    Man, I am sick of the "how are we going to pay for it" health care argument. We spend over 18% of our national GDP on health care. In other words, for every dollar that is spent in the US, 20 cents is for health care. In return we are:
    31st in life expectancy (just behind Costa Rico)
    35th in infant mortality
    Have obesity rates of 33%
    Anything has to be cheaper (and better) than the dumpster fire of a health care system we have now. Being poor and sick is to be sentenced to constant pain and early death. We don't even do that to our worst criminals - it borders on the barbaric.
    Done ranting.

    Nixon is actually somewhere between 23-29 points behind, not 30 ... and if you look at earlier polls she was down close to 50 pts so she's already gained slightly more than half the ground she needed to gain. Gillum gained most of his ground in the final two weeks of the primary race in Fla. This is do-able folks. Vote Nixon!!

      Tbh as a first time candidate it is more likely she won't get quite enough votes to win but, even if she doesn't win, she is another example of the sort of politics and values that a significant % of Dem voters want, so the party might finally take notice and reform.

    • @BranDenhauer
      @BranDenhauer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Polling can be wildly inaccurate when it comes to progressive candidates. This is because pollsters only poll "likely voters" and progressives, if they can get their message and name out there, tend to draw out "unlikely voters". Cynthia Nixon has more than accomplished this. Even if she's 15 points behind in the polls the day before the election, she'll _trounce_ Cuomo just like Gillum trounced what's her face in Florida even though _he_ was down in the polls.

The average waiting time for a specialist appointment in the US is only a few days. Here’s a question for you though, as a Canadian citizen. What services do you get access to under your government medical insurance scheme? And what don’t you have access to. I think it works differently from the U.K.

    wouldn't it be nicer to just pay a few hundred more at the beginning of the year and not have to worry about it? why are people fighting this basic fundamental need?

    • @kylequest
      @kylequest 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Jeremy Barlow no state, no matter the size, should be funding healthcare. It ALL should be funded by the Federal government because states are end user's of currency and not the currency creator as the Federal government is. If there was some form of a catastrophe, a natural disaster, and/or an outbreak it would easily overwhelm state funds. Though every penny the Federal Government spends is money created and can never run out of money. That's why for the safety and security of the public, Universal Healthcare MUST be funded by the Federal Government. That's why the Progressive Platform is mostly based on the Federal Government. Thank you very much!

    • @bdg404
      @bdg404 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kylequest So if, as you say, the government can never run out of money, then why does the question "how are we gonna pay for it" come up so much? And should we wait until Republicans and corporate democrats alike no longer have a voice in Congress before pursuing universal healthcare? Because that's the only way to get it done on the federal level. If the states can do it on their they should. No natural disaster will hit 4 noncontiguous at the same time so they can either pay into a fund for this instance or loan each other the funds. There is no reason that states should not pursue this if the federal government is unwilling

    Read this for the first time everyone. I'm a middle class Canadian and pay about 23% total income taxes as all middle class Canadians do. Where is the 70% in taxes Republicans say you have to pay if you get free health care? Total BS.
    How do Canadians get free health care, single payer health care paying only 23% total income tax? We don't waste our money on servicing the debt with interest, overpaying the military, wasting money on needless incarceration, overpaying insurance companies and drug companies etc. In October 2018, we will have many billions more in revenue from the sale of legal marijuana where we will be the first major country to legalize pot nationally.
    If America really wanted to invest in the future and its people, it would spend money more wisely but we know corrupt big money has bribed/lobbied politicians in Washington to ignore the average American and only give tax breaks to the rich.
    The right always talk about "socialism" and how the country is going to become bankrupt with the people having less with a poorer way of life...How ironic it is that with democratic socialism people are far richer, healthier, happier, more educated, more free, more democratic, and less hating of their government than Americans. 40% of people do not live in poverty in democratic socialism. 40% of Americans live in poverty below the $20,000/year income line. Do you think that's a successful country? American Capitalism is failing and you only have to look at income inequality and the election of Trump to clearly see it.
    Bernie started this new wave, the New Deal which is coming to Americans soon. Things are moving in the right direction and the majority of Americans now support most of Bernie's policies. The mainstream media sees a blue wave coming in the upcoming November 2018 election but it has no idea what's coming in 2020 as it either doesn't have its ear to the ground or more accurately, it is ignoring what its corporate owners don't want it to hear and report: Bernie is going to win the nomination easily and then roll over Trump in a landslide..The reason is easy to see now. Bernie is the most popular politician in America and his weakest demographic from 2016, black voters is now his strongest with a support rate of 80%. Wow. A Bernie landslide is coming.

    The people who tell em she's unqualified because she's 'only an actress' can't tell me why Cuomo was qualified since he was 'only a Governor's son'. My favorite moment was when he was trying to say she had asked for a favor, and she explained that it was a favor, not for herself, but for those who attend the Shakespeare in the Park programs. After all, how can you enjoy The Bard's work if you can''t hear it?

    She has no experience. He’s actually trying to govern and do his job while she is coming up with this stuff. She talks about helping the homeless, putting away criminals, and governing effectively. Well, excuse me, but he actually worked on these issues as the Attorney General of New York, the Secretary of HUD, and the Governor. She was off playing Miranda Hobbes on Sex and the City while he was actually dealing with all these issues. How is she in any way qualified to be Governor? She is another entertainer, like Trump, who is putting on a big show but has no real experience and does not know what she is doing or what she is actually talking about.

    The sign language interpreter was necessary. As a hearing person that also needs closer captions, television captions are inaccurate when important information is being spoken at least 80% of the time. Entire paragraphs get lost and if I couldn't hear, I wouldn't know what had be said. I believe the software used is not infallible.

    I no longer live in the State of New York. During my personal tenure in New York, I had to deal with many New York State agencies; Sales Tax, Payroll Tax, Business registration, etc.(In multiple calls to the various agencies, the person answering the calls knew little or practically nothing about the subject matter) If you have never dealt with bureaucrats, you are in for a treat. Unless the SYSTEM is revamped, Cynthia Nixon's dream of single payer will not work. Once New York State (Albany) gets hold of those funds they are going to be squandered and practically nothing will get done. Don't underestimate the power of those bureaucrats that run New York State Government.

    While I have no love for political dynasties like Bush's or Cuomo's. Nixon's was an easy position of attacking. She dodged many questions that were directed at her. She also acted Trump like with exaggerated facial expressions while he was speaking and constantly interrupting made it seem as if she has a low level of self control. If any of you remember Trump debates he did the same thing to Hilary. Again while I have zero love of political dynasties New York is the only state where tuition is free for the middle class as of 2017. I like Nixon and wish her luck in taking over new York state. Unfortunately TYT isn't doing her a favor by pretending she was perfect. I'd love to see her in office but lying to her and her supporters on how well she's doing is counter productive (self deception is dangerous). Help her by being honest on strengths she should keep and weaknesses where she could improve. Ok let the attacks on me begin.
