- This is the hardest hike I've ever done. This is the Gunnison Route at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado
A permit is required to do this hike and only 15 people can do it per day. This is not a marked trail and it is a steep descent down 1800 feet in 1.5 miles. It was so tough getting down because I was basically sliding down the whole way. An 80-foot chain is located 1/3 of the way down.
The scenery at the bottom is absolutely breathtaking and it was worth the trek. I met some other hikers and spent a little over an hour just hanging out enjoying the cooling water. There are campsites here and an outhouse if you want to camp. The sites are really nice but carrying a pack down and up again would be tough.
Carrying a lot of water is essential! I had 3 liters of water. Since this is a wilderness route you have to find your own way and be prepared for self rescue.
I’m so proud of myself for completing this hike. I took two days to recover from the soreness but it was so worth it!

Dang girl! You are so brave. I visited there about 8 years ago and wanted to hike down there. I am way too old to do it now so I enjoyed watching you do it. Thanks.
thank you! it was tough but so glad I did it.. it was so beautiful down there
brave woman
thank you!!
What a beautiful episode, you presented this masterfully! Ambience is brilliant 👏👏
@@ervinslens thank you!
I say that to myself on literally every hard hike lol. And then I plan another.
lol same! It’s how I ended up here
That climb was insane. No way could I have done that without trekking poles, lol. Awesome job, and way to push yourself!
It was so tough!!! whew! trekking pole might have helped.. although it was so steep it was actually hard to be standing up.. was mostly on all fours lol Thank you!
What a great hike, and it brings back a rush of memories.I remember that hike, haha so brutal on the return. I swam in that water, so so cold. Has it really been 20 years? damn. 2002ish. When I went there was no people limit because so few did it. Same log cabin tho. thanks for posting brings back lots of memories. I remember it being fun on the way down lol. i camped a couple of days, totally worth it
@@d36williams wow you swam?!? That water was freezing!!
No sign of the infamous Black Canyon poison ivy?
Nope didn’t see any
If you think the hiking is bad, which it is, try the rock climbing. Death defying.
Yea I wouldn’t make it onto the rocks lol
