This concept was so interesting. Such a throwback kind of save. It looks like such a funny save. Transfer-ban for 100 years, sim the first 30 and then rebuild. Would be fun. Great video anyway!
I believe a major factor is the average age of the squads in the start of the experiment.. Take Liverpool as an example - they’ll have a lot aging players a few years in that can only be replaced with inferior youth players, which will make them drop significantly in level.. Then no new high level manager coming in - and it’s just a downwards spiral from there..
The lack of youth system dominance is disappointing as it shows how poorly ai managers use them. Not surprising though. Look how often wonderkids left in ai teams just never play.
Not really, most of their players aren't from their academy, but poached from other Basque clubs. Real Sociedad, the other basque club, has way more self-produced players that have played this season
Great experiment. I've tought about a different one: what if all clubs had a transfer policy like Athletic Bilbao, just being able to sign players of their country? If, of course, that is even possible to test in FM 2022.
Bit late on the reply, but I think it could be possible if you add a maximum of 0 foreign players in each league's rules. Would be a bit of work having to edit all the nation rules, but that's the best way I can think of how to set this up (since Bilbao's transfer policy is hard-coded if I remember correctly)
Amazing experiment. I would go one step further and apply a transfer ban to all the teams in the world or a trade ban on signings outside of the country. It would be great to see which clubs/leagues/countries get better relying only on national talent
Wow! This was really cool and surprising to see. Did you show your dad the results of this experiment? I know he’d be heartbroken seeing the Spurs be runners up behind my Blues for such a long time!
Not watched this yet but saved it to watch on my lunch break, but from experience with my current save, Utd should do quite well, with guys like Hannibal, mcneill etc smashing it in my team after a few years! Great concept luke 👌🏻
I wonder how it would be to play with a team in this time. Praying every intake to be good and just waiting for atleast 3 x 5 star players coming through
Interesting video. You can really see which teams had strong youth programs. Ajax, Dortmund, Chelsea, Juventus, PSG mostly. I was expecting to see Man Utd and Arsenal win more though, as they too got pretty strong youth recruitment, though obviously it failed them.
In the current database, Chelsea has the best young players in almost every position. In my save, I never even bothered signing anyone significant. Just pulled them out of the u18 and u21 squad and voila. Plug and play.
@@OmegaLukeGaming yeah. With the likes of soonsup bell, Anjorin, Maatsen, Gallagher, Chalobah, Castillo, ampadu, mount, odoi, the first 20 years were already in the bag. And with those kind of wins, the youth system must have churned out equally prolific stars for the remainder years. Great experiment!
It would be cool to see individual player records. I'm sure you can't see everything, but records like most goals in a season or team records like goals conceded in a season. Did anyone best Chelsea's least goals conceded over a season record?
Most of those teams are teams with very good youth set ups AND that have youth focused board requirements I reckon. So maybe because they focus on it, the AI utilises the youth better? So like Dortmund, Barca, Bilbao, Southampton, as examples that definitely have youth development board requirements, whereas clubs like Real, Bayern, man Utd etc. have good academy set ups but don't necessarily focus on youth, so maybe because of this those clubs maintain their youth academies better and play their youth player more and the other clubs can't handle the lack of ability to sign players and don't adjust their philosophies.
This makes sense. It will be interesting to see how each club adapted to this philosophy especially at the early years. I suggest doing an experiment focused on 1 club like Real Madrid or Inter which are certainly suffered in this experiment, and see how the quality of their promoted youth players as well as how they utilize them in every 10 years compared to other successful teams.
Clubs with major debts in small countries like Portugal, they may not have the money to renew contracts. Maybe that's why they do not dominate the charts.
is this stuff done through the editor? I'd love this as a challenge and see how teams develop, did you look for any big name players and see where they went in free moves Luke?
This is interesting but it also causes non-league/semi-pro teams to be forever irrelevant since they don't have youth intakes, meaning at some level every (pro) team with a youth intake will hit a certain point and never fall below that. In Scotland this is between the Championship and League 1, or in England between Division 2 and the Vanarama. In some leagues like in Wales or Northern Ireland, there may only be 1 or 2 pro teams at all, meaning they will forever win their leagues with literally no competition.
I really enjoyed the video. Are the players intelligent enough to know there’s a transfer ban everywhere? Just wondering if anyone refused to sign a contract because they wanted to move to a bigger club, but obviously couldn’t. Would be great to see another video where you remove the transfer ban and see what happens.
I only ask because I’m interested in doing a save like this, I’d never thought of it until I saw your video. I’d hate it if my new wonder kid wouldn’t sign a contract because I was in League 1 and he thought he would sign for a bigger club, only to see him never kick a ball again. The thought of it makes me sad haha
I mean they're succesfull because they tend to buy the best players from other german clubs often. Once that isn't possible anymore it gets kinda hard. Didn't expect 3th league though.
You could have showed us the clinch. Did Celtics youth system make them dominate? Aberdeen, Motherwell and Dundee United have really good youth systems as well, did that help them win titles?
From the Portugal League I surprised you mentioned not Sporting Clube de Portugal, they have the best youth Acedemy from the big three! And I hoped you would Show this Leauge, too.
They might not be able to transfer players, but if their contract expires or if the player doesnt want to sign a new contract can they sign for another team instead? problably there were a lot of free transfers. Also i was hoping to see the portuguese clubs at the top level because they have such a great youth academy im kinda curious about their league also. Great vid mate, keep up

I wonder if it's down to the games handling of finance. If they don't have inflation and such market powers, then I imagine over time other clubs catch up financially and then the playing field levels, so you see far more teams fluctuate up and down. Not sure how to explain the dominance of Chelsea and Barcelona maintaining their status for the most part. Perhaps down to the mechanics around club owners? This would be interesting to dive into though. Like did Getafe emerge due to a single Haaland like player that let them dominate a few seasons and grow on the back of that etc? As a West Ham fan it'd be interesting to see if they became a yoyo club like in my youth, or stuck in the EPL for 50 years.
Wonder if the results of this experiment would more or less be similar if its repeated a couple more times. Would the AI change their behaviour significantly? How did you do the transfer ban? Did you have to edit every single club one by one using the pre-game editor or is there a setting to effect such a ban for EU clubs? I'd love to run the same experiment for curiosity's sake cos I'm curious about the players, squad, records details.
If this happened in real life and I never saw my childhood club PSG win the Champions League in 65+ years of supporting them, I think I'd stop watching football
