    Hello John, I have just started to follow you on TH-cam. Great videos!! An additional tip regarding this video. If you use a vacuum sealer machine you can divide it in separate small bags and you don't have to open the whole bag if you need a small amount of it and you can store it even much longer. The machines are available at supermarkets for around €30,-

      That's an interesting idea. I love you guys always coming up with ideas like this, thanks!

    Brilliant solutions as always! A good tip could be to freeze smaller portions so that when you need some you don't have to take all of it out. I presume it is ok to freeze multiple times? Anyway, just a thought, brilliant to see you back on the channel again John.

    I'd just like to point out that the bag you poured out of is also a zipper bag. And it is a three part "retort" bag. Take a bit out for your working stock and squeeze the air out of the original bag, reseal it, and, if you must, double bag it.

      This is a good point. The original bag may have been better. It doesn't fit in our freezer though :( but point taken that the original bag might have been more oxygen proof. The freezing should help a lot to slow deterioration though, do you think?

    Thanks for the tip. Wrt liquid chemicals, I buy E6 chems in 5lt kits, mix and freeze them in full 1/2lt water bottles. I've found that they last years this way.

      Well well, I never! I would be worried that some of the chemicals might crystallise out of solution spoiling them. Glad it's working for you!

    A worthwhile tip, John and well demonstrated as always in terms of what you have to do. Have you any idea by how much the act of freezing extends powdered chemical's lives and sodium ascorbate in particular. Thanks

      I have no definitive answer to that but frozen glycin lasts much longer as does film and paper.

    Can I freeze phenidone?

      Yes, it will freeze.

      @@PictorialPlanet thank you, so it s going to last longer?

    • @PictorialPlanet
      @PictorialPlanet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @alexcaligari probably. I freeze photographic glycin and it keeps much longer. Freezing slows down reactions. That's why I freeze film too. Most of my phenidone gets dissolved in propylene glycol which also preserves it.

      @@PictorialPlanet thank you! yes, I ve seen your videos about dissolving phenidone in glycol, but I have 400g of phenidone😂 and I m looking for an alternative

      @alexcaligari 400g !!! Wow, freeze it in small bags or film canisters inside freezer bags. Wow, 400g !!

    I'm not sure it's a valid "tip" if it's not tested. The original bag, if ziplock, seems a lot more oxygen-proof as it seems to have a layer of aluminum in it's polymer laminations.

    • @PictorialPlanet
      @PictorialPlanet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ha! I love the way you're thinking. However, I do use this method for keeping photographic glycin which is very expensive and goes off pretty quickly. I'm confident that freezing slows down deterioration but, and I'll come back to it , time will tell!
      About the bag. It has a large plastic window in it. However, your point is well taken, that it could have been a better bag to keep it in. Trouble is my freezer space is limited and I wanted to squish the vitamin C in a tight space.
      Nice to see you again Larry!

    A good friend of mine and a veteran film photographer gave me the tip to store mixed chemicals from e.g. powder developer that often are enough to make 1 gallon in those bags from wine cartons. They can be easily poured and no air can enter. And you can enjoy some Rosé or whatever before that :) He is from Australia and having powdered chemicals shipped to him is much more economic.
