incoherent words while struggling to get to something, or someone. The villagers, who always known the boy as a quiet but kind boy who was polite, start to scream at them and clawing his way through them told them something was wrong so they let him through only to see him run towards the siren, kneel and start trying to stop the bleeding on them. The villagers who saw the scene were awestruck and some lowered their weapon, some thinking on what they just did. The siren looked up and saw the crying face of the boy, with a pained smile reached out their hand to cup his face while shacking their head. When the boy saw the motion, he started to weep even more. The siren slowly sang out a mesmerizing song, the villagers that heard the song was about to pull the boy away when they noticed that no one was hypnotized by the song. The siren sang it with a sad tone but the villagers could hear that the song was about love, the siren wrote a song dedicated to the boy as a love song.
When the song ended, the siren turned to the villagers and said “I know why everyone wants to kill me, but it's fine... I just wanted to see him one more time before I go. And, I know.... A siren falling in love with a human was not common and is a sin in the siren world but... I-I...." the siren starts to cry, when they were impaled in the tail, stabbed through the stomach, they didn't cry, they held it in but they are crying cause they know what would happen if the other sirens found out about what they did. "I just want to sing to him once and to let him be able to hear my song once...but I guess it won't happen...." The villagers, after knowing the full story were shocked, some were thrown into tears, and others felt the guilt of killing the siren that just wanted to love the boy but it was all too late. The siren slowly picked up the sheet they wrote their song on, and passed it to the boy, smiling a smile of regret, pity and pain while saying the most hard-felt blow the villagers will feel after the guilt they got. “I have gave the town a blessing... I didn't want him to die so I made a barrier that...the other sirens can't get to this village if the song I gave is sang by the town once a day....." The siren looked up at the boy, slowly sitting up even though there was a wound in their stomach, the siren kissed the boy on the forehead and on the lips, “I really wished you could hear my voice and hear me sing it to you but... It's too late..." The boy couldn't hear but he knew that the siren was about to die in his arms and he shake his head, not wanting to lose a friend, not wanting to let go of the person who is willing to talk to him when the other children did not. "...I....hope when I get reincarnated in my next life... I can find you... I hope in our next life, I can finally marry you can live a peaceful life together.... I really had fun during the times we spent together...” The villagers were in tears after hearing what the siren had said, the guilt felt heavier than ever before. The siren slowly closed their eyes and turned limb right in the arms of the boy, causing the boy to cry even louder and shout out the words “NO!! DON'T LEAVE!! Please! …. Please....." The sobbing of the boy was infectious and everyone started to cry, the ones who did the most wounds lowered their heads in guilt and embarrassment.
The body of the siren glowed a soft blue glow, blue like the boys eyes and started to crack, crumbling into nothing as the boy tried to hug the siren one last time.... The boy started holding onto the sheet the siren gave to him as if it was the last thing to keep him sane while avoiding to ruin the sheet with his tears. A sudden pain in his ears made his scream another time, this time his parents finally got the courage that overcame the guilt to go towards their son, checking if he is alright by gently shaking him and calling out his name. "I.....I can hear....?" The boy replied, shock and confusion was in his voice as he looked up to his parents with his eyes red from all the tears. The parents were dumbfounded, the feeling turned to happiness but it got overrun by guilt again as the scene replayed in their heads. The boy looked at the song the siren wrote, and saw there were something written behind it. What he read later was what told him the entire story of the encounter to what the siren planned to do before the idea was ruined.
"Hi, uh....I don't know if this is finding you in a good time or not but....If you're reading this then I guess I am dead..? Yeah, maybe so. So, this is a confession of what I wanted to tell you. Well, I'm not a mermaid as I've told you, I'm a siren...Well, ex-siren.... We, sirens were never supposed to fall in love with a human but, here we are... I wanted to kill you in the beginning but, I was curious about the human world so I abstained from doing that but.... I was a fool to do so. If I had killed you I wouldn't have fallen for you but the past is the past... My clan knows what I did and is planning to jail me up and probably execute me publicly for breaking a taboo but hey...love is love, I genuinely love you, if I could turn into a human I would want to.. Just to leave the clan behind and start a new life with you... grow old with you, and probably kill myself after you've died but hey...I don't know if you know but... I've always wanted to explore the world like you humans do, just walk around with your.... foots? Feets? I don't know but I really wanted to see the places you've told me about but..... If you are reading this it really means I'm dead, as only you can read this.... I gave some of my powers to you when I healed your ears and gave you the ability to hear....this means you won't be hypnotized by siren songs too by my powers. I really wished to have more time but at the time you get your ability to hear, I won't be seeing you anymore, so keep this as a memento alright..? I know I'll miss you when I'm jailed, I hope you will miss me too. Hope to be fated with you in my next life, I hope I get to marry you then"
Years has passed, and the siren was praised into being the village’s protector for the other siren of the sea. The village children now sing the song that the siren left behind, signifying their love for a human to risk their own life for them. Only a certain few parents know the truth of what happened all those years ago by the story from their own grandparents. There were rumors of the human actually following the siren to reincarnate while some said the human forgot about the siren and married someone else. An old man who heard the rumors gave a small chuckle and continue on his way to a place he had visited daily, he sat there and talked as if there was someone there listening to him. The old man took a sheet out of his coat and smiled bitterly, “I’ve missed you..... It's been 60 years, when are you coming back..? You said you'd come back...." The old man start to sob, while staring into a distance, seemingly waiting for someone to come back. The next morning, someone found the old man dead by the shore, his hand clutching the sheet as a last ditch effort to keep it from flying away. The villagers who were old all knew who died and gave a bitter smile at each other “At least he'll be with them in the next life, they've been waiting for a long time..." The old man was the boy the siren had fell in love with and died to protect, he had never married, nor had any children. It seems like he missed his old friend and had decided it wouldn't be polite to keep them waiting any longer.... Maybe, he met up with the siren once again in their next life, only time will tell.
      THE END.

His touch had grown jagged, the fingerprints I had studied a thousand times and that made him so human were splitting down their centres. I realised that this man was not meant for the sea, no more than I was not meant for the land. Water ate away at his flesh as air burnt my gills. On our half-submerged spot in the depths of the ocean, on a small rock that seemed to have risen from middle-earth just for us, we realised that it had been killing us all along. He combed through my hair that sliced his skin, produced water droplets from his eyes as if to ease my last earthly breaths. I pulled him onto my back and swam with the most sure direction I've ever known. Shore. A place where we might exist in a different world. Sand clouded the sea under my fin and when it settled, our worlds became split at the point where foam settles on land and where humans and mermaids know not of one another.

I listen to this so much that I had a dream about a siren with silver hair who mournfully sang these songs and was cursed to lure men to their deaths, and then I, the hero, broke the curse and she found peace and as she swam out to the ocean, her body evaporated into all these beautiful silver scales. Best dream I ever had ✨

I felt the cold hard rocks beneath me. There I sat in the darkness of the night, with the land far behind and the sea in front of me. How could I have been so foolish and naive, believing that the land was for me. I was betrayed, I was hurt. All I wished was to be home again, to lay back and let the ocean embrace me. I can never go back, be home again. I lost my home in search for something else, a place with hope - A lie. My love for humans would never be again. My childhood, my home, the sea would kill me - For I belonged to the land, to earth and to the humans now. The humans who lived in anger and despair. Their fuel was hatred and revenge. They feed you lies, give you hope and to believe in peace. Once your full of life they turn, they destroy and take all your hope away. The love you once felt is replaced with coldness and with pain, there is no remorse and all you feel is betrayal.
But here I am, back at sea and I won’t leave again. Bring me home, bring me to peace was the last I said before I laid back. First the coldness took my breath away but then it embraced me, caressed my body as I sank. As my limbs gave away my last breath was drawn, and it filled me. The sea swallowed me whole as the cold became a part of me. As I hit the bottom with the sand at my skin, I felt once again at ease. My thoughts went blank and the darkness welcomed me.
I opened my eyes and for a quick second there was panic, before I realised, I was back. Not the same, but I was alive again. Laying at the bottom of the ocean, I tried to raise myself. There it was my tail. It was duller, with a kind of sharpness. Being alive wasn’t like before, there was a darkness, a feeling of power that I never felt before. That’s when I knew the legends and rumours had been true. The once about the mermaids whose souls where lost at sea, the once who had felt real darkness and now was the ruler of the sea. The darkness was now inside of me, the power and need for revenge. Never would I trust again, I wouldn’t be foolish, and it was time to seek revenge. I will be the sailors greatest fear for I was now a mermaid whose soul is lost at sea.

Once upon a time there was a mermaid named serenity who would sing her beautiful lullabies at night she was a beautiful figure and a beautiful woman. One day a man named tavarious would be lost in the woods but soon he begin to hear a beautiful lullaby he would follow the voice as if the voice would guide him but he saw nobody he then sat on the floor with beautiful green grass he would begin to cry and say “ I lost it all” then the woman named serenity would answer him and responded “ why are you sad?” He then would say “who’s there?” She then would say “why are you so displeased?” He didn’t know who or what was talking to him but he stayed calmed and tears would come out of him “I have lost everything” Serenity would respond “aren’t you a human? Aren’t humans supposed to be happy? I can tell your a man of money so why are you so upset you walk the earth with two feet and you get to meet people all around you beautiful creatures like you shouldn’t be sad.” He responded “ your right… I shouldn’t be sad but I am. I have money I have a family who looks up to me and yet I am sad I was supposed to get married today with a beautiful woman but something in my heart didn’t feel love for the person that was to be bride. Serenity the mermaid begin to understand this man and felt pity for him she would then reveal her true identity to him. “I am something that isn’t something like you I feel pity for you the truth was I was supposed to kill you and devour you it’s only in my nature to do so but somehow I feel pity for you , out of all the humans I have ever eaten you seem to be the only human who has ever cried and has admitted everything he has done. That is why I will let you go but never return. tavarious then said “show yourself you who speaks to me I would like to see you” serenity then would look from a long distance and she would look with surprised she then said “ no human has ever wanted to look at a mermaid don’t you know that is mermaid are terrible we are truly ugly in the heart and outside” tavarious then said “I want to see you nobody has ever listened to me they all think they understand me but they don’t you who claims to be a mermaid understands me more then any human could ever understand me. Serenity then would show herself and tavarious would look at her with sadness he then would run towards her in pain and in agony and said “ You are not ugly you are beautiful and for the first time in my life I want to die by your hands serenity the mermaid I wish to die by your hands. Serenity’s eyes would be in agony and responded “ do you truly wish for me to end your life tavarious? You still have the opportunity to live life and begin a family why would you ever want to die” tavarious answered “ I don’t know…I always was afraid of death but I see no point in living in a world that doesn’t make happy I am more afraid of the world and the people then I am of you please kill me let me die in peace hugging you is enough for me.” Serenity then would cry and would take him the pull him into the deep cold water he would drown while she would hug him serenity would never understand humans but for the first she felt butterflies in her stomach she wondered would it meant…

Mini story time as I listen to this :) :
You swim towards where you see your lover everyday, singing softly as you glide swiftly through the cold, salty water. As you approach the beach you hear laughing and small giggles. There are two voices for some reason, and a puzzled look crosses your face. You slow down in and your tail floats towards the front of you. You poke your head out the water as you finally recognize one of the voices to be your lover's. The other is a girl, and as your eyes finally adjust to the open air you see it. Your lover and another girl, laughing and giggling, caressing each other the way you and your lover did. Water fills up your vision, even though your face wasn't in the water. You let in a harsh gasp as you flip backwards into the water, startling your lover and the girl. You swim off rapidly, into the deeps, to mourn. Everything gets darker and your tail begins to give off a faint glow as you go deeper and deeper, sobbing and letting the sea collect your tears. Soon enough you are encompassed in pitch black darkness, nothing but the faint glow of your tail lighting the surrounding area. You curl up as you release loud sobs and cries that could be heard all the way to the surface. Storms roll around up there, making your cries sound like the clap of thunder. The sea is mourning with you. It feels your pain and wraps you in a loving darkness and wipes your tears with a cold and salty hand. Everything is cold. And now your heart is, too, as you lay there in the deep dark depths of the sea, letting all those who hear your cries be cursed with the mourns of a heartbroken mermaid.

I was mistaken. My little heart, like a boat lost as sea, would never find its safe harbor in his arms. His sweet embrace belonged to the human woman who slept beside him. To the princess he had made his bride. He had chosen someone else, and I had no right to protest his choice.
No matter how much I loved him, no matter how many sacrifices I made, it would not change the fact that they loved each other.
I could not plunge the dagger between his ribs, not when it would spell his death and end their love. To live my last hour looking at his sleeping face, happy and content beside his lover's shoulder, is enough. My heart may be broken, but my soul will rejoice in knowing that theirs are whole.
    END
