Amazing video, helped a lot in the playstyle development. One thing I could recommend is explaining and giving tips about the basic abilities and how to use them optimally (Although we see a lot of good use of it in the video more explanation on where to hook for example would be great). Apart from that amazing job mate, really good video.

Brand new to the Overwatch scene and I gravitated heavily towards the Tank / DPS roles. Though, every tank felt somewhat similar of desperately needing team support or you were good as dead (we won't talk about roadhog, that absolutely big chungus). But then I decided to finally try Wrecking Ball, very wary of how he'd work, expecting a fast movement and fragile tank but what I found was this amazing mosquito that you just can't seem to quite land a slap on. Though, I definitely struggled to find situations to use my slam and watching how you hook and move completely opened my eyes up to the potential in the ol' Hampter. Thanks!
Highest skill ceiling in the game! Absolutely insane things you can do 👀
I wish this guide talked a lot more about the actual basics of playing ball, such as
-Reloading in Ball form
-Using 3rd-person in Ball form to your advantage
-Cooldown management
-How to time and when to use your adaptive shield
-How to set up/initiate using Piledrive
-Knowing when to disengage
-How to mechanically get the most out of your claw
-Specifically when/where/how to use a minefield
Other than that, I did learn a lot of tricks to playing ball more effectively
Ball has always been my favorite tank, maybe even my favorite overall character. Ive just never actually been great with him but videos like this help alot. Thank you

I have about 13 hours with him so far and was able go figure a lot of this out but this video helped a lot in more specific hook spots and ult usage. I really enjoy using the hook when the point has a center grapple area. Allowing me to spin around it constantly knocking the enemy team away from the point while making it hard to hit me

@@ilikedogs7608 techs do not mean everything, positioning is key. Keep an eye on your cool downs a lot. Grapple js a great escape tool along with your shield. You don't play like traditional tanks so flank a lot, but don't leave your team to die. Health packs will be your main source of healing most of the time so learn the best routes to be able to regain your health and get back in the fight. Using your ult from high ground while dropping down is a great way to spread it out more and maybe secure more kills. Grapple is also a great finisher for low health enemies who are trying to escape. Use your Grapple to the fullest. If you can loop back around around to hit more enemies instead of just canceling, it can secure more damage.
I've been a hamster main for a few seasons and I mostly used to teach myself by watching yeatle vids. But today I decided maybe I should actually try to educate myself about the character lol. I knew a little of these things already, but overall this was super helpful cause tank changed so much in OW 2

I have never played wrecking ball until ow2 since I stopped playing since early 2018. He is the only character I want to learn how to play, he has a pretty high skill ceiling so it’s a bit hard for me, not the best with his movement mechanics. This is really useful and informative, thank you 🙏
Really happy with the state of ball in ow2. I've been playing him a bit lately and found that my play style really fits 5v5, I used to suck in OW1 as ball. But now with less cc and a crap ton of hp it's just so much fun now.
Hammond is one of the most interesting and unique characters I've seen. Used to think he was just another DVA until I got the hang of his pinball flank play style 🙌🏻

Ham has 10x the hrs I have on any other hero, he is super fun and super adaptive for me. Seeing pointers is useful and I hope it helps me grow better as a Ham main.

nice to get a refresher going from OW1 to OW2 bc i do feel Ball plays slightly differently in the sense that you no longer can duel tanks since they are tankier but you are much much more free to harass the backline since there is virtually no hard CC

I did not know you can reload in the ball form.
It reloads after a short time period! Better than manually reloading
It's such a good thing to know because you can strafe like crazy
And can avoid headshots

I just recently picked him up. I’ve played OW1 since august 2019. It’s only now that I appreciate what a good tank and overall character he is.
I main ball and he's prbly the most fun tank there is right now.

I just came back here to watch it for the second time, I realized you didn't use any advanced ball tech in this video (180turn, wall climb etc) but you still carry the game, you're so good at tank roles haha.
I'm the new player, just started playing when ow2 released and when I watched this video I immediately decided to be Hammy main although I'm so bad at aiming lol.
Now I have 13hrs+ ball played time but still in Silver, watching this video again makes me feel wanna practice him more.

ball is SO FUN in OW2, so much better with less cc, more boop, more hp, feels like a god. that dopamine hits so good when your get all 5/5 adaptive shields "impact dampeners at full!" and you're sitting at 1300(!) hp. genuinely very fun to play

The past 20 games i played as wrecking ball and i have to admit i love olaying him and i do sooooo many kills. Its amazing, wrecking ball is really unappreciated. I also find it funny that some peeps ran into my mines because they literally didnt know wtf it was haha 🤣

Nice content. I normally use ball only to disrupt the fight so my team can go. I will try to do flanks, because the way I play I basically never use ball haha.
Yep! Just do it from a flank so you can guarantee getting in there each time!
I was hoping you'd touch more on how hammond reconciles not being a main tank, and how you can support your teammates despite not directly assisting them in fights.
It is a main tank, just not a shield tank. You still want to deal with threats as you would on Reinhardt. Instead of shielding your team from a widowmaker, you dive the widowmaker and make it so she can’t shoot them. Instead of brawling the enemy rein as he tries to push through a choke, you slam them to keep them vulnerable there longer, and split them by fireballing through them
@@Dunmuir don't forget at least in lower ranks ball distracts the enemy like mad. Sometimes the entire team will tilt and fall apart chasing the hamster.

This video is amazing just now getting into Hammond and for me it’s hard to get use to relying on health packs since I don’t know all the locations also how would you focus snipers such as widow with ham?
Glad you enjoyed it! You should jump into a custom game on the unfamiliar maps and go find them 👀 And for playing against widows, you just want to try and sneak up on them when they’re away from their team or not paying attention. Middle of the fight they’ll usually be in a position like this and you can just slam them into primary fire or just try and burn them down with headshots when they’re scope in elsewhere
@@Dunmuir ok thank you bro. I’ve practiced the stuff in the video and have improved a lot so thank you. Im mainly only noticing that the supports or dps are getting picked while I’m in the enemy backline but that just happens.
Lol this gives you the real hammond experience, you can learn the character, basically become invincible, get a double digit kill streak goin, and regardless you're going to lose to a roadhogbecause its roadhog

I've played ball as my main tank for a while. Not nearly as good as you though.
I always played him as a harasser, swing into the backlines, slam, pop shield, try to get a pick, leave screaming for healing. Rinse and repeat.
Definitely agree with that constant pressure you should be doing with such fast movement options you can almost always be in a fight.
How do you deal with characters that counter you decently. E.g. junkrat and his traps, mei gettin slows on you etc.
Watch for trap, mei for nerfed so she isn’t nearly as effective. But, if you are dealing with a counter you just have to try and find where they are and focus them or engage when they can’t do much to you. Also you need to think about whether the value you’ll get on an engage is worth potentially trading your life, and if it isn’t then wait for another opportunity
Everytime I play wrecking ball it feels like I'm playing one of the squishiest characters in the game. I can drive a backline and suddenly their whole team turns on me and bursts me before my hook is off cool down.
I just unlocked the hamster, your control of the ball and timing of abilities is spectacular compared to what I can do with my 20 minutes of gameplay with him. But I MUST play him every time I get the tank slot from now on because...well, isn't it obvious? It's a damn HAMSTER! How can I not play him?

Roll in with the armour boost utility shoot a little bit at medium range (not close range) the roll away then repeat,(no pile driving),,, I call this roll chipping,,, I do great damage and kills this way and win more too,, in around 7 to 10k in damage, ps pildriving get you killed and more exposed, it's best to roll chip the enemy
Ball is a lot of fun his grapple takes some getting used to though

Would you say learning the niche techs and things are necessary to get very good at ball, or are they very situational and not that needed? For example, wall jump, 180 rebound, fireball jump, etc. I'd say I'm currently "decent" at wall jump and 180 rebound lol
Nah they’re not necessary, much more important to focus on engagement timing and other core skills

I've recently discovered ball and he's the most fun Ive had in OW2, but half the games, my team flames me for just picking him. Sometimes even the enemies. Im doing pretty much the same as you describe (not at the same level of course but same concept lol) but it's always "we dont have a tank" or "switch to shield" or "ball is bad"... It's really discouraging tbh :/
The games where people dont flame go amazing, but the moment someone complains, it's almost always a loss...
Just ignore them. Keep getting better and you’ll climb to ranks where you don’t hear this as often

Hmmm... not really especially because ow2 change broke some. But best thing to do is just run out in a custom game with some boys that can’t damage you and try to get a feel for it. Feel what it’s like to hold onto it and go for second hoops. How your momentum works with it. Learn a couple of good boop spots like into eichenwalde 2nd high ground

I was trying to annoy the enemies and make all of them focusing on me by face bobing them, bc as someone came from mmorpg tanks need to take most of the damge and threat, but i think i was wrong
The same idea is there, you just don’t want to actually be taking the damage. Distract, stun the enemies up, but try not to take damage
It'd be super cool if you wouldn't advocate for ball nerfs. They JUST brought him back to where he needs to be to even be viable. Even with the buffs he's received he's still not as powerful as he was in OW1. And if people didn't advocate for nerfs back then, he'd be amazing rn. Grapple break, slam skip, and double boop nerf all lowered his skill ceiling and that's the exact opposite of what they should do with the game. They should encourage high skill ceilings.
Knew most of these but saw some combos I really need to try out since I was already heavily invested in Flanking Ball.
Yep! Just keep in mind the fundamentals and you’ll get a lot of value out of ball

What do you do about sombra? Everytime I went to engage I got hacked and died super fast. But as the only tank it's my job to engage so not sure what to do
You have to play really smart around Sombra that it’s often just not worth playing ball into her. You’d have to try and find her, wait until she appears elsewhere, or just accept you’re probably going to get hacked and killed after you land a slam
@@Dunmuir can also hunt translocator to shut down her escape routes before an engage, takes a lot of map awareness to not get caught out of position tho 🤔

I get you.. but you gotta just focus on yourself. Get really good at the game and your teammates will get better, but regardless you always have to have the mentality to deadlift them
