I have to disagree with you on getting the Surface Pro 7 over the Dell Latitude. I own a Surface Pro 4 and I love it! Or should I say I loved it. The battery was going bad and I decided to change it and upgrade the SSD (since I had to open it anyway). I managed to get the screen off without breaking it, but damaged the motherboard getting the battery out. Now it won't turn on, even after I had the board repaired. Since it's a Surface Pro and Microsoft doesn't publish any documentation on it, none of the shops in my area will touch it (they wouldn't touch it if it was working). They recommend I buy another used one. However, I still won't be able to upgrade the SSD and if the battery goes bad in a year or so, I'm back in the same boat. I decided to replace the Surface Pro 4 with a Dell Latitude 5290 or a HP Elite X2 because I can open either one of them to replace the battery and upgrade the SSD. I will miss my Surface Pro. However, I hate having devices that you practically have to throw away if something goes wrong with it after the warranty expires. Microsoft screwed up by not making the Surface Pros field serviceable.

Hi, Kevin, how long did you have the surface pro 4? I worry about the battery durability on the Surface Pro 7, too. I would have it in use 60 hours a week.

@@priyagehm3487 Priya, I had my first Surface Pro 4 for over 2 years. I bought it used, and the battery health was at 92% when I bought it. It dropped to right above 80% before I tried to replace the battery. For full disclosure, I put more stress on the battery than normal by running another that wasn't fully optimized for Surface Pros. I bought another used Surface Pro 4 last month because I had so many Surface accessories. If you get a brand new Surface Pro 7, it should last 3-4 years of heavy use before the battery needs to be replace.

why would you chose a latitude 5290 over a 7200?

Because these are enterprise devices, there are great eBay deals when companies replace devices. Battery replacements are easy and make this the choice for me over any surface. Surface is better but I’m not gonna buy something I can’t repair.

can you please reply, how do you think surface pen is 100 times better , is it the performance, latency etc or the battery . also you are comparing 8th gen to 10th gen .so doest that effect pen performance,

I would choose the dell any day over the surface. I don't understand why people want very light devices. I mean, it isn't heavy to carry around! People carry laptops which are even heavier. And, when it comes down to functionality, the difference isn't even noticeable. They both get the work done. And people who own these devices don't even use the pens much.

Good choice, you can upgrade it down the line if necessary.

thanks for the info, But I do have one thing to complain, you should show how the pen writes or draws(at least draw some simple lines on the screen)... because the performance of the pen and the Wacom tech inside it, that the crucial part for artists or some use it to take notes or something... anyway, thanks again, hope you do well.

Great review. Thank you. I wonder if you can answer some of these questions?
    >On the surface, if I get the i5 with 8 gigs of ram & 128 gb. & later add an SSD will that give me the speed & function of for instance a 256gb processor?
    >Can the Microsoft keyboard be used on the Dell tablet?
    >the Dell tablet can use a better Wacom pen, am I right?
    >How does color quality compare on the two devices?
    >How do the fans compare? is it better to get the fanless i5 on the surface since the computer can't be opened for cleaning? How can the Surface vents be kept clean?
    >how does actual battery life compare? How long do these batteries last before they need to be replaced? My last Dell battery died completely after about 10 months. If that happened on a surface it would defeat the purpose of having an ultra portable. > What is the best warranty deal on the Dell & on the Surface?
    >Have you used the surface pro 7 with an external display? Any pointers or complaints?
    >How is the experience of reading & generating detailed word & excel docs on the Dell vs the Surface? How to they compare for clarity, contrast, ease & speed of reading font. seeing tiny details in documents & in for instance the ward ribbon or the windows system?
I purchased & returned the surface during the shut down/upgrade weeks because I couldn't get help from Microsoft or best buy with legibility problems on windows screens & on 365. Low contrast fonts & some windows had fonts too small to quickly/easily read. (Doesn't help productivity to have to stop, lean in & squint.) Do you know how to fix this issue?
I used the Dell Latitude 13" i7 from 2017 for 2 years non stop, no eye strain until it died during the shut down The Surface gave me headaches & eye strain after half an hour. Pixelsense is supposed to be better than FHD. Is windows update contributing to the problem? Is it PWM? the i5 supposedly doesn't have PWM until 25% brightness according to netbook check.
    >Is there a way to go into the registry to make the font have better contrast? (Tried clear type, adjusting font size) Some of this problem may be a style problem with Microsoft because I notice their web site has tiny silver looking type too but their web site responds to scaling & many windows sections do not.
I have no trouble reading comfortably on an 11" iPad & almost bought it but I fear that iOS is not ready for business & the keyboards are not useful. So, that leaves me with getting either the Dell, surface or hp spectre. Just hoping I can make the surface very easy to read on.
