    This guy has the same if not more power than the president. He literally has enough money and power to start world war 3 if he wanted to. He gives majority of his money to charity and has the entire world in mind rather than just the country. He looks at humans that make up earth, not the country that divides them. So much respect for this guy.

      +Monkey D. Luffy You clearly understand nothing about capitalism...Bill Gates doesn't own anything kid, the stuff he "owns" actually owns the persona of Bill Gates as well. In a sense, his "money' is actually much bigger than he is.
      It is being constantly deterred this type of massive enrichment, but like many of people like him from the past, there is nothing left but to philanthropic activities, to improve his image as someone good in history.

    • @saeedsnne
      @saeedsnne 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I completely understand your point on the matter and I do understand capitalism mate. Furthermore, even though your theory makes sense in many ways, its still a theory. I've simply made a comment based on his actions, not going into detail about capitalism, wealth or power simply because me, you or anyone else on TH-cam doesn't really care nor want to read an essay. The way I see it, if a person gave you food and water for all the wrong reasons, it doesn't change the fact that he is giving you food and water. Whether he is known as a kind or unkind human being in history doesn't change the fact the that money is making a difference. That is my point summarised.
      P.S When I was a kid and found out about such wealthy people on earth my first ever thought.. the first thing that ever came to my head was "The government allows that?". Not going into detail but I hope you can fill in the dots.

      +Monkey D. Luffy Actually most of the money from the Gates Charity Foundation goes to large companies - like Mastercard. There were studies made about this in 2012 if I'm not mistaken. Think I first found out about this in Jacobin and then researched a bit more on the net...

    I just had a major revelation. I'm a "Mac person" whatever the fuck that is. Gates is often seen as a nerd with no aesthetic vision, Jobs is seen as a visionary, creating beauty and new functionality. But while Mac is busy upping the bar on cool and making us all re-buy their products, Bill Gates is out there changing the world. When did Steve Jobs ever do that? In the end, Bill Gates gets my vote.

    • @randomtux392
      @randomtux392 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, part of it is because you like what others like or have, the old saying, you don't know how much *you've* got, but how much *others* have. So in USA and parts of Europe people tend to buy Apple stuff. Jobs and Gates, well one was behind design and marketing, the other found code and applications to fit a growing world market. Then they came up with Windows after seeing Xerox, Amiga etc. Rest is history. But sure Bill Gates is by himself an awesome guy that has helped a lot of people and fixed problems. All Apple has done is sell their stuff at high prices and accumulated cash. If I had a choice, which I don't, I wouldn't buy either PC or Mac, since I loved the way the Amiga was and that it was a 3rd choice. But what can I do.

    The people who think that poor countries stay poor are stupid, look at China, 50 years ago it was some land with agriculture and poverty, now look, it's an industrial powerhouse. Same with India, 50 years ago it was a repressed British colony, now it has one of the best telecommunications networks in the world.

    I'm a huge fan of Jimmy and the show. I love the goofiness and lighthearted vibe of each episode. But this change of pace is truly refreshing. It seems our news and media is full of negativity and in this interview Bill Gates shows us that the good in the world will always outweigh the bad, you just gotta look for it. Gates could easily sit on his money, invest it, or spend lavishly and no one would blame him. Instead he chooses to use what he has earned to make the lives of others better and to give hope to the hopeless and forgotten. This man is truly an inspiration and we need more like him. Thanks, Late Night.

      Should probably say that this is viewing the world very simplistic. Just as trade deals have helped poor countries, they have also kept poor countries poor via trade barriers. Same as charity has helped, it has also hurt a lot since charity often artificially keeps stuff alive that is better gone. Like for example helping by giving loads of food to Africa, however when it's so cheap it destroys the food production they have in their own countries, you killed off whatever food supply they had themselves so need even more charity to live.

      I'm sure it was all the utter genius of Gates. No one else would or could have possibly convinced him to donate some of his unbelievably expansive wealth to charity. What a humble guy too - only living on a few billions dollars. I hope he has enough to buy private jets whenever he travels for the rest of his life. I'd hate for him to have to fly on public planes - I wouldn't wanna live in that sort of world.

      Before Gates, billionaires didn't give much away? Ever heard of the Rockerfeller family? Ever read anything into this topic without making that extremely stupid comment? Clearly not.
      His children both received $10 million pocket money around the age of 10. He openly admitted in an interview, when asked about this, that his wealth has warped his perception of reality. 'Very little' means more than 99.999999% of humanity will ever know, when you're as rich as Gates.

    • @ajnode
      @ajnode 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Again, the fact that you continue to stand by your comment that there were no charitable rich men before Gates is just unbelievably hilarious. The higher irony is that if Gates' company hadn't used every possible tax avoiding loophole possible, his company would have no where near as much profit, meaning the TAX that his company would have to give would have been circulating back into the country that you were talking about, raising the standard of living and giving more people more disposable incomes to donate themselves - or give them more time to help others, rather than being forced to work en masse so that we have to rely on the 'charitable' billionaires to look humble and giving while they give away scraps off the top of their disgustingly overt fortunes.

Bill Gates had one brilliant idea at the right time and that's all he needed to become a billionaire. The other billions came because he worked hard, but he still needed incredible much luck! All you need is timing. No one gives a shit about how hard you work. You can be the greatest, I don't know, police man of all time and work your ass of all your life, you will still not be rich in the end! Of course you usually get more money if you're working harder, but that doesn't mean, that you get incredibly much money if you just work hard enough! You don't get anywhere without a corrupt government if you lack natural and social resources to go from there and especially if you are continuously economically exploited by richer countries through so-called "free trade agreements". Or invaded by those richer countries because they want the natural or social resources you do have.
      Besides, the US is one of the most corrupt countries on this planet, and most people would call that crapshoot a "rich country" still.
      Going by the amount of corruption alone is ridiculous, simply because it's a singular reason and life doesn't work that way.

      From what I've read, most countries have been corrupt when they were poor. Corruption tends to fall as countries develop and get richer. Back in the 1700s Europe it wasn't even called corruption because it was pretty much legalized. You could buy offices for specific sums of money. This was public knowledge.
      That is an idea I've played with. Lets stop fooling ourselves and legalize corruption. At least then it will be transparent and known. Lets record how much the rich paid to get out of prison, how much they paid to buy a particular legislation etc. It is like drugs, sometimes it is better to legalize and regulate rather than having an absolute ban. Corruption could be regulated. E.g. only a certain amount of corruption would be legal so that if were really really corrupt THEN you could go to prison.

    We should not ask, why are people poor? Instead ask why are people rich? Poverty is the original state of man. We started out dirty & destitute scavenging for food. We know why people are poor. We should instead ask what have certain groups of people done to increase their wealth. Answer: Human liberty.

      Africans have freedom. Problem is they're trapped in an economic system that abuses them. There are winners and losers in capitalism, and third world countries (Often colonized or had their capital stolen/destroyed) had no chance to begin with.
      Don't act like complex things like economics and politics have anything to do with weird American ideals.
      Also: poverty is a relative thing. The rich of the medieval ages would be considered poor or middle class at best.

    • @jcwebb540
      @jcwebb540 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Wrong. Africans suffer under the most corrupt of governments. Often, aid from the West doesn't find its way to the people simply because of the chain of parasitical behavior. In capitalism, all parties win as they freely choose to trade. The history of colonization is one of oppression by governments. Government control is the antithesis of capitalism.
      Free market ideology is not an American concept. I would offer its greatest proponents have been British & Austrian.

    Telling these people they're heroes because they're giving away half of their wealth - as if living on the billions of dollars they have left will be such a hardship, really makes me sick. It's sort of like we created a system where they can make themselves feel good by giving away amounts of money that 99% of this world could only dream of, while it literally doesn't change their life at all because the amount of money they do have is more than it is even really possible to spend even living your life to it's fullest-fullest-fullest.
    Having said that - you kind of have to revel in the fact that the richest man of all time has been affected in such a way where his core values revolve around helping others. Although the fact that he has accumulated so much wealth in (not always ethical) ways that take that potential wealth away from countless others sort of puts a dampen on his attempts at saving the world. Bill Gates is BY FAR the richest human who has ever lived - let's not forget that.

    The charities like Bill Gate's are secular charities. They are typically more legit than many of the religious charities you find. Because religion's primary motive is to spread their dogma, while secular doesn't have that baggage to deal with. I mean this in general, of course there are some good and bad on both sides.

    • @reasondroid5544
      @reasondroid5544 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sue McQueen - Especially those who were brainwashed in to religion from childhood, they want to remain in it because they have not realized or experienced the alternative. Many wouldn't even dare consider the alternative to their brainwashed religion. Because the big religions have evolved mechanisms of fear for those who think about leaving - 'god's punishment' with illness, trauma, death and eternal damnation in hell etc.
      This reminds me of religious women who say they wear the burka on their head by choice. Well, if most of them tried not wearing a burka for say, 15 years in a free society, we'll see which one they choose after the fact. Sometimes you just have to taste freedom.

      your surroundings has a huge impact on you.
      so.. yeah..that may very well fuck up peoples lives.. well, may very well might not be the right thing to say here.. since there is proof..
      there have been studies done showing the exact result.. so..
      but yeah, i would much rather see people grow up in a world without this burdon upon them.
      but then again, i cannot really imagine how one would even begin to believe in such stupid stuff to begin with..
      i mean, after you're 10 years old, who believes in santa?
      no sane person, thats for sure.. so why believe in god?

    • @reasondroid5544
      @reasondroid5544 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sue McQueen - I had the opposite experience so I can answer your questions. When one grows up in a sub-culture where nearly everyone around you goes to church weekly and DAILY prays, talks about god and reads the 'holy book', as a child this is something you don't question because it becomes the norm and you don't know otherwise. Its done all year, every year. I was taught, every single aspect of my life, is controlled by god and I have to give thanks to god. If I have problems, I have to ask god to help. If problems go away, it was god that took care of them. If problems didn't go away, I didn't have enough faith and need to seek out god even more. A child's brain is like a computer, it will do what you teach it. If I do the wrong thing and I die, I will burn in a fiery lake forever and ever and millions already burning there. This one scared me the most and became a pivoting point in my late 20s why I left religion altogether.
      You have to realize that religions have had thousands of years to grow, so if someone is growing up in one, religion developed mechanisms like fear that keep them from wondering off even if they see things that contradict their beliefs. I mean this is the case in those cultures and families where people take religion seriously, so most mechanisms are used.
      Santa Claus - Adults genuinely believe in god/s, but they only pretend to believe in Santa Claus. Over time, a child becomes sophisticated enough to see those who really believe and those who pretend. For this reason it is much easier to drop the belief in Santa Claus versus a being deeply brainwashed in to religion. Santa Claus pretending or 'worship' is only a couple weeks out of the year but a deeply religious family is not only sincere about their god beliefs, but do it all year long, every year. The belief becomes a central part of their life, not at all the case with Santa Claus, so that is the big difference between the two.
      Having said that. It is all a matter of degree. For example, I know Christians who had parents that believed in god but didn't devote much time to their religion. For those kids, it was much easier to figure out the bullshit earlier, almost like Santa Claus. Yes this happens. But don't fool yourself and think this is the case for those who are deeply indoctrinated into religion from birth. I speak from experience.
      I made a video on my channel "Confession of an X-Christian". I talk about some of my experience and how I got out of it. It took a long time.

      .hi all. what Dudeomfgstfux said is correct. in monetary system {which feeds on problems like poverty) that we have today earth's carrying capacity is estimated 3-4 billions.
      monetary system is a bit like 32-bit windows, has it's limitations ;)
      switch to resource based system (google jacque fresco) and such thing as "capacity" is not important any more.
      ..
      one way to look at people as bill is the fact that in order for bill to have billions of dollars, millions of people have to have nothing. in a way bill contributed to making people poor. in a monetary system you always gonna have poverty no matter what you do.

    • @scoria1755
      @scoria1755 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Incorrect. People don't intercept resources. People produce resources. Poor countries are those that are too incompetent to produce goods & services for foreign bidders. Without foreign bidders, no foreign currency is brought into the incompetent countries. Without foreign currency, no foreign resources can't be purchased by the incompetent counties.

    • @Philumptuous
      @Philumptuous 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ayn Rand There is an apple tree and that tree produces fruit and that fruit can be plucked from the apple tree and eaten freely. Someone comes along and takes the land and instills fear into others who try and challenge their concept of land ownership. They take seeds from apples and turn it into an orchard. They sell the apples at a cost so that the apples are no longer freely available, but requires one to participate in a system to take back what was already theirs in the first place.
      Money isn't real. Land ownership isn't real. Borders aren't real. Nobody owns anything. There is no such thing as a foreigner. No such thing as lesser and greater human beings. It's all imaginary and we collectively create a world of suffering and evil.

    While Jobs was alive he went around buying technology patents that weren't patented but freely available to everyone, got it, then went to the creators and sued them into poverty - Apple destroyed thousands of lives and the way Apple makes their products are so wasteful - Jobs hardly made any personal efforts to give to charity.
